Chapter 3
C3 – Humiliation!
In the future, whenever he read other novels, as soon as he grasped their essence, he would grow stronger without cease.
“This is nowhere near enough. My abilities are too weak, but I’m certain I can become much more formidable. Then, Yuner won’t have to endure hardship and humiliation by my side.”
With this thought, Pei Yu felt a spark of hope ignite within him. And with that, he made his way slowly toward his house.
Come lunchtime, Pei Yu decided to head back to get ready for a visit to the hospital to see his sister.
Upon entering the Ke family mansion, he was greeted by the sight of two women and a man seated in the living room.
His stern in-laws and the icy Ke Lianxi were there, all eyes on him as he walked in.
In the dining room, Mrs. Qian was busy preparing the meal.
Pei Yu sensed their hostility—it was the eerie quiet before a storm, yet he was unafraid.

“Let’s all start with lunch.”
Following Ke Lianxi’s cue, Fei Ning and Ke Huayuan were the first to stand, casting a glance at Pei Yu before heading into the dining room.
Ke Lianxi gave Pei Yu a detached look before turning to enter the dining room herself.
Feeling a bit hungry, Pei Yu held his tongue and took a seat in a corner of the dining hall.
No sooner had he lifted his chopsticks than Fei Ning challenged him, “You still know how to come back? What happened to that swagger of yours?”
“Pei Yu, if you’re not working these days, how will you manage your living expenses? Are you planning to leech off the Ke family’s wealth?” Ke Huayuan sighed in Pei Yu’s direction.
“As a man, you shouldn’t depend on the Ke family. You’ve been with us for years, yet you haven’t given me a grandchild. Even our dogs serve a purpose—they guard the house. What’s the point in supporting you?”
Ke Huayuan’s words were harsh and cutting.
Pei Yu felt a surge of irritation.
They were still harping on about grandchildren?
During his three years with the Ke family, he hadn’t even held Ke Lianxi’s hand, much less shared a room with her. He had considered it, but Ke Lianxi had never afforded him the opportunity.
Pei Yu remained silent, prompting Fei Ning to snap, “You’re utterly useless!”
Mrs. Qian couldn’t stand to hear any more, shaking her head repeatedly.
Poor Pei Yu. Being a son-in-law was no easy task.
Ke Lianxi’s gaze was icy as she addressed Pei Yu, “How are you?”
Touched by Ke Lianxi’s words, Pei Yu felt a glimmer of warmth. Despite her cold demeanor, they were still married, and she showed a hint of concern for him.
“I’m fine,” Pei Yu responded hastily.
“I was asking about your situation at school, not your injuries. Spare me the nonsense.”
Ke Lianxi chastised Pei Yu just as he insisted he was fine.
She had no interest in his physical well-being; her concern was with his professional responsibilities at school.
“You’ve been skipping work for days. Are you planning to live off my daughter’s money? Remember, we’ve already spent over half a million on your sister’s medical bills. If you prove to be of no further use, you might as well pack your bags and leave the Ke household!”
Fei Ning’s finger was so close to Pei Yu’s face it nearly touched his nose.
