Chapter 17: Letter of Invitation
Chapter 17: Letter of Invitation
A few hours ago in Griffin Town in the western part of the kingdom.
Hans was the editor-in-chief of "Monthly Alchemist Griffin". The reason why their journal had such a distinctive name was entirely that at the time of founding the journal, Hans was obsessed with a novel called Monthly Witch Nozaki. He loved the novel so much that he simply registered the journal under the name that shared a similar style. By the time he regretted it, it was already too late.
With this questionable name, the fate of this journal was sealed. Sales could not increase, there were only a very few writers. Every month approached publication day, Hans had to rack his brain to get people to write articles for the journal. It could be said that he was exhausted physically and mentally.
It was the middle of the month now, so Hans wasn't that worried. But amongst the papers published this month, there were only three papers that could be considered as new. Most of the rest were repetitive confirmatory papers. In many cases, such papers were just changing a substance to carry out the same experiment. There was no innovative meaning, and it was just repetitive work.
"Sign."
Just when Hans sighed and felt helpless, the teleportation circle on the desk flickered, and a paper with a note appeared there.
"Huh? What is this?"
Hans picked up the paper first, the title on it was very long but very clear.
"Discussion on Special Gas Produced in Grey Stone Heating Experiment and Research on Several Issues of Traditional Combustion Reaction Theory".
As soon as he saw this title, Hans felt a throb in his heart and realized the significance behind it.
He picked up the note again, couldn't help but smile at the familiar text.

"Hehe, this guy, he never speaks his heart."
The content on the note was very short, and it was to ask Hans to send an article invitation letter to the author of this paper. But the letter was from Angeli, a friend who did not support Hans to set up an academic journal.
Although he said that there was no future to run a periodical academic journal, whenever Hans was having difficulties getting the articles, he would send a few papers to help him out. Then some kind of tacit understanding was formed between the two.
"I remember that Angeli seems to be serving as a reviewer recently, so was this the paper reviewed by him?"
In doubt, Hans opened the paper.
Many years later, when Hans was interviewed and asked what he felt when he saw the paper for the first time, he could clearly recall that in that leisurely afternoon, the shock he felt was no less than the shock of his first contact with magic.
Time passed quickly, and an hour later, Hans closed the paper. He did not do the verification experiment, because Angeli's note was the best proof.
If Angeli had not personally verified it, he would not recommend this paper to Hans.
"Then the author is... Reiner Ian Gray?"
Hans was a little dazed. 'Isn't the Ian Gray family a very wealthy family? Since when did they start to do academic work?'
Putting this doubt aside, Hans found the contact address at the end of the paper.
"Luna Nova Magical Academy? If I remember it correctly, it seems to be a magical girls' academy in a nearby province. Strange... Do they have boys in the school now?"
Hans subconsciously thought that Reiner was a student of Luna Nova Magical Academy. He still remembered that Luna Nova Magical Academy was a relatively famous magical academy in the old days, but it was not famous for the quality of teaching, but that it only accepted girls. Everyone, including professors, principals, and even dormitory administrators, was all females. It was an academy that countless boys fantasized about in the past.
He was willing to admit that when he was an ignorant student, he had also imagined that he would come to Luna Nova Magical Academy for some special reason, and become the only male student among countless girls.
Shaking his head, Hans hurriedly found a piece of parchment, picked up the quill pen, and began to write the invitation letter. Then he handed it to an owl to send it out. If everything went well, it should be delivered to Luna Nova Magical Academy this evening.
"I can only hope that others haven't noticed this paper."
Hans muttered to himself, watching the owl disappear to the other side of the horizon in the setting sun in the afternoon.
......
While Hans' owl was still flying in the sky and headed towards Luna Nova Magical Academy, at the Rainbow Tower, thousands of miles away, Kanon sat in his office, seemingly waiting for something.
Knock, knock...
There was a knock on the door, and then a slightly thin old man walked in.
The old man had sparse hair, but his eyes were as sharp as an eagle. He wore a loose robe with the cuffs having six glittering stripes, which was the symbol of the sixth-ring mage.
The sixth-ring mage was already the peak of the middle-level mage, and further up, there were those high-level mages who would be called "Excellency".
"Kanon, where is the paper?"
The other party didn't greet him and asked directly.
"Here, Professor Fleming."
Kanon hurriedly stood up, gave up his seat, and handed the paper to the old man respectfully.
The old man called Fleming sat down and opened the paper.
Kanon was a little nervous, sweating in his palms, worried that his teacher would suffer a magical backlash. After all, Fleming was a master in the field of alchemy. He had made many achievements under the theory of Master Hornheim, but he was also someone who believed in modern alchemy theories. So when facing this kind of thesis, Kannon didn't know how he would react.
However, Fleming was much calmer than Kanon expected. After turning the last page, the old mage let out a sigh of relief and then asked.
"You have done a verification experiment, are you sure it is correct?"
"Yes, Professor, but I don't know if it's..."
Before Kanon finished speaking, Fleming interrupted him by raising his hand.
"In fact, a few of us have been exploring this issue."
Kanon was stunned by Fleming's words.
Has his teacher been trying to overthrow the combustion theory?
"His Excellency Hornheim's fire element combustion theory is great, but it can't explain many problems. For this reason, several mages of our Mercury Balance have put forward many conjectures and hypotheses, but they have not been confirmed."
Fleming said lightly.
"For example, the mass after combustion increases. We now usually think that the fire element has a negative mass, so the mass of the object will increase when it loses the fire element."
Glancing at the paper, Fleming went on to explain.
"Like the experiment in this paper, combustion actually absorbs the fire element into the Grey Stone, so the mass of the Grey Stone will decrease after it becomes White Stone. In terms of the extra special gas, it should be the air after losing the fire element. Only that could explain why it caused the combustion to stop. We will publish this theoretical paper in this issue of "Alchemy." So it is normal that this author doesn't know about it."
"So that is why. Professor, you are a truly wise mage."
Hearing Fleming's explanation, Kanon immediately felt enlightened, and the cloud of concerns that had previously hung over his head suddenly disappeared.
Only Fleming glanced at the author of the paper again, frowning slightly
