Deviant: No Longer Human

Chapter 528: If you act like thief, people would think you are thief!

"Phew... They didn't catch us..."

Wang Xiao and Wang Xueying slipped past the guards, moving like shadows beneath the fading light.

Wang Xiao's sharp gaze flickered to his sister, urging her to remain calm. The guards, distracted and on edge, didn't so much as glance in their direction. Their heightened alertness seemed to work in the siblings' favor.

Ahead of them loomed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs—a massive, circular structure that gleamed with a translucent sheen.

The entire building seemed to pulse with energy, its glass walls glowing softly in the sun.

Wang Xueying's breath hitched as the grandeur of the place struck her. Unable to contain herself, she grabbed Wang Xiao's shoulders, her hands trembling with excitement.

"Hey, I can't believe it—we tricked them!" she whispered, her laughter bubbling just beneath the surface.

Her eyes, wide with awe, darted between the towering building and the people rushing inside.

Wang Xiao's lips curled into a knowing smile, nodding. Although it was he who had planned their escape from detection, seeing his sister's joy was satisfying.

"Calm down. We're not out of the woods yet," he said softly, but his tone remained casual, as if nothing could disturb his confidence.

As they neared the massive entrance, Wang Xueying straightened, squaring her shoulders as though she belonged among the elite officials streaming into the building.

She adopted a professional air, striding forward with the grace of someone accustomed to power.

Wang Xiao hid a smile, knowing she had no idea their invisibility wasn't due to her acting, but his hidden techniques.

He let her believe in her own cleverness, for now.

Inside, the atmosphere buzzed with urgency. Ministry staff hustled past in hurried strides, whispers and murmurs filling the air with subtle tension.

It was as if the very walls of the building were vibrating with a sense of importance, though Wang Xueying couldn't quite grasp what was happening.

Two employees, both clad in dark, neatly pressed uniforms, walked past the siblings. Their faces were pale with stress, and they spoke in low, urgent tones.

"Did you hear what the security team's saying? All units on high alert... they've doubled the patrols around the north wing," the first man muttered.

The woman next to him frowned, casting a wary glance around the room. "Of course. This is no ordinary day... You'd better not make a mistake, not with everything that's happening. They're watching everyone."

Wang Xueying, who had been stealing glances at the building's lavish interiors, suddenly furrowed her brow. "... What's going on? Why is everyone acting so strange?" she whispered, a note of concern creeping into her voice.

Wang Xiao chuckled softly, his voice calm. "Don't worry about it. Officals always act stressed and busy for no reason." He offered no further explanation, though his eyes gleamed with hidden knowledge.

The staff's hurried movements became more frantic the deeper they ventured into the facility. Security teams stood at attention, their eyes sweeping over every corner. Wang Xueying, still oblivious to the real cause, shrugged and let it go, focusing instead on their destination.

They stepped into the glass lift, the walls reflecting the glowing cityscape outside.

Wang Xueying's mood lifted once again as she pressed herself against the glass, admiring the view.

"Look at this place! It's even more incredible than I imagined!" she exclaimed, her excitement returning full force.

Wang Xiao smirked, leaning casually against the side of the lift. "You act like you've never seen a fancy building before."

As the elevator ascended, their reflections mirrored back at them, perfectly composed, appearing no different from the high-ranking officials they passed.

But beneath Wang Xiao's calm exterior, his mind worked swiftly.

There were certain names, certain presences here that had to remain unspoken.

The lift doors slid open, revealing a grand hallway bathed in soft lighting. A few officials stood nearby, their faces tight with concern.

"I just saw the Foreign Minister rush to the north wing," one official muttered, his hand hovering over his communicator. "He didn't look pleased. Something serious must be going on."

"Of course, he's not pleased," another added, her voice sharp. "Do you know the weight of what's happening today? We can't repeat the Seoul's tradegy...Everyone's nerves are frayed. Just stay sharp and do your job."

Wang Xueying tilted her head, clearly puzzled. "What are they talking about?" she whispered to Wang Xiao, casting a quick glance at the officials as they passed.

Wang Xiao gave her a reassuring smile, though his eyes were sharp. "Nothing for you to worry about. We're just here to have a look around, remember?"

They continued down the corridor, Wang Xueying still stealing glances at the imposing architecture while Wang Xiao kept his senses on high alert.

The deeper they went, the more staff they passed—each one moving with a quiet urgency, heads bowed, some even casting glances toward the northern wing of the building.

A young clerk approached them, a courteous smile on his face despite the tension in the air. "Pardon me, are you part of the delegation? If you need directions to the briefing room, I'd be happy to assist."

Wang Xiao didn't hesitate, waving a hand dismissively. "No need. We know where we're headed."

The clerk bowed slightly, then hurried off, glancing nervously at his communicator as it buzzed in his hand.

Once they were alone, Wang Xueying's beautiful eyes glimmered with curiosity. "Brother, don't you think it's strange? Everyone's acting like something really big is happening today… Do you think we'd be in trouble if they found us?"

Wang Xiao smirked, shaking his head lazily. "If you act like a thief, people will think you're a thief. And if we get caught? At best, they'll throw us in a cell and interrogate us until we're bored to death."

"..."

Wang Xueying's crimson lips curled into a tight frown, and without hesitation, she pinched him sharply on the arm. "Why do you always say such ominous things!" she huffed, her voice barely above a whisper but brimming with indignation.

Wang Xiao raised an eyebrow. "Ominous? I'm just being practical." He shrugged as if the possibility of being jailed was nothing more than a minor inconvenience.

Then, without warning, his expression turned serious. His gaze flickered briefly towards something unseen. "Wait here. I'll be back in a moment," he said suddenly, stepping away.

"Huh? What—where are you going?" Wang Xueying asked, her voice rising in surprise. Her slim fingers instinctively caught the sleeve of his clothes, but the motion drew too much attention.

She froze, her grip faltering as several nearby officials glanced in her direction.

Wang Xiao cast her a sidelong glance. "Just stay calm, stroll around. And if anyone bothers you, beat them up. If beating them doesn't work — throw them out of window, it usually shuts them up." His tone was maddeningly calm, as though violence was the simplest solution to everything.

"I'll find a washroom," he added, disappearing into the crowd with practiced ease.

"Eh?" Wang Xueying stood there, stunned. Her heart raced as her brother vanished into the sea of people.
