Chapter 48
48 Kiss Vs Kill
“HAH!!” Yang Ning bolted when she snapped her eyes open in startle and regained her consciousness. Her hands were still trembling when she remembered how she almost died by drowning in the deep lake.
She wanted to die and return to her world but when she jumped into the cold water, she realized that she is still not ready to sacrifice her life for the sake of a 50-50 possibility of returning to her world, alive.
However, it was too late for her to regret her decision and back out from it. Because despite her wanting to swim to the shores and struggles, this weak body of Yang Ning didn’t comply with her brain’s commands.
Not only did Yang Ning not know how to swim, but also her long and heavy skirt was one of the major reasons for her not being able to swim to the shore of the lake as well.
She still remembers how scary and strangely tranquil it was when her body was sinking to the bottom of the lake and she was feeling as light as a feather.
The lake looked beautiful from the surface but when you go deeper, it becomes dark and frightening. The suffocating tranquilness of the lake makes you feel as if everything is soon coming to an end.

Yang Ning’s forehead was covered in sweat beads and was panting heavily to inhale more oxygen as she was feeling suffocated and nauseous.
After taking a few deep breaths, she started to feel better and her irregular heartbeat became stable.
.....
As soon as she opened her eyes, she was hoping to see the white ceiling of her dorm room which she was going to leave soon.

However, rather than that, what came into her sight was the familiar ceiling which was made of sandstone bricks.
She bit her lower lip as tears welled up in her eyes in helplessness. What a shitty fate she has!
‘So she is back to square one now?’ She wanted to scream in frustration but she doesn’t even have the energy to do so.
‘Why are all the unfortunate things happening to her?’ She wondered.
Firstly, her gold medal was taken away from her and she was accused falsely of attempting to consume the banned drugs by her closest friend.
She was also kicked out of the team, turning her into a clown in front of the public, who were assuming her to be the problematic one and were questioning her abilities and all of her achievements.
Not only that, but even in this novel world, she woke up as the Villainous Empress who will die at the hands of her husband after a year.
It’s as if bad luck is following her around like her shadow. Otherwise, how can she end up in a worse situation only?
“Milady, Are you awake now?” The tiniest bit of her hope shattered when she heard the voice of worried Xiaowei who was coming running to her while carrying a tray in her hands.
Xiaowei walked to Yang Ning in large strides and put down the tray that she was holding on the small, circular table by the bedside before helping Yang Ning to sit on the bed.
Yang Ning also grabbed Xiaowei’s sleeves for support as she was still feeling extremely weak and tired. She groaned exhaustingly when Xiaowei arranged the cushions behind her back for support and rested her back against the soft cushions.
“Xiaowei, did you save me earlier? I remember drowning in the lake but have no memories about what happened afterward.” Yang Ning asked while sipping on the warm water that Xiaowei got for her.
Xiaowei, who was adjusting Yang Ning’s blanket, froze upon hearing her question. She pursed her lips and looked at her hesitantly before saying, ” Milady, are you sure you do not remember anything?”
Yang Ning raised her brows at her in confusion and shook her head. Has she forgotten something important?
Xiaowei cleared her throat and said, “Milady, You have been unconscious for the whole day. The incident you’re speaking about occurred yesterday.”
Yang Ning was speechless when she found out that she has been sleeping since yesterday. However, to her, it feels as if it happened only in the morning.
” Milady, although I would have jumped into the lake to save you despite not knowing how to swim, it wasn’t me who saved you from drowning. It was the Crown Princess.”
“He not only jumped into the lake but also gave you....the first aid to save you.” Xiaowei’s cheeks blushed in embarrassment when she filled Yang Ning with the details that she had forgotten about.
When she reached the lakeside after buying the steamed buns that Yang Ning had asked for, she was shocked to see Zheng Liang giving Yang Ning mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to save her while Gu Lan had his back to them.
She was shocked to see Yang Ning drenched in water and in an unconscious state, but she was even more shocked to see what the Crown Prince was doing to her innocent and naive lady.
She wanted to tell Yang Ning about it but couldn’t bring it to her mouth. It’s embarrassing.
Yang Ning is soon going to be his princess consort. It’s not wrong or immoral in any way. He only did it to save her after all.
It’s nothing wrong.
Not at all. She convinced her maiden heart and eventually calmed down.
__
” The Crown Prince?” Yang Ning exclaims in surprise when she finds out that it was Zheng Liang who saved her from drowning.
In the novel, he is the one who kills her in the end but here, he was the one who saved her and gave her a new life.
What an irony.
” Yes. Not only did he save you from drowning, but also carried you to the Yang Household.” Xiaowei said.
“WHAT? HE DID WHAT?” Yang Ning’s eyes widened in shock when she heard the additional information given by Xiaowei.
Why did he do that?
He has so many guards who follow him around. Can’t he simply order them to do so? Why would the Crown Prince carry her himself to the Yang Household? She wondered.
She was still having a hard time accepting that the Crown Prince and members of the royal family are also just a human like her and not someone who belongs to the magical realm world.
” Since you were unconscious and weren’t waking up, he held you in his arms and brought you to the Yang Household on his horse. Not only that, but he also asked the Head Physician from the Imperial Medicine Department to treat you.” Xiaowei told Yang Ning about how the Crown Prince took care of her, while Chang Ah and the Lord Yang Luoyang were ready to berate her for coming back in such an embarrassing state.
Yang Ning was lost in deep thought when she heard Xiaowei’s question, “Milady, what happened to you yesterday when I was not around? How did you fall into the lake? Do you know how worried I was to see you in such a miserable condition? You are not well yet, how can you go near the lake?”
Yang Ning coughed on the warm water that she was drinking and took the napkin from Xiaowei to wipe her mouth. “I....wasn’t trying to jump into the lake. I was simply admiring the clean water of the lake and was washing my face with the cold water when I slipped and fell into the water.”
” It wasn’t my intention to bother anyone. I am sorry.” Yang Ning said while pouting her lips, feeling sad for troubling everyone. Xiaowei’s tired expressions were telling her how worried she was about her and she must have spent the whole night taking care of her.
However, she was trying to hide her real intent by acting cute because she cannot afford Xiaowei to doubt her about it.
If she were to find out that she is not the real Yang Ning but an imposter who is pretending to be her, she must be upset about it.
How can she tell her that it wasn’t a mistake but she was trying to take her life by jumping into the deep lake?
She does not want to lose a friend who has taken care of her even in the worst situation possible.
