Chapter 23 - Unwillingness x Collecting Points
Chapter 23: Unwillingness x Collecting Points
“Just as expected…” Luo Lin looked at the nearby forest. He saw Gon lying on the ground, with two number plates dropped beside him, and the obvious injuries on Gon’s face from being punched.
Just like in the plot, after successfully ambushing Hisoka, Gon had been ambushed by someone else, and in the end, Hisoka saved his life!
Luo Lin thought to himself. Hisoka must have realized that Gon was being followed, so he chose to come to Gon’s side. After all, Luo Lin’s strength was clear, and there wasn’t much to worry about. But Gon, this inexperienced little apple, could easily get destroyed if he wasn’t careful.
The title of “fruit farmer” is truly fitting! Luo Lin sighed inwardly and picked up the two number plates from the ground. He lifted Gon and quickly left.
Night fell.
“Uhng…” Gon slowly opened his eyes, still dazed. He turned his head and saw Luo Lin not far away. Luo Lin was gripping a large tree and moving it up and down repeatedly.
“Luo Lin?” Gon called out instinctively.
“You’re awake!” Luo Lin glanced casually at the now-awake Gon. “Are you still feeling unwell?”
“Mm… I’m fine now,” Gon shook his head as he sat up. He looked at the number plates numbered 403 and 44 beside him. His expression turned a bit gloomy. Clearly, he had remembered what had happened during the day.
Luo Lin caught a glimpse of Gon’s movements from the corner of his eye. Although Gon only shook his head, it was clear from his actions that the effects of the tranquilizer had completely worn off.
“You beat Hisoka, only to be ambushed by someone else and then saved by Hisoka. You’re feeling pretty unwilling, aren’t you?” Luo Lin said casually while continuing his exercise.

“Yeah…” Gon replied softly.
“You saw everything, Luo Lin?”
“I didn’t see it, but I guessed it. You didn’t pass out because of the injuries on your face. Hisoka doesn’t use tranquilizers.” Luo Lin casually remarked. Of course, he wouldn’t admit that he knew this from the plot. But even without the plot, seeing Gon collapsed was enough to make an educated guess.
“I really feel so unwilling!” Gon sat on the ground, burying his head in his knees, and began to sob softly.
Luo Lin was stunned. He… started crying? So, he’s still just a kid after all. Luo Lin glanced at Gon, shook his head, and turned around to continue his tree-lifting exercises.
Under the moonlight, Luo Lin gripped a tree in each hand, repeatedly changing his movements. He lifted both hands forward. He lifted both hands to the side. He lifted both hands parallel in front of him. Unwilling, huh? But Gon wasn’t the only one feeling unwilling.
The next morning, Luo Lin and Gon parted ways. After all, Luo Lin still hadn’t collected enough points. Gon was also planning to find Leorio, Kurapika, and Killua.
In the forest, Luo Lin learned from his previous experience. Even though he knew that encountering Hisoka would likely not result in a fight, he didn’t drag a log behind him this time.
“I found it.” Luo Lin’s footsteps suddenly paused. He looked at a clearing in the forest ahead. Although it seemed like no one was there and the area was calm, Luo Lin’s sharp senses detected someone hiding there.
“The last point is within reach.” Luo Lin’s gaze locked onto a large tree in the clearing, and he suddenly burst forward.
“He’s spotted me?!” Hidden in the dense treetops, Baokuer’s pupils shrank. Without any hesitation, he quickly drew the short bow beside him.
“Whoosh!” “Whoosh!” “Whoosh!” In the blink of an eye, three arrows shot out in rapid succession.
Although it was just a short bow, the arrows were clearly made from special materials. Combined with Baokuer’s explosive strength, the arrows flew at an incredible speed. The arrows tore through the air, speeding toward Luo Lin from all directions.
“A bow?” Luo Lin’s eyes showed a hint of surprise. He remembered that among the remaining hunter candidates, the only one using a bow was Baokuer, number 53. And number 53 was his hunting target.
“How convenient!” Luo Lin thought to himself. He lightly sidestepped, dodging the three arrows with ease. Without slowing down, he continued charging toward the tree where Baokuer was hiding.
“So fast…” Baokuer’s expression changed slightly. In such a forward-charging state, Luo Lin had easily dodged the three arrows he had shot.
“If he gets close, I’m done for!” Baokuer quickly realized. He didn’t dare delay any longer, rapidly nocking arrows and shooting them toward Luo Lin. But unfortunately… although the arrows were fast, they weren’t quick enough to surpass Luo Lin’s visual tracking capabilities. And as long as he could see them, his control over his body ensured that the arrows wouldn’t hit him.
Even though… he was already within three meters of the tree.
Three meters… With a sudden burst of speed, Luo Lin crossed the distance in an instant and appeared on the tree. He tilted his head slightly, dodging an arrow aimed at his head.
“Oh?” Luo Lin was slightly surprised. He hadn’t expected Baokuer to still be able to aim at him after his sudden burst of speed. However, that was also Baokuer’s final arrow.
“Wait, I…” Baokuer’s expression changed. He looked at Luo Lin, who had suddenly exploded with terrifying speed, and tried to speak. But Luo Lin’s palm was already swinging toward him.
Baokuer instinctively raised his bow to block. The next moment, a crisp cracking sound echoed. It was unclear whether the sound came from Baokuer’s broken bow or his broken ribs. Baokuer was sent flying by Luo Lin’s palm strike. He crashed heavily into another tree behind him.
“I… I…” Baokuer’s face was filled with unwillingness. At the last moment, he had actually planned to surrender and hand over his number plate. After all, it was only the fourth day. Even if he lost his number plate, he could still hunt for another one. But now, with his injuries, he wouldn’t die, but he definitely wouldn’t be able to hunt for the next few days.
Luo Lin’s sudden burst of speed had startled Baokuer, causing him to release the last arrow by accident. But the reason no longer mattered. Luo Lin walked over to Baokuer and searched him for two number plates.
One was Baokuer’s own, number 53. The other was likely Baokuer’s hunting target.
Originally, Luo Lin had only wanted one point. But now, he had gained four points. Including the two points he already had, Luo Lin now had nine points.
Tsk tsk, that’s enough to help someone else pass the test. Without finishing off the heavily injured Baokuer, Luo Lin took the number plates and headed back to where he had been training.
For the next three days, he would give it his all.
On his way back, Luo Lin suddenly realized something. He had… eliminated Baokuer. And Baokuer was the first Nen user to be captured by the Chimera Ants in the Chimera Ant arc, right? It was also in Baokuer’s brain that the Chimera Ants found the knowledge of Nen.
Of course, Luo Lin didn’t think that without Baokuer, the ants wouldn’t learn Nen. After all, the King’s three royal guards were born with their aura nodes naturally opened.
“So… did I just save Baokuer’s life?” Luo Lin casually wondered, resting his chin on his hand.
