A Story of Evil

Chapter 166: The Plan

Chapter 166: The Plan

While Sol and his allies celebrated their victory, the leader of the monsters had an irritated look on her face. Her expression was justified because, she has lost thrice against Sol and Cain. But she didn't hastily move in order to get her revenge. This is all thanks to Charon who gave her a sensible advice, preventing her from marching all out as a plan was developed.

This was both easy and, effective at the same time. The girl has actually been using surveillance on the humans that entered her forest. She has done this using night crawlers. Creatures which only live through the darkness of the night. They have no definite shape but, has circular yellow glows on the location of their eyes and, have the distinctive feature of always latching on to a shadow in order to move.

These are the same creatures which Nathan saw during his night patrol before falling asleep. Creatures which the summoner also controlled and, even transferred her consciousness to in order to monitor the enemies.

With the night crawlers being as they are, they could also see if something is a shadow or not. This is how the girl was able to spot the base of the humans and, how she could even see inside it. The same method was being used that night.

"These insignificant specs are still on the same location Charon." The girl said, opening her eyes as her lips curved to a smile.

"Should I call in all the forces then your highness?"

"Yes. Get all of our air type units and their riders as well. Nothing would be left of those humans when I'm through with them."

What Charon devised was an easy strategy. The flying monsters had other lightweight monsters riding them. Through this, they would be able to erase any sound that could be made by moving on the ground and, with the night being deep, there was no way for the humans to recognize the creatures flying above the thicket of trees.

But that was not all. The monsters riding on the back of the air type units were all explosive monkeys. Creatures which have been instructed to bombard the location of the humans with bombs. After this, if there was still a chance that the humans were alive, then the same units would self destruct.

These monsters sped through the night sky; bringing all of the bombs with them. With an intention to end everything right then and there.

"How long will it take for our units to reach their destination?" The girl asked Charon.

"Half an hour's worth of time your highness. They'd surely be sound asleep when we attack them." The butler replied.

"Yes and, if that's the case then we'll surely win."

The two were already celebrating their victory even before it was secured. They had wide smiles on their faces and, thought of nothing but the death of the humans who dared step inside the forest. Just like the scene from a movie, the girl closed her eyes and continued watching through the eyes of one of her summons. Eagerly awaiting the time when they collapse on the enemies which, wasn't that far from that moment.

Within the vast horizon, the monsters flapped their wings. There was no distraction nor any lag in their movement which simply continued increasing in speed. The girl felt the wind hitting the face of the monkey she possessed. She felt the sound of this same winds as it passed by the monster's ears, exciting her for what was to come as she decided to take full control of the creature.

She reached out for the pouch and, placed some of the pebbles on her hands enchanting them all. Turning them into explosives ready to be fired. There was just a few more minutes left and, she wasn't one to hold down her excitement. She stood on the winged monster and began screaming for joy. All the other monkeys did the same; knowing that their master was the one possessing the creature they started to stand up and prepare their attacks.

There was less than a minute left before they collapsed on their enemies at that point. The base of the humans was close and, the girl switched back to using the shadow crawlers in order to confirm that they were still there.

She saw the shadow still placed where it was and, didn't bother looking in anymore. With this, she switched back to the monkey. Just in time for the final seconds before the attack.

She began the timer on each bomb and, the birds ridden by the monkeys finally slowed down. Assuring that they would accurately hit their mark. And, with this, the bombs were finally released.

One by one the explosions came. There was no resistance nor any action made by the humans. The attack simply continued as a one sided bombardment. With the girl being more than thrilled in the fact that the plan was going as planned. Except it wasn't.

Unknown objects suddenly shot up to the middle of the monsters and, before any of them could respond, it exploded into a splash of green flames. This wasn't a one time attack. The counter explosions rose in the sky like fireworks and, as if this wasn't enough, a blue flamed phoenix and a hurricane of blue flamers rose from the ground up. Burning all the monsters and the trees nearby.

One by one the monkeys that died exploded in the air and, caught in the damage are the birds they rode on. More monkeys died due to not being able to release the bombs on time. The girl tried moving past the range of the damage but, the bird ridden by her monkey was also caught in the flames. This fire quickly covered the whole of the bird and the monkey. Forcing the girl to finally come back to her main body.

"AHHHH!"

"What happened your highness?" Charon immediately came to the aid of his lord who grabbed on to him.

"Get more of our troops out there. Get them all out there!"

"Why? What happened?"

"Those humans, they were somehow prepared for our attack Charon!"

"What?" None of what the girl said made sense to the butler. There was no way a human could be prepared all of the time. Especially on such short notice and, without any background of the enemy being faced.

But reality proved to be inconsiderate of their mindset. Sol was above any normal human and, above what could be predicted. They never had the upper hand in the fight. From the moment they planned their assault, Sol already had countermeasures ready to be played.

"Just go and do it!" The girl shouted, snapping Charon back to reality.

"Understood your highness." Was all that the butter could say as he rushed to inform all of the monsters.

The girl switched back to the nearest monster within the location. But all she could see were more flames that glowed in the middle of the night.

"Those bastards. Are they starting a forest fire? What's going on here?"

The girl continued switching from one monster to the next. Trying to find the summoned monster which could give her the best view of things. Through a direwolves, then to a chameleon, then to another bird and, then to a frog. She searched for where the enemies were, but, in the blazing inferno, there was no way for her to keep her focus. She needed to switch each and every time as the monsters she used each got burnt by the increasing forest flames.

It was clear what was happening. That is why she was infuriated even so.

It was plain and simple. She didn't catch the enemies by surprise.

All along, she was playing within the enemies hands.
