Chapter 26: Knock Knock
Chapter 26: Knock Knock
New information was coming in like small waves with one being right after the other. These waves started to add up and come crashing down onto me.
I knew almost nothing about life was easy, but there's an extent to which everyone can handle.
My extent is about to be reached, the amount of pressure and anxiety I'm feeling keeps going up with time.
"Be honest with me, even if I did attain solid intel what would that change for the beginning of the war?" I asked my instructor who was currently driving us to the slums.
"Now that's a great question, the problem is every higher up has a different opinion about this. Since you can't talk to them, I will tell you my own which I believe is the most likely to happen. " The man took his eyes off the road and looked dead into my own eyes.
The temperature in the car dropped and my instructors seemingly cold voiced out his harsh reality.
"It will change nothing; millions of humans and our own people are still going to die. The Elves military force may still be too much for us to handle alone. Even if we knew intel about them with how they fight and how strong their younger generation is, that still doesn't change the fact that they are still superior to us.
This is the reason they are bold enough to send agents here that are capable of being caught by us. We can't do shit to them; they hold all the cards in this game. This is why I think all of you should focus on mending our relationships, I know the hate is deep for both sides, but this is our only option to save lives. "

I thought about what the man said and he wasn't wrong at all. The only real way to come out a winner from this was amending relationships.
The hate between both races though is quite deep and very extreme. After all, in the last war between us it was normal to see large unarmed groups being executed.
Both humans and Elves did this to one another, this just showed how much both sides despised one another.
Yet here we are now with the younger generation attending the same school, just how the hell do they expect us to change anything?
"Do we have anyone capable of such things though? This goes beyond the scope of being diplomatic, we need someone capable of quite literally talking their way out of a whole war."
"I believe we do; you see the leader of this country has son a year older than you and he is said to be quite the capable kid. As you know his father is not only one of the strongest humans alive, but one of the best diplomatic speakers as well. There are many more kids like this who will be more focused on the diplomatic side of things in school."
Now this was great news to my ears. The fact that I wasn't alone in this mission calmed me down. Even though we are trying to attain different things, I was still glad we are aiming for the same goal.
Although most of my worries were still there, the amount of stressed has gone further away from my breaking point.
I decided to switch gears and solely focus on my mission now, there was no need for things outside of my control to affect me now.
"How long do I have to complete this mission? It really shouldn't be that hard to attain evidence on these guys I assume."
"You're correct, basically all you need is to record both leaders doing something illegal and we will handle the rest. The main objective for this mission is for you to learn simple communication skills as well as stealth. For the time frame you will have two days, if you can't accomplish the mission we simply move on to the next."
"I see, so this earpiece is really quite something. Is there anything I should look out for?"
"Yes, it is so don't lose or break it or so help me I will tear you a new one. Also you'll probably see some fucked up shit, so learn to control your emotions when seeing the cruel things these groups do."
"How bad are we talking?"
"Hmmmm the worst I've heard of was them drugging a man and doing some crazy things to him. I don't know how common this is, but it'll make great experience for you overall."
"Am I really expected to sit there and watch this happen? I get that this is for training, but boundaries need to be drawn." My anger had started to pick up and sadly I let it be known through my tone of voice.
My instructor didn't say a word and honestly, he didn't have to. I knew I had to change my ways, but must we really go so far for it?
Then the bigger question was what's the worth of the accomplishment.
'Whatever, just shut up and do what you're told Azrail. If after everything you still don't see the point of it, then don't listen to them. It's not like anyone on this planet knows the absolute correct answer to everything. Do what is best for you.' I told myself, the only person who has been alongside me is only me.
No one knows me better than my own self. If I start going against the person I really am, then I have no identity.
I'm not going to bend my ways for anyone, including my entire race. If anyone tries to force me to do something again then they are my enemy.
I don't have pride as a human or a Volestian for that matter. The only pride I have is my own self and nothing more than that.
If there were a day to come where I had the power to split this planet in half, I would be tempted to do it. When I was reading the history that's documented all it seemed to be was about war.
Every major marking point in human history was through a damn war. I couldn't even fathom how many lives were lost on this shithole of a planet.
If you want to fucking fight so badly, go do it in the damn afterlife.
There isn't a day that goes by when someone questions when's the next war going to happen.
The Elves were already knocking on humanities front door, showing the next tsunami of death was on its way.
