Basketball System: Rebound of the Underdog

Chapter 106 Dodge the Ball

"This is your first practicum of the year," Miss Cherry, their P.E. teacher, excitedly exclaimed as the students gathered in the field.

They were staying on the side since their football team was currently training for their first game of the year on Friday.

It was amazing how the school granted them excused absences days before their game when they don't even do so for the rest of the sports teams—or at least not for the basketball team.

Shizi High's football team, also known as the Shizi Snakes, was undoubtedly the most prized possession of Shizi High.

Even the cheerleading team supported them the most, which was why the cheerleading team were also practicing near them during class hours.

"At least there's one thing to look forward to during this class," Bao said, looking at the cheerleading team with bright eyes.

"Agreed," Zeren said, surprising Kai that he was now sitting next to them.

Kai raised both eyebrows in surprise.

"What are you doing here?"

Zeren frowned. "Why? Can't I sit here with a bunch of losers as community service?"

Kai scoffed and shook his head. "I guess that automatically makes you a loser then."

Zeren shook his head. "Whatever! I didn't want to be with the other guys since they said I make them look like shrimp. You two already look like shrimps, so there's no problem with me staying with you, right?"

"It's alright with me!" Bao said, happy to make a new friend.

"Do whatever you want," Kai said, making Zeren beam.

"Students, please turn your attention to the front," Miss Cherry said.

They all stopped looking at the football team and the cheerleading team and focused their attention on their teacher.

"As I was saying," she said. "This is your first practicum of the year. You will now be applying what you've learned during our lectures. This is a graded activity, but even then, don't forget to have fun."

"What we're going to be doing today is one of the simplest games I've taught—dodgeball!"

"Let's go!"

"I've always wanted to play this!"

"Isn't this the game that foreigners usually play?"

"Let's throw balls at each other."

"You shall decide your teams," Miss Cherry said.

"Who do you want to be the team captain?" she asked.

"Zeren!"

"Zeren should be the team captain!"

"Zeren is the most athletic in the class!"

Zeren proudly smirked as his name was called.

He stood from his seat and clicked his tongue, seemingly shy about the situation. However, deep inside, he was definitely enjoying the attention.

"Oh, stop it," he bashfully said.

Kai shook his head since he could see right through him.

"Who's the other one, then?" Miss Cherry asked.

The others started pushing their friends to the front, but none of them seemed to want to play against Zeren.

Miss Cherry noticed this and looked around for a suitable opponent. Then, when her eyes landed on Kai, she nodded in approval.

This student had quite a great physique!

"How about you, then?" she asked, pointing at Kai.

The others became silent as they all turned to Kai.

Bao cheered for his friend. "Let's go!" Bao exclaimed in support for Kai.

Kai had never been chosen as the captain before, so he decided to take up the challenge.

He stood and walked to where Zeren was standing.

"Let's choose teams, then," Miss Cherry said, excited to watch the upcoming game.

"There are twenty boys in this class, so you get to pick ten each. Ladies, you shall watch them first, then we'll proceed with your game after."

The girls in the class nodded in agreement, also excited to watch the boys' game.

"Why don't we start with Kai?" she said.

Zeren clicked his tongue. He wanted to go first and pick Rambo, the biggest guy in their class! He was sure that Kai was going to pick him without a doubt.

Kai looked around the class to find suitable teammates. However, it seemed like the others were deliberately avoiding his eyes. Rambo, undoubtedly the heaviest guy in their class, was even playing with the blades of grass just to avoid his gaze.

Kai sighed and shook his head. It wasn't like he was going to pick him anyway.

"Bao," Kai said, maintaining his loyalty to his friend.

Bao's eyebrows raised in surprise while the others were also perplexed. Truth be told, this was the first time Bao had been called first during P.E. class!

"So, this is what it feels like," Bao said, excitedly standing next to Kai.

Zeren sighed in relief and called Rambo's name, making the big guy jump in happiness.

"That's what I'm talking about, baby!" Rambo exclaimed.

One by one, Kai and Zeren started picking their teammates. However, Zeren frowned as Kai called another lanky guy with very thick glasses to his team.

"Why is he only calling losers?" one of the girls asked.

The guy was surprised, but he excitedly joined their team.

Kai looked at his teammates and nodded in acknowledgment. This was the exact team that he had wanted—a team that comprised the people who were used to getting picked last.

As someone who was in their shoes before, Kai wanted to make them feel that they were worthy of being chosen...and if they lost, at least it was still a great experience for everyone.

Kai didn't mind winning, though. There were way too many cocky bastards in Zeren's team.

Now, it was down to the last two male students. They already felt quite bitter since they were used to getting called earlier. However, they were left at the very last! The guys who weren't good at physical activities were even called before them.

The two of them prayed that Zeren would choose them; however, there could only be one who could join Zeren's team. So, Yesu had no choice but to join Kai's team.

Miss Cherry looked at the teams and found that Zeren's team overwhelmed Kai's team by a huge margin. She thought it was going to be a fairly equal game, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

"Now that the teams are complete," Miss Cherry started off.

"Let's get started!"
