Extreme Flame Wizard

Chapter 11: The First Day and the Wizard

Chapter 11: The First Day and the WizardPrincipal: “...The next 3 years will pass by quickly, but we look forward to see the results of your efforts.”

The principal finished his long-winded speech.

All the newcomers were gathered into one large lecture room and held an entrance ceremony. 80% of the students there were female, so Igni’s motivation exponentially grew. He thanked his grandfather inside his heart many times.

Yoori: “The principal’s speech was long, right?”

Alicia: “It’s the same no matter where you go.”

Yoori and Alicia share their impressions of the ceremony.

Igni: (Long? Really? There wasn't enough time to memorize all of their faces….)

Of course, Igni was talking about memorizing all the girl’s faces. Men were shut out from his line of vision.

And as a side note, Yoori is hovering on the outside of Igni’s *safe zone, and then tricks Igni and creeps over the safe line at times.

{{Chonky Notes - *Safe to like romantically}}

Alicia: “Let’s go to the classroom.”

Alicia gets up abruptly.

Yoori gets up as well as the other students.

It looks like as soon as the entrance ceremony is complete, everyone is moving to their own classroom.

Igni: “Alright, let’s go. It was Class D, right?”

Yoori: “Yeah, that’s right, but… where is the classroom? I haven’t quite gotten used to the layout here.”

Alicia: “Oh, me too. I hope we run into someone who knows where it is.”

Igni: “I know. Just follow me.”

Yoori: “What?! Really?!”

Alicia: “You just memorized where the classroom is?”

Igni: “Yeah, of course.”

It’s a lie.

Igni will undertake any and all extreme methods to become popular.

Secret of Popularity No. 2 ----”Men should always take the lead.”

Following this rule, in order to become good friends with girls at the Entrance Ceremony, Igni went around exploring the campus prior to the Entrance Ceremony and memorized all the important buildings and classroom locations…..!

This is OBSESSION.

The obsession to want to be popular with the girls!

Alicia: “Oh yeah, Igni, do you remember the 1st Year Rep?”

Igni: “Yeah, there’s no way I would forget.”

As we walk in the hallway, Alicia whispers to Igni.

During the Entrance Ceremony, there was a speech from the 1st Year Rep. And this was someone Alicia and Igni knew.

Yoori: “....uh… huh…? What kind of person was she again?”

Yoori tilts his head to the side as he tries to remember.

Alicia: “Yoori may have been in a different Entrance Exam location than us. The 1st Year Rep was actually the same location as ours. That’s why we remember her.”

The Entrance Ceremony.

At the podium, she stood their proudly with a sword to her waist.

Alicia: “She’s a Magic...Swordsman, was it? She must be a really amazing person.”

Igni: “I’m curious if she’s the type that put in the effort or just has a lot of talent.”

Yoori: “What?! That girl, she’s a Magic Swordsman?!?!”

Yoori is quite surprised, but I don’t blame him.

That’s how rare the Magic Swordsman is.

Igni: “Oh, I never asked you. Yoori, what’s your top magic type compatibility?”

Though he’s spent quite some time together at the dorm, Igni didn’t know Yoori’s compatibility type.

Well, he probably ignored it until now because Yoori is a guy, and Igni just didn’t care...

Yoori: “Me? I’m [DARK].”

Igni: “Wh-- really?!”

Alicia: “Is that true?!”

This caught both Igni and Alicia by surprise, and they both look at Yoori.

Yoori: “Uh...y--yeah… I know it’s a little rare…”

Alicia: “A LITTLE RARE?! You’ve got to be kidding me!”

Igni: “Y---yeah. I see. So Yoori is a [DARK] type…”

In general, the [DARK] type wizards are rare.

And that is partly because the traits of the [DARK] type have not been fully understood and are not as consistent unlike the other magic types. It’s not as unusual or as far off out as the unique [ORIGINAL] types, but the abilities of [DARK] wizards differ greatly between each other.

Igni: “So Yoori, what kind of magic are you good at?”Yoori: “Me? It’s mostly Support magic.”

Yoori seemed to hesitate with his answer.

Alicia: “Oh really? What kind of…”

Igni: “What about you, Alicia? What kind of magic are you good at?”

Igni did pick up on Yoori’s cue and decided to not press on the issue.

“An insensitive man will not be popular.”

This isn’t a secret or a rule or anything. This is just common sense.

Alicia: “Me? I’m a [WIND] type so I’m better at attack magic and attack support magic.”

Igni: “You plan to be a Wizard in the future?”

Alicia: “No. I come from a noble’s family, so I won’t be free to decide my future like that.”

Alicia seemed a little frustrated about her situation.

I was trying to avoid an uncomfortable subject, but I managed to step on another landmine.

Yoori: “Oh! Uh… what about you, Igni? What are you good at?”

Igni: “Me? I’m a [FIRE] type so I’m good at [FIREBALL].”

Yoori: “....oh, do you like making jokes with a serious face?”

