After Losing My Memory, My Husband Begged Me to Love Him Again

Chapter 5

Lu Yu's movements halted, and his brows furrowed tightly. After a while, he learned that Gu Wan had already completed her discharge in the afternoon and left.

Instinctively, Lu Yu took out his phone and opened the chat box with Gu Wan. As expected, it was empty and devoid of any messages.

Lu Yu remained silent.

The nurse standing nearby inexplicably sensed a hint of oppression.

Luckily, Lu Yu soon left, causing the nurse to pat her chest in relief. She resumed her work promptly, no longer paying it any mind.

As the car traveled on the road, Lu Yu couldn't help but space out and feel increasingly irritated. He had worked tirelessly, burning the midnight oil to finish his tasks, only to rush to the hospital to see her at the earliest opportunity. Yet, she didn't even greet him and silently ran back home. How could this not make Lu Yu angry?

Meanwhile...

Unaware that her dear husband had missed her and was now enraged, Gu Wan personally watched the butler and others put away the large wedding photos in the utility room. Finally, she let out a sigh of relief, feeling that the space had become much more comfortable.

No matter how attractive a person is, having their photos on display all day long becomes tiresome and even annoying. Moreover, if guests were to come, it would appear ostentatious and narcissistic. Even Gu Wan found it embarrassing, no wonder Lu Yu didn't like it.

After Gu Wan completely calmed down, she suddenly remembered something. She hadn't heard clearly what the butler said after handling the photos, so she hurriedly asked, "By the way, where's Beibei? Why haven't I seen Beibei?"

Beibei was a stray dog that Gu Wan had picked up before. It was already eleven years old, and besides Qiannian, it was the most important family member to Gu Wan. She believed that even if she was being absent-minded, she wouldn't neglect Beibei.

However, when she returned home today, Beibei didn't come out to greet her immediately, giving Gu Wan an uneasy feeling. Her heart tightened, and she couldn't help but worry that something had happened to Beibei during the days she was away.

But soon, the butler provided a negative answer.

The butler had just received a message saying that Mr. Lu would be coming home for dinner tonight. However, before he could finish his sentence, Gu Wan impatiently interrupted him.

It seemed as though she hadn't heard what he said just now. After a moment of thought, the butler decided it was better to address her question first.

Upon learning that Beibei had only been taken to a nearby pet hospital for a check-up, Gu Wan breathed a sigh of relief. She couldn't help but find it amusing that she had been overthinking things a moment ago.

It was just a small dog, and so many people were looking after it. What could possibly go wrong? But she couldn't help but worry.

The butler attempted to continue the previous topic but was interrupted again when she asked, "Which pet hospital is it, and is it far from here?"

Seeing that his wife seemed determined to go there, feeling uneasy, the butler said, "They will send Beibei back at half-past six. You don't have to..."

"But I can't wait even a minute." Gu Wan hadn't cared about it during her days at the hospital, but now that she was back, she couldn't wait a single moment. She just wanted to see Beibei with her own eyes as soon as possible.

Helpless, the butler reluctantly provided the address.

"Shall I have the nanny pick him up instead?" The butler attempted a final struggle.

However, at that moment, Gu Wan had already left with her cellphone in hand.

She hadn't noticed when she arrived, but as she walked out, Gu Wan realized that the place was unusually large. Upon careful observation of the signs, she discovered that it seemed to encompass even the golf course nearby.

Fortunately, the community had its own transportation. After about twenty minutes, Gu Wan finally found the location of the pet hospital. However, while she was surveying her surroundings, she failed to notice a black car driving past her.

Lu Yu suddenly felt a familiar figure flash before his eyes. Before he could react, the words had already left his mouth, "Stop."

The driver promptly hit the brakes.

A few minutes later, Lu Yu saw Gu Wan seemingly talking to someone inside, and in no time, she emerged from the building cradling a clean and tidy little dog.

Seeing Beibei, who appeared unchanged and still healthy, Gu Wan felt very happy.

As if sensing her joy, Beibei, the petite countryside dog about the size of a Pekingese, wagged its tail madly and extended its tongue to lick Gu Wan's cheeks, chin, and neck.

If it were in the past, it would have been fine, but now Gu Wan's right hand was fractured and wrapped in a cast. With only one functioning arm, she couldn't withstand the enthusiasm of the little dog. She could only repeatedly try to stop Beibei, attempting to calm it down.

Just as they were happily playing together, suddenly the car door beside them opened.

Gu Wan was startled, thinking she had encountered a bad person. However, she soon realized that Beibei remained in a relaxed state, and as she carefully looked inside, she saw a somewhat familiar person sitting in the shadows.

Gu Wan was somewhat surprised. "Why did you come back?"

Lu Yu almost burst out laughing. This was his home, so why couldn't he come back?

But Lu Yu wasn't someone who easily expressed his anger. He simply asked, "Why did you leave the hospital early?"

Only then did Gu Wan react. He must have come back from the hospital, and if he came back from the hospital, then that meant...

Gu Wan's first reaction was to apologize. "I'm sorry, I thought you wouldn't come back anytime soon."

Any discerning person could tell that the man before them was extraordinarily busy, and considering that Gu Wan truly didn't know how to communicate with him, she instinctively wanted to delay a little longer. At the very least, she wanted to be mentally prepared before discussing it. She didn't expect him to arrive so coincidentally; she thought she still had time until tomorrow.

The taste of missing an opportunity wasn't pleasant, and coupled with the fact that she was indeed at fault in this matter, Gu Wan's expression became even more sincere. There was no hint of evasion or an attempt to shirk responsibility.

Unexpectedly, when he saw her like this, Lu Yu didn't feel happy. Instead, his expression became solemn.

Just as Gu Wan was feeling confused, he spoke slowly, asking, "So, are you once again complaining that I haven't been accompanying you?" His expression revealed neither joy nor anger.

This made Gu Wan once again doubt how unreasonable she had been before. Just look at how this man in front of her has developed a reflex.

"Of course not." The current Gu Wan spoke slowly and earnestly, "Regardless, one's own health and work are the most important. You haven't been idle, so why should I blame you?"

Lu Yu tried to find any trace of lying on her face, but unfortunately, there was none, not even the slightest bit.

She really thought this way.

Then Gu Wan saw that the man's complexion seemed to worsen.

Gu Wan carefully recalled and didn't think there was anything wrong with her answer. Could it be that she didn't appear sincere enough? That shouldn't be the case.

Gu Wan thought for a moment and decided to add two more sentences, "Rest assured, if it were me, I would also..."

"Shut up!" However, before Gu Wan could finish her words, Lu Yu interrupted her.

The man glanced at her and coldly said, "Get in the car."

Gu Wan took a deep breath and decided to forgive him this time, considering her own fault in the matter.

Just as Gu Wan was about to sit down while holding Beibei, she unintentionally glanced down and looked around. She found that the interior of the car was extremely tidy and clean. Then she looked at Lu Yu, who was meticulous, with every shirt button done up to the top, and noticed a few dog hairs scattered on her own clothes.

You see, black suits are the most prone to collecting hair. Just because she didn't mind didn't mean others wouldn't mind, especially considering how expensive his outfit looked. With these thoughts in mind, Gu Wan retracted the leg she had just extended.

"It's okay, I'll take the community car."

Saying this, Gu Wan pointed to the vehicle approaching not far away.

In the end, all Lu Yu saw was her retreating figure, embracing the dog hurriedly.

Even though there was a partition in between, the driver still sensed the stifling suffocation inside the car.
