Chapter 266 - 266 Fight (5)
266 Fight (5)
Compared to the illusion spell that he put up to fool Blake and his group or even Vera’s last second improvised spatial rune formation to teleport all of them to the current isolated space, the amount of nether that gathered all around him was definitely lesser.
However, the difference between the current spell that Vera had just released to the world and those massive rune formations was that the massive rune formations encased a large area with their equally large amount of nether.
But in the spell’s case, although there wasn’t as much nether gathering around the scrawny humanoid demon as the rune formations, the amount of nether that gathered in a single area, around the scrawny humanoid demon, could be said to be denser compared to those rune formations that spread out the gathered nether around a large area.
That concentrated amount of nether in a single spot was clearly enough to set the danger alarm off in the scrawny humanoid demon’s mind, forcing him to abandon whatever he was doing with his hands, casting away the thought of attacking Vera with a combination spell of his and focused on his own well being.
And without even knowing what kind of spell would manifest into the world, the scrawny humanoid demon knew that his first priority would be to save himself instead of launching his attack. If Blake were to be in his position, he would also do the same since he would feel like the hidden knife he held behind his back could do nothing to the threat of a machine gun pointed straight at his face.
So abandoning the almost finished sets of runes that he had painstakingly tried to finish in seconds, the scrawny humanoid demon poured all his nether into the bracelet and ring on his left arm.
Activating the two rune formations, two walls made from demonic spells almost instantly manifested themselves into the world. One made out of the darkness element stood directly in front of his body while another one made out of red flames stood behind him, protecting the scrawny humanoid demon’s back. The two walls of different elements protected him from all sides except from the direction of his feet and his head.

And just as the quick barrier spells could manifest themselves, the complex spell that Vera cast finally manifested itself.
“Oh! And although this spell wasn’t made by my disciple, just know that he found a way to tame this spell that almost all rune masters were taught as a complete failure and something they shouldn’t be doing when they create a new spell.”
.....
Several ideas came up to the scrawny humanoid demon’s head when he heard Vera’s explanation of the spell, but he didn’t have any time to ponder as the answers soon stabbed themselves straight to his head and his heart.
The scrawny humanoid demon was very ready to receive the first impact of the cast spell, hence why he gritted his teeth and prepared his nether to supplement his shields to repair them if they received too much damage.
And he did, in fact, properly defend against the first darkness spike that came to collide against the darkness barrier in front of him.
However, when the second, third, fourth, fifth, and the next dozens of hits came, the scrawny humanoid demon was not in any way prepared for them. Especially when they came in a second interval and they all came from different directions.
In just two seconds, dozens of darkness spikes protruded from the ground all around the scrawny humanoid demon. They aimed themselves toward the bundle of darkness elements attached to the scrawny humanoid demon’s chest. And with his last second defense option, the scrawny humanoid demon couldn’t be said to be dealing with the barrage of darkness spikes quite well.
The darkness barrier was doing its job quite well due to its characteristics being rigid and enabling the caster to see past the barrier, but the flame barrier that the scrawny humanoid demon decided to cast didn’t work quite as well as the darkness barrier in terms of stopping the flurry of darkness spikes.
With the inherent nature of flames being incorporeal in the sense that someone couldn’t grab flames using their hands, it was not a good defense to have when the spell that the flames were trying to defend against was concentrated darkness elements shaped as darkness spikes.
Although the flames were definitely hot enough to weaken the structure of the darkness spikes, these darkness spikes were mostly able to pierce through the gas-like barrier while still having the majority of its solid structure intact for a second before the flame wall finally did its job and destroyed the body of the darkness spikes with its heat.
And with that, the scrawny humanoid demon was the one who had to receive the attacks of the weakened darkness spikes, straight to his body the first few times these darkness spikes appeared from behind him.
Holes, more than just several of them appeared on the scrawny humanoid demon’s back in the second that it took for him to realize that the flame barrier wasn’t the most optimal spell to cast in defending against Vera’s spell.
And in that first second that he received the spell, the scrawny humanoid demon finally knew what kind of spell Vera was talking about when she said it was a spell that all rune masters would say as a failed spell that they shouldn’t create.
With the exchange of control and precision, the spell focused solely on its quantity and its firepower. A spell that summoned literal hundreds of untamed darkness spikes that could even hit its own caster on his back.
‘The Suicide Spike Garden…’ The scrawny humanoid thought to himself as he kicked his foot against the ground, dodging the darkness spikes that were about to hit him from right beneath his unprotected feet.
Blake called the spell as a myriad of darkness tendrils/spikes but at the rune master community, it had its own name. One that was not as self explanatory as Blake’s naming sense.
The Suicide Spike Garden, as its name suggests, the spell would create a garden of spikes all around the caster, hitting not only the enemies all around himself but also himself in the process.
And right now, with more and more wounds appearing on his body due to his feeble and spontaneous defense, a very big question that appeared on his head was how The Suicide Spike Garden could suddenly be tamed and could even have a target assigned to it.
But that question couldn’t even occupy the scrawny humanoid demon’s head for so long as only a couple of seconds had passed and only about a hundred darkness spikes had manifested themselves into the world.
There were still several more seconds before the spell finished manifesting and hundreds more darkness tendrils that the scrawny humanoid demon needed to deal with.