Trying to change the atmosphere, Yoori swung the question back at Igni, but he didn’t know how to take Igni’s answer.

Igni: “No, I’m really good at [FIREBALL].”

Igni’s face is totally serious, and there is no hint that he is being sarcastic or joking.

“Hahahaha! [FIREBALL]?! Really?! That’s what you’re good at?! I can’t believe a guy like you was able to enroll in this school!”

Suddenly, they hear someone laugh from the side.

But the voice is a guy’s voice. Igni had zero interest and decided to ignore it completely.

“I bet your grades were just barely passing then? Be careful not to get kicked out with your piss poor grades!”

A second one. This one’s a guy too.

Igni: (Strange. If the school is 80% women, why aren’t the girls talking to me…..?)

Igni is super serious in pondering this enigma and tilts his head in thought.

“Hey! Y---YOU!! YOU’RE THAT…!!”

But Igni recognized the 3rd voice.

“What? You know this guy, Sir Edward?”“Yeah I know him! This guy had the nerve to ignore *me during the Entrance Exams!”

{{CHONKY NOTES: Edward addressed himself as “boku”}}

Igni: “.........”

Igni: (You’re a BOKU-guy too?!)

Igni couldn’t help but to point this out inside his head.

Alicia: “Igni, you know him?”

Igni: “Yeah, we ran into each other during the Entrance Exams…”

Igni wanted to forget, but unfortunately, he still remembered.

Igni thought that the guy looked like a spoiled brat from a noble’s family, and he was right on the money with that guess.

The two who were mocking Igni a moment ago were now standing beside Edward and were expressing their discontent and disdain towards Igni.

“So it was you! You’re the commoner who had the nerve to ignore Sir Edward!”

“And aren’t you a [FIRE] : [F] compatibility?! How did you sneak into this school!”

The two goons… or I guess they’re maybe Edward’s servants?

They’re both annoyingly spatting out anything and everything rude that’s coming to their mind.

Igni: “How? What do you mean how? I passed so I’m here.”

Getting involved with these guys would be a huge waste of time.

Igni: (I need to get to the classroom so I can get to know the girl sitting next to me…)

Igni’s heart is always pedal to the metal when it comes to his desires for women.

Edward: “Y----YOU INSOLENT! I can’t allow you to insult me any further!”

Igni: “Uh… what…?”

Edward: “You must have cheated at the Entrance Exam! That’s it! YOU CHEATED!! You wanted to enroll so much that you broke the law to do so!”

Alicia: “Hey! You’re the one being rude! Igni passed the exams fair and square! I watched him do so!”

Alicia intervenes to try to protect Igni.

But at that moment, the school bell went off.

Igni: “Alicia, Yoori, let’s hurry.”

Yoori: “Yeah, let’s.”

Alicia: “I guess it can’t be helped…”

A man who stands out can be popular, but a guy who’s tardy doesn’t necessarily become popular.

So we hurry to the classroom. Fortunately, the teacher has not arrived yet, and it’s free seating.

Igni selects a seat at the edge where it was free, and Yoori sits next to him.

Igni: “Uh...hey….!”

Yoori: “Hm? What’s wrong, Igni?”

Igni: “Uh, no. It’s nothing…”

Igni: (My plans for the girl sitting next to me…)

Alicia: “Then I’ll take the seat in front of Igni!”

And very quickly, Igni’s seat next to him and in front of him get taken by his acquaintances.

Igni: (.....but the seat behind me is still….!”

“Sir Edward, we barely made it on time.”

Edward: “Yes, a tardy on the first day would put a scratch on my family name.”

Igni: (…...YOU GUYS ARE THE SAME CLASS AS US?!?!)

This caught Igni off guard.

Yoori and Alicia visibly showed disdain in their expressions too, and Igni did not miss that.

“Sir Edward, it looks like this seat is open.”

Edward: “Very well, I will sit here for now….HEY! IT’S YOU!!”

Igni: (Don’t sit behind me…!!)

Igni quietly intimidates Edward.

Edward: “It is not like I want to! But this is the only seat open!”

Igni: “....gunununu…” (sfx grinding teeth)

Igni grinds his teeth in frustration.

And without any other choice available, Edward sits behind Igni.

Igni: “GUNUNUNUNUNUNU….!!”

Igni’s teeth grinding escalates.

Edward: “Hey! What is your problem! Do you really not like that I am sitting behind you?!”

************************* CHONKY NOTES

Edward - Men who address themselves as boku. If it’s hard to understand how weird Japanese people feel when they see a teenage boy address themselves as “boku,” it’s about the same as when a person addresses themselves in the 3rd person. It’s puzzling because there is a social stigma for an adolescent male to address himself as a little boy would. Masculinity is subtly but strongly emphasized for Japanese boys and most will shed the “boku” pronoun as soon as they can. Using it can seem weak because proper young boys use boku. The rough boys use “o-re” (俺).
