Dragon's Wrath: The Cursed Returnee

Chapter 17 Defense Training

Before Lyla could answer, rather, since she took her sweet time to answer Ethan's question, it was already too late when she recovered from the shock. She only saw Ethan crossing the classroom door and leaving without looking back. As a teacher and someone who studied that fighting style for years in another world, she knew that sword dancers were particularly bad at dealing with throwing projectiles.

The sword dance style was made to fool their opponents, to mess with the opponent's rhythm, and to make them react in a way that is easy to follow. Once one trains for enough time, they soon learn the weakness of the basics and thus try to overcome their shortcomings. In fact, Lyla would teach in the future how to deal with projectiles, but the damage had already been done.

She didn't expect that the boy, who possibly was the weakest student in the school, could use one of the weakest of the style so soon. In the end, Lyla spent the rest of the day in a daze, not because one of his students lost, but because she felt that she should have talked with them about such problems early on.

Meanwhile, Ethan was heading wondering if he would be bullied later on by Lyla's students. He put quite of the scene back there, and right now, Ethan was barely stronger than an ordinary human, so he couldn't properly protect himself.

"I guess that is another reason to train on the simulator," Ethan shrugged.

Truth to be told, Ethan was quite surprised when he saw Ian moving. His movements were so sharp that he looked like an assassin instead of a dancer. Considering that it was a course for the students of the F rank, he shouldn't have many hours of experience using it. Besides, while he was preparing the feint, his eyes looked unwavering, as if he was used to studying her opponents during a battle in such a cold manner.

"The air around him changed after the start and the end of the battle," Ethan muttered. "He is no ordinary guy… Well, it would be weird if all the people here were happy-go-lucky teenagers."

Such thoughts disappeared from Ethan's mind when he returned to the simulator's floor. However, before activating one of the free rooms, he decided to check the ranking again. As expected, when he clicked on his position, on the right side appeared the icon of a camera. It looked like everyone could see whatever he did there.

"Oh, well…" Ethan shrugged. "I guess it can't be helped, given how much I benefit from this. Maybe this time, I should not only focus on learning the elemental resistances but also watch the slimes attack from up close. I feel like if I do this and add the experience of the sensations, I will be able to learn magic on my own."

Using his system, Ethan could even buy potions, but it would be suspicious to use them on the simulator. Still, thanks to that, he had an idea. He touched the wall and opened a screen of the cafeteria menu… it was there. The cafeteria was even selling potions.

"Those are surprisingly cheap," Ethan frowned. "Are they being produced here, or are the humans buying from other worlds? I can't even imagine what type of currency a fantasy world would accept."

Ethan had quite a leeway with money, but he wasn't quite sure if he should spend everything today on potions. Still, given that he was in a hurry to recover his powers, he decided to buy fifty health potions. In the blink of an eye, he spent ten thousand dollars.

"Who could have thought I would be so loose with money," Ethan laughed while the potions were appearing before him. "In any case, let's buy some souvenirs for my family… I wonder if I can sell the things I can buy in my store here."

The rate exchange seemed quite nice, Ethan could buy those potions in his shop for fifty coins, so perhaps his power as a hero gave him a good source of income. Regardless, Ethan took out his shirt and jacket before entering the simulator. It would be a pity to damage the gift that his big sister gave him while he trains, after all.

Ethan will have to move around while evading the projectiles on his head and lower half, but since the monsters always aimed at his vitals, he only had to worry about his head. So, he didn't have to worry about damaging his pants. Even though the simulator was basically emulating an illusion, it was better to be safe than sorry.

"Again, huh," Ethan said.

After choosing the free mode, Ethan received that notification. When the scenario changed, the slimes appeared and didn't waste any time and fired several magic projectiles.

Ethan let only a single projectile of each element hit him, and thanks to that, he received those notifications. That being said, even though the projectiles only scratched him, he still lost five points of health when each of them hit him.

"I guess their MAG is ten, and since my RES is five, I received that much damage," Ethan concluded. "Still, this isn't as painful as it was supposed to be."

While Ethan was drinking the bitter potions, since their quality was low, the slimes continued to attack him. Thanks to the skills he received, their attacks caused even less damage than before. As weird as it sounded, Ethan could see that at the end of the day, those monsters wouldn't be able to make him even feel ticklish.
