Chapter 222: Rescue Attempt
Chapter 222: Rescue Attempt
The majestic covering of the Quetzalcoatl gradually turned into a dead grayish color as it was infected by the Flying Meatpiles. One by one, its scales died off as it groaned in excruciating pain.
I shudder to think what would happen if they bit a regular human since the spread of the virus on the Quetzalcoatl was quick. If I were to be bitten by those cursed rabid humans, I would probably instantly revert back to being a mindless rabid human.
For some reason, that thought alone made me feel useless. Even if I were to swoop in and try to help the Quetzalcoatl, I know that I'd be doing so at the expense of my own life. It's a guaranteed death for me since those Flying Meatpiles were much faster than me. And even if I were to use my Time Element, they would probably still be able to catch up, judging from how fast they were. What monstrosity, how could anyone think of creating such a thing?
But, glancing towards my back, I immediately recognized the hopeful stares of the inhabitants of the Sky Kingdom. Some were clasping their hands while some were biting their lips until it bled. They were desperately awaiting a miracle while having the very same thoughts I was having. I don't blame them though. They've grown in terms of cultivation while being semi-secluded from the world. Even if they try to fend off the Flying Meatpile Rabid Human, they wouldn't be able to do it.
"Mae and Sir Conrad aren't here as well. If only they were here... no, I shouldn't pass the blame to anyone. If I can do something, I should do it right now. But how? How can I help such a large beast?" Once again, I looked up and saw that the Quetzalcoatl was already on the verge of dying.
No, no, even if I decided to help him, I wouldn't have enough Qi Energy to cure such a large beast. It's probably twice the mass of the entire Sky Kingdom itself. My Five Qi Cores wouldn't be able to do a thing.
And then it happened.
As the Flying Meatpile Rabid Humans let out a terrifying and bloodcurdling screech, they dropped the Quetzalcoatl, confident that he would turn into a rabid human in less than a minute. They've injected enough virus on him that there's no chance of survival for him. Helplessly, the Quetzalcoatl dangled as he fell to the ground. His eyes fluttered, a signal that he was on the verge of losing his consciousness.

"No! You can't! If you lose consciousness now, you'll really turn into a rabid human!" I tried to scream but I didn't want to bother the celebrating Flying Meatpiles.
With its remaining ounces of strength, the Quetzalcoatl tilted his head and locked his eyes straight into mine. In an instant, I felt a mixture of emotions welling up inside me they were that of anger, frustration, revenge, regret, and sadness, all at the same time. I concluded that it was probably the Quetzalcoatl, projecting his sentiment into my mind, making me feel guilty.
And with that, the Quetzalcoatl continued falling to the ground, onto the Lower Middle Plane. Good ridda
Nope! Oh carp, that pleading sure made me feel guilty.
Before the Quetzalcoatl hit the ground with a definite thud, I used my Space Element and caught it mid-air. I immediately felt my Qi Energy draining at a rapid pace as I gently lowered the Mythical Beast on the ground. One thing I realized after fighting countless rabid humans was that those who had more damage to their bodies were more powerful. I don't know how that works so I just assumed that the more wounds someone has, the faster the spread of the virus in their System is.
And so, I knew I had to catch the Quetzalcoatl no matter what. Any more damage and he might very well be the root cause of the destruction of the Sky Kingdom. Hopefully not!
Once I carefully set him on the ground, I used my Wind Element to lower myself on the ground and to cover my whole body just so the Flying MEatpiles wouldn't detect my body temperature nor any movements coming from the Sky Kingdom. I also encapsulated myself inside a thin layer of Qi Energy to be as stealthy as possible. Somehow, it worked... or maybe the Flying Meatpiles were too elated with how they brought down a Mythical Beast that they celebrated too much.
Once I landed on the ground, I could hear the Quetzalcoatl growling underneath its breath as it tried to remain awake. Once again, with all his remaining strength, he lifted his head with great difficulty and stared into my eyes. Its eyes had a deathly color to it, but I know that somewhere deep within his being, he's still struggling to survive.
"Hey, buddy. You all right?" I asked.
"Of course not." The Quetzalcoatl answered but it didn't open its mouth, it spoke directly into my mind.
And somehow... it has the voice of a girl?! So it's a girl all along?!
Clearing my throat, I cautiously approached the Quetzalcoatl. "I'll try to get rid of the virus in your body. So please hold still."
"Virus? You mean I'm sick?"
"You don't feel well, right? I'll try to make you feel better." I said, and as soon as those words came out of my mouth, I knew that I worded it quite wrong.
Fortunately, the Quetzalcoatl was so out of it that she didn't mind what I just said. Without further ado, I leaned in front of its head and covered myself with another layer of Qi Energy, that way the Flying Meatpiles won't be able to sense nor see me. Hopefully, my cover will last until I finished healing this huge Mythical Beast.
"I knew you'd help me. One look and I know that you're the one." The Quetzalcoatl muttered.
"Don't talk too much, you'll expend more energy if you do so," I advised. I then activated my Holy Qi Core and my Fiery Qi Core. After all, both the Holy and Fire Element has a healing attribute in them.
"Now, let's begin. Just hang on for a little bit." I gritted my teeth.
<Notice: the Flying Meatpiles have detected your presence. It's best if you get out of here>
<Notice: they're coming straight at us>
"Well, that's very encouraging. Thank you so much for the heads up, System."
