Fantasy: The Great Emperor Comes Back

Chapter 30

C30 – There Was Something Strange Going on

“How did you come to know about the White Crane Scripture in my family?” Tang Nuolan asked, her curiosity piqued. She couldn’t help but notice that he seemed even more formidable than her father.

”I’ve learned from reading extensively,” Mo Changyou replied.

“And how do you know what the Ancient Heavenly Crane looks like?”

“Again, from reading extensively.”

“What about your extensive knowledge of medicine?”

“The same answer—I’ve read a lot of books.”

Tang Nuolan was at a loss for words.

Ranked among the top three beauties of the Imperial Capital, Tang Nuolan was not used to being treated with such indifference. If the disciples who admired her back in the Imperial Capital were to witness Mo Changyou’s cold demeanor, they would be itching to give him a piece of their mind.

”We should find an Eternal Snow Lotus up ahead.” Mo Changyou said as he surveyed the snow-covered peak and finally set her down.

“Could you be a little more careful?” Tang Nuolan complained, clearly annoyed.

“We’re about to walk on snowy terrain,” Mo Changyou pointed out.

Truth be told, Mo Changyou had only rescued Tang Nuolan because she was a descendant of his former young servant. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have given her a second glance.

His indifferent attitude infuriated Tang Nuolan.

In the Darkness Forest stood a snow-capped mountain, towering over two thousand feet high. While modest in height by the standards of the Cultivation Realm, its elevation still resulted in bitterly cold temperatures.

Before Mo Changyou lay the Ice Lotus Lake.

Beneath the pristine snow, the lake remained unfrozen. At its center bloomed dozens of pink lotuses, each radiating a soft golden glow.

This was the famed Ice Lotus Lake. The ice lotuses released a gentle warmth that kept the waters from freezing, even in the harshest cold.

The lotuses floated serenely at the very heart of the lake, each marked by a subtle purple-red hue at their base—a sign that they had reached a venerable thousand years.

However, the sight of the Eternal Snow Lotus did little to lift Mo Changyou’s spirits.

Guarding the precious lotus was typically the domain of the lake’s apex predator: the Red Blood Crocodile. These red-scaled creatures were fearsome and possessed formidable cultivation levels. Any Red Blood Crocodile tasked with protecting the Eternal Snow Lotus would be at least at Energy Condensation Level 6.

“I hope the Red Blood Crocodile isn’t above Energy Condensation Level 7,” Mo Changyou murmured under his breath, his tone growing serious.

“You came for the Eternal Snow Lotus. You’re only at Energy Condensation Level 4, while the Red Blood Crocodile is at least at Level 6. You should wait for me to recover, then I can help you harvest it,” Tang Nuolan said with a chuckle, noticing Mo Changyou’s interest in the Eternal Snow Lotus.

She realized that Mo Changyou’s visit to the Darkness Forest was specifically to collect the Eternal Snow Lotus.

“Didn’t you notice the golden blood by the lakeside?” Mo Changyou pointed out.

Mo Changyou’s real concern wasn’t the Red Blood Crocodile, but rather what had transpired by the lake.

A swath of golden blood stained the lakeside, causing Tang Nuolan’s face to turn somber.

She recognized the blood as belonging to the Red Blood Crocodile. Did this mean someone had been here but left the Eternal Snow Lotus behind?

“That’s the blood of the Red Blood Crocodile. However, if someone has been here, why didn’t they take the Eternal Snow Lotus with them?” Tang Nuolan pondered aloud, puzzled.

“In the frozen lands, the Red Blood Crocodile’s blood can remain unfrozen for two days due to its bloodline. Since the blood isn’t frozen, it indicates that the Red Blood Crocodile was attacked within the last two days. The absence of any remains in the area suggests that a more fearsome creature devoured the Red Blood Crocodile. This creature wasn’t interested in the Spirit Medicine, but rather in consuming the potent Vitality of a powerful Ferocious Beast,” Mo Changyou explained with a calm yet intense demeanor, revealing the source of his concern.

Mo Changyou had countless strategies for handling the Red Blood Crocodile.

“Are you suggesting that another Ferocious Beast came and devoured the Red Blood Crocodile?” Tang Nuolan found Mo Changyou’s analysis to be quite logical.

“Exactly. It must have consumed the Red Blood Crocodile whole, otherwise there would be evidence of a struggle. It likely expelled the blood while feasting on the Red Blood Crocodile,” Mo Changyou deduced.

Tang Nuolan nodded, impressed by his insight. She glanced at Mo Changyou, recognizing his strategic acumen.

“That powerful Ferocious Beast might still be lurking nearby. We’ll need to tread carefully,” Mo Changyou cautioned.
