Chapter 23: Visiting The Grave

Chapter 23: Visiting The Grave

While Khal was feeling kind of down, Liza looked at his Badge with curiosity.

After reading for a small while, she suddenly turned surprised and asked, “So your Talent is called Sight Enhancement, huh? Cool! And how does it work?”

Liza’s reactions surprised a bit Khal, so he glanced at Liza with confusion and stayed silent.

Liza seeing Khal was staring at her like that, furrowed her eyebrow slightly and asked, “What?”

“Ah… it’s nothing. I was just surprised that you didn’t laugh at me after seeing my Rank and Talent.”

When she heard this, Liza frowned even deeper and without any hesitation, she hit Khal’s head from behind.

*Slap!*

“!”

Surprised by the sudden smack from behind, Khal could only lean forward, and while gently massaging the back of his head, he looked at her with a slight glare.

“Why did you need to hit me this time?”

Looking at Khal with a somewhat angry expression, Liza asked instantly, “Why would I even laugh at you? I’m not the kind of person who would laugh because of something like this. Just the fact alone that you thought I will make me angry!”

“…”

Hearing what she said, Khal looked stunned but a small while later knew he shouldn’t have said that.

Currently, Liza was the only one for him and that was also true to her.

“It seems I just simply overreacted it.”, thought Khal calmly.

In his past life, he was used to be the center of ridiculing and insulting, so he thought this would happen here now too. But it seems luckily he was wrong, and Liza was way more mature than that.

With a sigh and a nod, Khal handed Liza’s Badge back to her and scratched his neck slowly with a wry smile.

“You are right. I shouldn’t have said that. I’m sorry.”, said Khal, while he handed her Badge back to her.

Liza seeing that Khal did mean his apology and didn’t just say it smiled and said, “Apology accepted. But still… An F-Rank? Really? Your power looked much stronger when you have fought. Something must have gone wrong during the test.”

Khal hearing this nodded and while taking back his Badge from Liza he said, “Right? I thought this too and even if my Talent not as powerful as yours, it should have been at least a Rank C if not B. But, whatever… I ended up as an F-rank Cultivator, so I can’t really change it now, can I?”

Also, to tell the truth, Khal didn’t really want a higher rank. If others found out that he was on a high Rank with a power that was almost a cheat-like support ability, more and more people would start to look for him in both good and bad ways.

And he didn’t really want that to happen.

If that would happen, then it would be only a matter of time when his power gets busted, pitting him in a quite dire position.

He didn’t want to get busted, not until he becomes strong enough. Not only to protect himself from dangers but also to have the power to find out the mystery behind everything that is currently happening with him.

From the point of how he got transported into this strange world, to the case of what his bracelet’s true origin was.

Also, maybe he didn’t think about it the moment he woke up in this ‘other dimension’ or world, but now that he has the time, he truly wants to understand what happened with the real Khal.

Because he was not reincarnated in a way where he was born and started a full new life, Khal knew that something must have happened with the original owner of this body, but as to what, he didn’t have any clue at all.

“And that is why I will become strong enough to find out everything.”, thought Khal calmly and glanced at Liza.

“But before that, I have something to do first.”, thought Kha and asked Liza calmly, “Can you please take me to Miss Mary’s grave?”

***

Somewhere in the outer part of Moon City, Khal and Liza were standing before a small grave, while on top of it, a bouquet of white flowers was placed with care.

While Liza was looking at the grave with mixed emotions of sorrow and hatred in her eyes, Khal kneeled before the grave, and with closed eyes, he started to pray.

Maybe he didn’t know Miss Mary because of the small amount of time he had been given to know her, he was thankful for whatever she did to him and Liza.

From the fact that she obtained the invitation letter to the Realm Pillar, to the point where she worked hard to make sure they got food at the end of the day, Khal knew that she didn’t earn this fate.

“She should have deserved much better.”, thought Khal as he lowered his hand and looked at the grave before him.

After staying silent for a bit more, he stood up and in a quiet voice he said, “Thank you for everything and I hope your soul is resting in peace.”

Glancing at Liza who was still looking extremely angry and sad, Khal sighed and said, “Let’s go. We still have a lot of things to do.”

Liza hearing Khal nodded and after looking at the grave for one last time she started to follow him from behind.

“Um… I didn’t want to ask this, but we don’t have anywhere to go. Even if we enroll into Moon Academy, we need to pay fees if we want to stay in a dorm.”, said Liza calmly as she walked next to Khal.

“I know. That is why after we enroll in Moon Academy, I will find a job. But, until then, we will stay in the orphanage.”

When Liza heard this, her expression turned that of a surprise, making Khal to look at her with confusion.

“What?”, asked Khal with a slightly raised eyebrow.

“I… It’s nothing. It’s just that you always hated to work, so hearing that you will find a job made me quite surprised.”

When Khal heard this, he thought, “Was the original Khal that lazy, that even his childhood friend saw him like that?”

After thinking about this, he smiled wryly and said, “Well, it’s not like I have a choice at all. If we want to survive and grow stronger, we first need money to start somewhere.”

“I see.”, said Liza, but after a small, while later she looked at Khal, and with a smile, she said, “To tell the truth, you don’t really need to find a job. What I said was a lie. After we enroll in Moon Academy, we will be given a place to live freely.”

“…”

Seeing Khal’s expressionless face, Liza smiled and said, “Come on! Don’t look at me like that. I was just curious about your reaction. But honestly, I would have never thought you would respond like that. You have truly… changed…”

Khal hearing what Liza said suddenly felt a strange sensation sweeping through his body that was quite hard to describe, but it only lasted for a small amount of time. After the following second, he just sighed and said, “I see. Then when will we be able to enroll into the Academy?”

Liza looked up at the sky where the moon was already shining down at them with its beautiful white light and smiled.

“If I know it right, it should be tomorrow morning.”

“I see.”, replied Khal quietly, and without asking anything else, he started to watch the clear sky above his head too.

After inhaling and exhaling a big amount of air, Khal glanced back at Liza and started to talk.

“Let’s go. We need to take our stuff before we leave.”

“Sure.”, said Liza with a nod, and without saying anything else she followed Khal back to the orphanage.
