Chapter 226 Redundant Threat

•••

Andor was only just getting back to his right senses after he had been slammed by the end of the Orc's Ax handle when a dark shadow came over him from above and he looked up to catch sight of the Orc that had leaped to cleave him in two.

The Fighter was almost sure the attack would hit him when a hand grabbed the back of the Leather armor he had on and he was pulled out of the way just in time.

*BAM!*

With the ground soft with vegetation as it was, the enemy's attack resulted in a large divot but Andor paid no attention to that. He turned around to see who had saved him; It was Eloise.

Eloise released the back of Andor's armor and her sword was already unsheathed in her other hand.

"Are you alright?" She asked as the Orc pulled its weapon off the ground and glared at her with his large nose flaring in anger.

"I'm fine," Andor answered.

"Good," Eloise said and clenched her free hand to summon his Spear from where the Orc had discarded it after pulling it out of its body.

She handed it to Andor who grabbed it immediately and then she was gone. One second she was still a foot away from Andor and the next, she was swinging at the Orc whose height surpassed hers by two feet and had more than enough Width to accommodate two of hers.

The Orc reacted quickly and parried Eloise's sword swing but instead of the force of the weapon collision forcing Eloise to spin out, she controlled herself and was swinging her sword at the enemy's side in her next attack.n/ô/vel/b//in dot c//om

Again, the Orc intercepted the attack but this time, it did so with the handle of its Ax. Eloise was unbothered and with her lips pursed in the slightest bit of a show of effort, she clenched her free hand and Mana charged to be unleashed in a focused beam that sent the Orc flying at least three feet away.

The Creature used its large center of gravity to orient itself so it landed on its feet but by then, Eloise was no longer where she had been just a second ago.

"Ah!" The Orc yelled out with a bit of surprise.

The blade of a sword stabbed into its side and flared with an energy that went a bit beyond Mana. The sword blade seared through the creature's insides as Eloise dragged the sword until she had cut a horizontal line across the Orc's midsection.

Letting out an angry growl, the Orc made a swipe with its large arm but Eloise dodged and kicked off the ground to swing her sword in a vertical arc that split the Orc's head in two before it could even react to intercept or dodge her attack.

*Squelch!*

The two halves of the Orc's head let out a sickening sound as they pulled apart to allow the brain matter spill out and then the Orc's knees hit the ground before the rest of its large body followed after.

Eloise was already looking away from it before the final fall.

There were just too many Orcs on the scene. Every Knight and Mercenary was now engaged in battle with some —like Boyle and Gareth— fending off more than one of the large things. The Clerics were standing aside barely being protected by Slaves and Mercenaries who could afford to protect them.

All in all, successfully killing one Orc meant very little to the Mage knight when there were still so many to eliminate. Speaking of which;

"Andor look out!" She yelled out suddenly.

Eloise had just swung her sword to rid it of the blood and grime of her recent kill when she found Andor standing still in place having just watched her fight.

Andor was in awe of the efficiency and because of it, for the second time that day, he was about to be split in two.

But then, whether because of Eloise's call or maybe he had sensed the attack coming as well, he leaned to the side so the Orc's Ax attack swung through empty air.

With his eyes now narrowed, Andor slammed the edge of his Shield into the joint on the Orc's arm.

"Argh—!" It groaned in pain but it was quickly stifled by Andor who stabbed his Spear into the slightly open mouth.

"Ah!" Andor yelled right after the tip of his Spearhead had stabbed into the back of the Orc's head. He let his Mana Surge and charged it into the Spear to unleash a blast that ripped the back of the enemy's head open. Killing it.

"Well done," Eloise said just as the body of the Orc's body hit the ground but she was already dashing forward to parry the attack of another Orc that had picked Andor as its target.

"Thanks," Andor said seriously with a sharp nod. Eloise's parry caused the Orc's arm to spin out which created an opening that Andor took advantage of by stabbing his Spear into its side and pulling his weapon down to open a long gash.

Blood spilled out and some innards seemed close to making their exit but even then, against the pain it was feeling, the Orc managed to slam its Ax down at Andor who raised his Shield in time to intercept the attack.

*BANG!* Your journey continues at empire

The force of the attack forced Andor to one knee so hard that he was sure it bruised but before the Orc could attack him again, Eloise had delivered a final strike into its midsection, twisted her sword, and swung upward until she opened a large gash out of which its large innards spilled out.

Andor stood to his feet and shook off the earlier impact. He felt great and together he and Eloise found another target. There were so many Orcs that selection was easy. In fact, the choice would have been made for them if they dawdled even for a second.

Their selected target was one of the Orcs who were engaged in battle against the Slaves and Mercenaries standing close and trying to protect the Clerics.

One Cleric had been pulled away from the others. The slave that had fought to defend her lay on the ground with a large gash against the side of his head and she took slow steps back while she tried to chant.

"Stop that," the Orc said in a deep rumbling voice, "More of that witchery and I'll kill you faster."

It was a bit of a redundant threat since death would come anyway but it seemed to have worked on the Cleric who stopped chanting and pressed her lips together.

"Good," the Orc said, "Now—"

Those words were not completed.

Its slightly tipped ears twitched as it sensed a shuffle, a disturbance in the air that signaled an approach.

With a yell that almost sounded like a roar, it made a wide swing of its Ax that would have caught the approaching attacker had they not quickly leaned back as hard and as low as they possibly could.

Eloise watched the Ax swing above her but even after it had swung past, she didn't stand up straight. She went even lower and swung her sword across the back of the Orc's large muscled leg. Drawing blood and forcing its knees to buckle.

As it sniffed with rage, the Orc realized there had been two approachers;

One was the Spear-wielding, Shield-bearing Fighter now stood in front of the Cleric it had been stalking and the other was the Knight whose sword was splattered with its blood.
