Children of a Lesser God

Chapter 94: Moving Forward

Chapter 94: Moving Forward

What is a dream? A projection of our inner desires? Our inner fears? Or even just a reflection of our warped minds making sense of things that enter into our lives? Science will explain how it happens, but they can't figure out why. Lately, Laz's dreams had many meanings that he somewhat understood. But there were always outliers.

The sky was a deathly gray overcast that blanketed the shattered surroundings. This might have once been a major city hundreds of years ago, or maybe even just a few years ago. The level of destruction made it hard to tell.

As a bolt of lightning pierced the sky, many figures were illuminated floating in the air, as though gods surveying their ruined domain. Each one was covered in a long black coat with a strange symbol on the back of it, while their heads were covered by a dark hood which made their faces impossible to see. In front of the group was a lone figure, standing firm against the ever violent winds. This figure strangely resembled an older Lazarus.

In the distance, a rumbling, fiery inferno was fast approaching, threatening to extinguish all life in it's path. This peerless figure could feel a deep, dark, mind numbing terror from this nearing apocalypse and yet, he felt like he was smiling. Underneath his feet, this figure noticed a huge rambling mass of figures of all shapes and sizes, standing at the ready. Some looked human, many did not.

Looking back, he could see all of the dark hoods were focused on him, as though waiting for something. A signal, a sign, something. They were waiting for their dark leader to send them into the cold jaws of death, the waiting embrace of oblivion. Even though he couldn't see their faces clearly, he knew that they, like him, were smiling.

Laughing, he brought his hand up.

And down.

Then he lead them into a slaughter.

...

Laz's eyes popped open. Although he could feel the cold sweat on his back, he couldn't remember anything. It was like a blank piece of paper occupied one part of his mind while the other seemed to be horrified. Truly, a strange feeling.

After a few deep breaths, Laz felt himself unusually warm, like he was blanketed in a layer of softness he had never felt before. Looking over, he saw a blond mass of hair sprawled all over while the owner of the hair was nuzzled in close to his arm. Leaning over, he gave the mass of hair a kiss before turning over to his other side. This time he was met by a smaller mass of red and purple hair that had grabbed hold of his other arm, locking him into place. Shifting a little, he gave this one a kiss as well.

Laz felt unusual. Considering the circumstances, he couldn't help but feel so happy he felt like his body would burst. On the other hand, he felt like he was on the verge of tears, knowing that these two beauties were about to walk out of his like. If he had his way, time would surely freeze in this moment forever.

But Time's a bitch that doesn't know how to stop.

With a soft moan, Kennedy was the first to stir. Opening her eyes, she was greeted with her silky blond hair covering her face. Lifting her hand, she moved it to the side to discover a young yet handsome face smiling at her. She couldn't help but return his smile as she stretched her neck. Meeting her halfway, they share a sweet morning kiss.

Perhaps it was just a coincidence, but after they broke the kiss, he could feel Malene stir as well. Turning his head over, he also greeted her with a warm smile. Her reaction was a bit different though as she suddenly turned bright red and attempted to burrow into his arm. Laz didn't move, just letting her come to terms with things.

Eventually, she raised her head and saw that same warm smile. Although she turned red again, she didn't try to escape and instead, smiled back. This time, Laz took the initiative to lean down towards her. Malene, incredibly nervous, responded back by stretching up to meet him as well. As they greeted each other with a morning kiss, Malene got a bit too excited and not paying attention to how she was draped over him, ended up kneeing Laz in his sack.

With a muffled grunt, Laz broke the kiss as his body tensed up. Malene, sensing his pain, pulled her leg back quickly as Laz turned a bit red. Having felt the movements and being quick on the up take, Kennedy immediately figured out what happened and couldn't help but laugh. Despite feeling back, Malene was influenced by Kennedy and couldn't help but let out a few giggles as well.

"Oh, so this is funny now hmm?" Laz was finally able to say.

"Consider it her interest," Kennedy replied before Malene could say anything.

"Interest for what?" Laz asked.

"Oh, I don't know. Violently popping her cherry? Getting her drunk and taking advantage of her? Anything ring a bell?" Kennedy shot back with a sly smile on her face..

"Wait... but... it was you... not... that..." Laz had no idea how to respond so he just kept blurting out his half finished thoughts.

"Now, now. Time to get up. Let's take a shower?" Kennedy asked while uncovering herself.

"Sure thing," Laz was quick to respond and reached out as Kennedy extended her hand.

"Not you," Kennedy rebuked him and swatted his hand away before reaching out again.

"Sure." Malene was quick to take the offered hand and crawling over Laz, quickly got to her feet. Although Laz was a bit down that he wasn't going to get to shower with them, looking over at the two girls going through their bags to find some clothes while still totally naked was a bit of payment.

As they talked a bit and laughed, they quickly found what they were looking for and went to the bathroom. Being experienced with Laz's place, Kennedy grabbed towels on the way as they went into the bathroom and locked the door.

"You don't even trust me?" Laz asked loudly at the door.

"Should we?" Both girls sweetly responded back.

