Chapter 24
Chapter 24: The Other Gorilla’s Soul
“Rrrr.” (This thing is too weak, it’s not worth it to waste my energy on this little weak monkey who can’t even scratch my knuckles.)
Hearing Robus’ response, Blake was slightly taken aback as he certainly didn’t expect to hear such a reply from a gorilla that had a simple mind and could barely express himself about half an hour ago.
‘Does the covenant also affect his intelligence to make him able to think this far? Or did the feeling come from within himself?’ Blake wondered as he stared at the huge gorilla that was currently reaching out his hand to grab the other gorilla’s soul.
‘Well, the skill’s description from the system didn’t mention anything about sharing intelligence or anything like the two sides that agreed to the covenant would affect each other in their personalities or any ways other than exchanging the affinities, but I can’t be too sure of the system’s description itself because it might have been simplified or not mentioned them since it didn’t consider such things to be important.’
‘I don’t know who made the system and why it’s in me or what its purpose is, but I know for sure that it has helped me so far. Furthermore, it was also probably the thing that had saved me from dying back in the human world...’

‘And I don’t think it had ever done anything hostile to me so far, so it skipped some details about the darkness monarch’s covenant skill shouldn’t be something crucial that should endanger me right? If it wants me to die then it wouldn’t even appear to help in the first place, if it was meant to ask me to do something then I couldn’t know about it yet since all the things that it had told me to do, the quest, only told me to get myself stronger.’
‘Will it tell me to continuously get stronger until I am strong enough to help it? Such instances weren’t rare in those stories I’ve read and I don’t have any problems with it if that were the case. It had helped me to gain this awesome power, the ability to use the nether, and a chance to get here, inside the nether realm, doing something back for it didn’t look like a bad exchange for me as long as it didn’t tell me to outright die for it or sacrifice my soul....’
.....
‘Still, I can’t decide anything unless I know where it comes from and what’s its purpose... But if it really was hostile to me...’
Blake’s unending train of thoughts was suddenly cut off as he saw a fist bigger than his own head approaching him from his front. It looked like the fist was slowly moving to hit his body, but the fist stopped about a foot in front of Blake and opened up, revealing a soul orb in the middle of its palm.
Blake blinked several times and followed the huge fists to see a huge arm and when he raised his eyes a little, he could see Robus’ eyes were looking at his.
“Rrr” (Thank you for giving me this power, giving me the chance to get my revenge on that monkey.)
Blake wanted to say that he also got his own benefits from doing the covenant and told the gorilla that he shouldn’t think too much about it and he should just enjoy the taste of his revenge first by eating the other gorilla’s soul, but Robus wasn’t done speaking yet,
“rrrr.”( I will follow you anywhere you want to go and we will get stronger together, just like you said earlier. I will be the strongest gorilla and I will protect you and fight with you as thanks for this chance you have given me.) Robus continued speaking before giving Blake a three-second bow with his head.
‘Ah, I remember saying that earlier to convince him.’ Blake thought to himself before nodding his head and accepting Robus’ gift for him. Upon hearing Robus’ words and actually feeling the connection with the gorilla, he could feel what Robus felt about giving Blake the other gorilla’s soul, and that was a sincere sense of gratitude, and it would definitely hurt the gorilla if he refused the gift.
So with a clear and solid reason to take the soul and also his great curiosity about eating a demon’s soul that belonged to a demon that was significantly stronger than himself, Blake quickly abandoned the thought of refusing the gift and quickly grabbed the soul orb that was apparently the same size as any other soul orbs despite coming from a gorilla that was probably 5 or even 10 times bigger than himself or the other creatures that he had defeated before.
Upon grabbing the soul with his right hand and seeing the relieved look on Robus’ face after he received the soul, Blake then put the soul directly into his mouth and swallowed it.
Blake was expecting something different from the soul that he had just swallowed since it was a soul that belonged to a creature that was so strong that Blake would actually need to put in actual effort to defeat rather than the demonic wolves or the demonic boars that only needed him to pay a little bit attention to defeat.
But when he had actually swallowed the soul, he was certainly overwhelmed as he had clearly underestimated the difference between the usual souls that he ate compared to the current one.
First of all, the soul that he had just eaten had actually had a taste! The other souls, the wolves’ and the boars’ souls that he had eaten didn’t taste like anything as they only went inside his mouth and disappeared into his body without giving any signals to his body. On the other hand, the gorilla’s soul clearly tasted savory to him.
If he were to compare it to his cooking, the sweet and spicy fried pork tasted better, but for a soul, something that was usually bland and tasted like air, this particular soul had a certain savory taste to it.
‘What makes this soul different? Why does it have a flavor? Why is it...tasty...?’
