Chapter 6
C6 – Emergency!
Inside a modest two-bedroom apartment, Pei Yu was on the phone, sitting across from Pei Yuner.
“Keep a close eye on your sister. She’s gone missing again. I’m tired of looking for her. And you still owe this month’s medical fees.”
“Dr. Bian, Pei Yuner is with me. I’ll bring her back right away, and I’ll come by to pay the fees shortly.”
After hanging up, Pei Yu feigned anger and tapped Pei Yuner on the forehead.
“Why did you wander off again? You know you’re not supposed to leave without the doctor’s permission, right?”
“I know, I just missed you. I heard you got into a fight a few days ago,” Pei Yuner said with a pout, her concern for Pei Yu evident.
“Brother, are you okay?”
“I’m fine, don’t worry. I took care of Ke Shuyi.”
“That’s a relief.” Pei Yuner stuck out her tongue, her worries easing.
“You’re down to your last treatment. Once this month is over, you can leave the hospital. So no more running off, okay?”
“Brother, I understand.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll figure something out. You just focus on getting better. If not, I won’t let it slide.”

A shadow of sadness crossed Pei Yuner’s face. She and Pei Yu had only each other to rely on, and she had been frail since childhood. Pei Yu had even married into the Ke family for her sake.
She felt guilty for all the hardship Pei Yu endured.
“Brother, this is all my fault. I don’t want to continue the treatment. The remaining costs are over a million yuan.”
“You’re my only kin. Don’t worry, I’ll take care of everything.”
With that, Pei Yuner threw herself into Pei Yu’s arms, tears streaming down her face.
In these times, a million was no small sum. Even martial artists didn’t have that kind of money.
Pei Yu, a university lecturer, barely made six or seven thousand yuan a month.
Raising a million was a daunting task.
Pei Yuner was well aware of Pei Yu’s sacrifices, yet he never wavered in his care for her.
“If you cry again, I might just skip my next visit,” Pei Yu teased as he gently pinched Pei Yuner’s nose, coaxing a laugh from her.
He harbored nothing but boundless care for Pei Yuner, his sole remaining kin. Naturally, he treasured her deeply.
As children, Lin Xiu would always save the best for Pei Yuner, even buying her steamed buns while he himself would secretly eat leftovers scavenged from trash bins.
Whenever Pei Yuner faced bullies, Lin Xiu would unhesitatingly leap into the fray to defend her. She was, in truth, his whole world.
How could he possibly allow his sister to endure any hardship?
Later, Pei Yu withdrew over 20,000 yuan from the bank. He then took a taxi with Pei Yuner to the hospital to settle the bills.
“You must obey the doctor’s orders here, and don’t wander off. I’ll bring you food every day. Understand?” Lin Xiu instructed Pei Yuner in the hospital room, to which she nodded in agreement.
Afterward, Pei Yu returned to his rental. He had no intention of going back to the Ke family; this would be his home from now on.
“Check!”
Pei Yu summoned the Property Panel, well aware that the system included one.
Host: Pei Yu
Cultivation Method: Hundred Refined To Be A God
Assets: 120
Reading Level: Ordinary Member
“I’m truly broke!” Pei Yu felt a twinge of embarrassment looking at his financial state.
One hundred and twenty yuan was all he had to his name. Previously, his entire paycheck went to Ke Lianxi.
Today, he had emptied his personal funds to cover his sister’s medical costs, leaving him with next to nothing.
“Power is the ultimate truth. I need to bolster my strength and aim to become a senior member. I must delve into the platinum novels!”
If ordinary novels were already impressive, the platinum novels promised even greater wonders.
Frankly, Pei Yu was filled with anticipation. Once he grew stronger, money would no longer be an issue.