"Well... No. Probably not," Laz said with a chuckle. He then proceeded to get up to find some clothes for himself. Even though it was a school day, he had no intention of going. He didn't see the point today. Putting on some pants, Laz made his way to the kitchen and poured himself a cup of the cold coffee. Even though it was cold, it felt good going down. For now, everything felt good.

Hearing the water running and the laughing coming from just behind the door, Laz couldn't help but think how much fun it would be to be in there as well, but he quickly dismissed that idea. If they wanted him to come in, they would have said something.

Seeing Vivi asleep on the sole comfy and yet worn out chair in the living room, Laz made his way over to sit down a bit, rubbing her head. Although he didn't want this moment to end, he knew it would. Good things never last forever. All a person can do it to keep moving forward. Drinking his coffee, Laz looked out the window and could see the cloud covered sky. For the first time in Laz's life that he could remember, he was curious about what tomorrow would bring.

The girls quickly made their way out of the bathroom wrapped in towels and started to go for their clothes. Laz didn't do anything other than sit there and give them time.

When they came out, fully dressed and looking like angels, Laz couldn't help but take a deep breath and stand up. Kennedy and Malene walked up to him and stood there, giving him a look like two happy little wives waiting for a kiss before setting off. Laz happily obliged.

Kennedy stepped up first. The kiss was deep, long and sensual and couldn't help but stoke his fire once again. Even though he didn't want to separate, he wasn't going to make things hard for her either. After her was Malene. Their kiss was sweet and sassy with a healthy hint of ust and it once again ended too soon. The girls then proceeded to get on their shoes and jackets before stopping. As they took a quick glance at each other, they raced over to Laz.

Kennedy kiss him on his left cheek and whisper into his ear,

"Don't forget me."

Malene kissed his right cheek and slipped him a piece of paper.

Both girls then bolted out the door, leaving it open behind them. As the cold breeze assaulted Laz's bare upper body, he didn't even feel a slight shiver. Laughing to himself, he walked over and closed the door. Looking at the paper, he saw a girl's hurried writing.

'My first time will always belong to you.' Written underneath it was what Laz assumed to be her phone number.

Looking out the window, Laz tried his hardest to stop the tears that were quickly forming.

...

In a lavish mansion surrounded by hundreds of arches of private land, a man sat at his desk while looking at one of the three screens in front of him. Although he showed some faint signs of gray, he still looked rather young and vigorous as he went about with his work. A knock at the door didn't stop him.

"Come in."

A young man with a stone cold handsome face walked in while holding a tablet and looking at some numbers from a report. Neither man actually looked at each other.

"Did the old man give it up?"

"No. He's incredibly stubborn. Just like I remember him."

"Even for all that money?"

"Mmm. Apparently money can't buy everyone."

"It's all about how much your willing to offer."

"No son. Despite what you might think, some people honestly couldn't give a damn about it. Even the ones who don't have it."

"That's... different from what I've heard." The young man finally looked up. Surprisingly, the young man was Jesse. His face was completely emotionless and his mouth was in neither a smile, nor a frown.

"Well, consider it a new lesson. Isn't that why you go to school? To learn about the things you were hidden from for many years?"

"Among other things, yes. I suppose."

"Don't tell me your actually attached to those friends of yours?" The old man shot a quick glance at his genus son before returning his eyes to the request he was writing.

"No. It's more like a game really. I need to learn to act normal after all. If not, how will I interact with the world once your gone?" Although the words sounded threatening, the older man wasn't bother by it. His son was one that said exactly what he thought all the time, no matter what. It made others very nervous to be around, but his father found it rather refreshing.

"Did that include sleeping with that girl.. Annetta? Annie? Whatever it was?"

"Well, yes in fact. Not that she is hard to please, but I did need some hands on experience."

"I could have gotten you hundreds of girls."

"Yes, but I don't know them do I? Therefore, there would always be that dividing line between me and them. It would be nothing more than a transaction between two people. Simple business. That's not helpful."

"And your assistant?"

"Chemical reaction caused by stimulants in the air. Actually, it's probably better that way. She feels as though she can control me and therefore control the company based on me. Truly naive, but a rather insightful show to watch play out."

"There is nothing I can do right now about the old data until we find him. You'll have to wait."

"Alright. When are you leaving?"

"Soon. As soon as your mother is ready."

"You're not bringing one of your mistresses this time?"

"No. It's a business function so it has to be formal."

"I'll never understand. Why does it matter what partner you bring if they serve no purpose other than decoration?"

"That is your mother we are talking about."

"Then should I feel something amounting to love for her?"

"No. I suppose you wouldn't. Well, you don't need to understand these concepts, just make sure you learn them and act accordingly."

"Of course father." With a sudden change as though someone had flicked a light switch, Jesse's face reveal his normal, everyday relaxed smile. If you didn't know better, you would have thought they were completely different people. Even his aura changed, giving off a more youthful, lively vibe. No matter how many times his father had seen him do this, it still crept him out. It was a very real life version of Jeckel and Hyde.

"Alright dad, I'm off to school. Let me know you get there safe!" Even Jesse's voice seemed different.

"Whatever it is, don't go overboard. Understand?" The older man lectured as he stood up and walked for the door.

Following closely behind him, 'Jesse' set off for school.
