Rex lay on his bed that night, facing the ceiling, a slight smirk playing on his face as he examined his current stats. His agility has increased during the recent battle against silent Squealer and that was a good thing.
"Normal Classes start tomorrow" Rex sighed rubbing his hair carelessly. "What am I gonna tell them I've awakened?" He wasn't planning on revealing the system or his time powers to anyone but for him to stay in the school, he had to choose a specific ability
"Hmm," Rex hit his head slightly, thinking hard.
"Yeah, I'll tell them it's super speed! My speed right now is far greater than someone who just awakened, so I'll use that to my advantage. The physique of ability users increased as they advanced to higher tiers, so if he told them super speed was his ability, he'd have to start investing his stat points into agility.
"Thou hast made a wise decision harbinger!" Cronus chimed in, shaking Rex off his thoughts "but thy foes are greater than thou art still"
"Yeah, it's either General Silas or Miss Lyra" Rex responded.
He knew fully well that Ralph was sent by someone to dispose of him due to his lack of abilities and so... the only person who knew that he didn't awaken was Silas and Lyra. If he were to make a guess, the odds would be 80 to Silas and 20 to Lyra.
"I may be a good guy who would stop at nothing to rescue someone in need or my loved ones but if they dare mess with me, I won't think twice before sending them to the afterlife"
"Good decision, Harbinger" Cronus replied
"Aether, 2/20" Rex muttered and then continued "How do I get more Aether, the only way I've been getting ever since is by leveling up but what if I run out of it before leveling up" Rex asked.
Rex stared at the ceiling, his hands behind his head as Cronus' words lingered in his mind.
"You must gather more Aether to withstand the trials ahead," Cronus had said, his voice echoing in Rex's thoughts like an ancient riddle. "And to do so, meditation is thy best option."
Rex rolled over, groaning. "Meditation, huh?" He sat up, crossing his legs on the bed. "How hard can it be?" He shut his eyes, breathing in deeply, then exhaling in a slow, exaggerated manner, already feeling like some wise old monk.
Clear your mind, Rex. Focus on the Aether.
In his mind's eye, he tried to imagine streams of Aether flowing toward him like cool mist. He thought he was onto something for a moment until random thoughts barged in.
What am I going to wear tomorrow? Rex pondered, picturing himself in various outfits. Maybe I should go with that jacket Seraphina liked... or was it the shoes? He peeked through one eye, squinting at his closet.
"Focus!" he chastised himself, trying to get back into meditation mode.
He closed his eyes again and breathed deeply. Aether... Aether... His thoughts slipped back into a rhythm, his mind began to calm down. That was until another thought popped up: What if the cafeteria runs out of bacon tomorrow?
His stomach growled. "Come on!" Rex threw his head back in frustration, rubbing his temples.
Cronus, witnessing the inner chaos, let out a deep sigh. "Harbinger, thou art not meditating, thou art... daydreaming."
"I'm trying!" Rex protested, his voice laced with exasperation. "But my brain is like...."
"a tavern filled with idle chatter?" Cronus interrupted, a faintly amused tone in his voice.
Rex grunted, lying back down on his bed. "Okay, let's try this again."
This time, he focused intensely, imagining a calm ocean... until he remembered he hadn't checked his phone ever since he started the acdemy. Did I miss any important messages? damn it! I don't even have any contacts?
Rex could feel the Aether within him, just out of reach, like an itch he couldn't scratch. He took a deep breath and forced himself to think of nothing but stillness, slowly sinking deeper into the silence of his mind.
Minutes passed and finally, a glimmer of Aether flickered inside him. He stayed focused, pushing away the intrusive thoughts with sheer determination.
"Five more minutes..." he whispered to himself, concentrating. Slowly but surely, he began to feel the energy gathering around him, like a warm, gentle pulse that surrounded his body.
Suddenly, the notification sound of his phone buzzed.
Rex opened one eye. "Oh, for crying out loud!"
"Harbinger!" Cronus yelled...
"Uh? That's weird... who's calling me?" Rex thought as he reached out for his phone, confusion evident on his face as he stared at the strange number
"Hmm, it won't hurt to pick right?" He gulped down and then answered the call
"Hello" A soft feminine voice replied from the other end
"Um...hello?" Rex replied
"It's me, Seraphina, the girl you asked out yesterday" Seraphina spoke, her icy voice sounding a bit excited
"Oh.... Um.... Sera.... How're you doing? Um..." Rex rubbed his hair nervously. Damn it!
"How'd you get my number?" Rex asked
"Don't think about that!" Seraphina replied and then continued "We didn't schedule the time for our date, did we?"
"Oh... Yeah... about that... um... I'd say 7 pm" Rex replied
"Ok, then... deal! We meet at Oak and Lantern's " She stated and then hung the call
As the call ended, Rex started smashing the bed in frustration "Dammit Dammit Dammit, I didn't think she took me seriously, damn it! I was only trying to look cool when I asked her out!" Rex screamed "And of all places, she had to pick Oak and Lantern's restaurant? I don't even have enough money for that! I spend all my money on Junk"
"Ahahaha!" Cronus laughed
"What's so funny, Cronus?" Rex asked
"Nothing!" He replied
(Aether- 20/20)
"Okay, then! Let's go to Tartarus now! I'll worry about this date later! I didn't get a system to slack off!!!" Rex sighed.
