Apocalypse: The Hotel She Runs Is the Only Paradise

Chapter 12: The Biggest Mistake in Life

Chapter 12

She had already emphasized to Lin Ru that entering other people's rooms was forbidden, and the hotel rules were posted next to the front desk.

If Lin Ru still chose to violate the rules, she couldn't be blamed for the consequences.

For breakfast, she made three simple sandwiches with toast and fried eggs, then ate a banana and drank a carton of milk with her two kids.

Cola and Hamburger were very content.

Since they got the hotel, they felt like they were living in paradise every day.

Although at night, they would occasionally still dream about their previous terrifying life of struggling to survive in the post-apocalyptic world, dreaming of horrifying zombies.

But as soon as they woke up and saw their sister beside them, they would feel at ease.

After breakfast, Gu Wanyin prepared to set out for Sunshine Base.

She had the two kids sit at the front desk, instructing them to check in any guests that arrived.

The kids had watched her check in guests several times before, so they knew what to do.

She wasn't worried about anyone causing trouble, as the system wouldn't allow it.

Gu Wanyin chose a casual outfit from the wardrobe and changed into comfortable walking shoes.

She brought Cola and Hamburger to the lobby, where she saw the Fu brothers, Sishu and Siheng, wolfing down bread and milk.

Seeing her come out, Fu Sishu seemed about to say something, but Fu Siheng beat him to it: "Good morning, hotel owner."

"Good morning," Gu Wanyin smiled.

"Hotel owner, my wife last night..." Fu Sishu started, then felt awkward and couldn't continue.

Gu Wanyin said coolly, "I already know. Ms. Lin violated the rules, and there's nothing I can do. Moreover, she's been blacklisted from the hotel. Even if you find her, it won't make any difference."

The hotel would not allow Lin Ru to stay again.

Fu Sishu's already pale face turned even whiter. After a moment, he gave a bitter smile and said, "As long as she's still alive... getting her back to the base would be good too."

He regretted more and more not persuading Lin Ru to follow the hotel's rules properly.

Gu Wanyin didn't say anything more to them. She packed two pieces of bread and a bottle of orange juice in her backpack for lunch, reminded Cola and Hamburger to watch the hotel carefully, and then set off.

With the system's map imprinted in her mind, she easily reached the vicinity of Sunshine Base.

Sunshine Base allowed anyone to enter, so there were no guards at the entrance.

There was only a middle-aged man in his forties sitting on a rickety chair, probably watching for any approaching zombies.

As Gu Wanyin passed by him, she noticed his face full of suspicion and surprise.

It was probably because her clothes and backpack were so clean, which was uncommon in this post-apocalyptic world, especially for a lone girl.

Gu Wanyin walked into Sunshine Base and saw makeshift shelters everywhere. Inside the shelters were men and women, mostly young and middle-aged, with fewer elderly and children.

Some people were able to spread blankets on the ground to sit on.

Others could only use dry grass as bedding, wearily nibbling on compressed biscuits.

Her presence as a clean, well-dressed girl walking alone through the base immediately drew attention.

"Who's that girl? Her clothes are so clean, like they're brand new."

"Don't know, never seen her before. Must be new to the base."

"Look at her, she's thin but has a rosy complexion and looks healthy."

"She's even got a backpack, and it's clean too! Looks like it's got something inside... could it be food?"

"Food?"

At the mention of food, everyone's eyes seemed to light up.

In this world of scarcity, even a few packs of compressed biscuits could sometimes trigger a scramble!

There were a few ability users in Sunshine Base maintaining order, but fights and brawls over resources still broke out from time to time!

And now, a lone girl, if she really had food in her backpack...

Some people were already scheming, while others worried for the girl's safety.

Gu Wanyin paid no attention to the stares. As she looked at the people in the base, she felt uneasy.

In this post-apocalyptic world, the vast majority of people were struggling, especially ordinary people and low-level ability users. Every day they lived in fear, not knowing if they would die from hunger, thirst, or zombie bites.

But sympathy aside, there was nothing she could do.

The system had told her before that outside the hotel, she could promote the hotel, but she couldn't interfere with any person or event, nor could she give supplies to others.

Of course, unless someone actively tried to harm her, in which case, they would be asking for death.

She could understand this, after all, the magical hotel was already a big cheat code.

If she could do whatever she wanted outside the hotel, wouldn't that be too overpowered?

Collecting herself, she began to look around, hoping to find someone suitable to be a hotel staff member.

However, at that moment, two burly men blocked her path.

"Well, little girl, all alone?" One of the men leered at her. "You don't look like you've been starving or freezing. What's in that bag of yours? Is it food?"

Many people turned to look their way, their eyes filled with curiosity and greed.

"What's it to you?" Gu Wanyin sneered. "Looking at your build, you don't seem to have gone hungry either. I bet you've robbed quite a few people of their supplies, haven't you?"

"Hahaha..." The man laughed loudly. "Smart girl! Be sensible and hand over that backpack, and you'll suffer less! Otherwise, believe me, I'll... hehe..."

"Hehe, bro, let me have her first this time!"

Hearing their words, Gu Wanyin felt utterly disgusted.

The post-apocalyptic world was hard enough already, and yet there were still such beasts making it even more difficult!

They were tall and strong, and no one could do anything about them...

But today, they chose to provoke her... this would be the biggest mistake of their lives.

"Did you hear me? Hand over the backpack now!"

"Get lost," Gu Wanyin said coldly.

The two men laughed as if they had just heard the funniest joke.

"You little girl, living in a dream world? Let me tell you, I'm a level three ability user! No one here has a higher ability level than me! You dare talk back to me? Looks like I need to teach you a lesson first!"

Just then, suddenly, a figure stepped in front of Gu Wanyin.

"You're not allowed to bully people!"
