Inside The Black Mist

Chapter 28 - Special Mission

Inside the armored cockpit, aided by the built-in program, the driver was looking for the leader of the mad dogs on the screen.

When the devil-like figure appeared on the screen, the driver couldn't help but inhale sharply. Even though it was just an image, that evil aura felt suffocating. Who knows what had happened in the Inverse Universe to give rise to these nightmares crawling out of the abyss!

Aimed at the lead dog, the driver pressed the fire button.

In the distance, the lead dog that was issuing a new command suddenly perked up its two pointed ears.

Then, the strange face turned towards the direction of the human defensive line, he saw a dim light ignited the dark, followed by a deep howl resonating through the battlefield!

Almost in an instant after seeing the light, the lead dog leaped away from its original position and sprinted with all its might while bellowing repeatedly.

More than a dozen mad dogs dashed forward, charging in the opposite direction of the lead dog, leaping towards the light that traversed the battlefield.

Explosions rang out!

The orange flames engulfed the mad dogs in an instant, and the flames and shockwaves swept the surroundings. The sprinting lead dog was suddenly thrown out. A lighter-colored yet still scorching flame wrapped around it.

But the lead dog quickly pounced out of the flames, swiftly rolling on the ground to extinguish any remaining fire.

Though there were traces of smoke rising from its body and even a few burns, for the lead dog, these injuries were nothing.

"Damn it!"

The bald lady, who saw this scene through the telescope, almost smashed the telescope into pieces. The bomb she fired earlier was intercepted and detonated by the mad dogs before reaching the designated location, causing the lead dog to escape the most powerful blast zone.

The peripheral shockwaves and flames inflicted minimal damage on it.

That thing was surprisingly cunning and crafty.

Lida contacted the driver again, "What other weapons do you have there?"

The driver smiled bitterly and replied, "Commander, the heavy-duty model is not proficient in precise strikes. You should leave that to the marksmen."

Lida glanced in the direction of the spherical building and said, "If the marksmen were here, would I be so troubled? Forget it..."

She shouted loudly, "Don we have any Level 3 Hunters here?"

In the hierarchy of Hunters, Level 3 was a sniper master, possessing the abilities that the commander currently needed.

Unfortunately, most of the Hunters here were only Level 1 or Level 2.

"Zhou Wang! What's the maximum range of your elemental throwing spear?" With no response from anyone, the bald lady had no choice but to look towards the "Firepower Specialist" in her own squad.

The arrogant young man who wanted to show off to Xun couldn't be proud at this moment. "Captain, even if my elemental throwing spear can reach a farther distance, it won't be able to hit something 800 meters away. Besides, you need precise hits..."

Lida held her bald head in her hands. "Are we doomed to be passive here? I refuse to accept it..."

"Wait, maybe we need an assassin."

Lida picked up the communicator and tuned it to a corresponding private channel. "Tianyang, your name is Tianyang, right? I'm the commander, and I need you to do something."

A quick response came from Tianyang through the communicator, "Understood. What is it?"

............

Tianyang lay on the ground, uncomfortable with the hard gravel scattered around.

But for an explorer in the Inverse Universe, comfort was a privilege reserved for the dead. Tianyang didn't want to die so soon, so he didn't mind the sensation of the gravel pressing against his chest.

After confirming the absence of any traces of mad dogs ahead, he moved silently like a ghost, utilizing cover from trees, wrecked cars, streetlights, and other objects.

Assassin in Avenger Level 1, is a new level. Not even mentioning the Sky Tower, even the super fortress cities like Splendorous Fort would lack detailed information about them.

So Tianyang needed to personally experience and grasp the characteristics and tendencies of each level.

Now, Tianyang felt that the Assassin level must possess abilities in speed and stealth. Otherwise, he wouldn't have been able to quietly bypass most of the main battlefield, advancing towards his target under the sporadic surveillance of a few mad dogs at the edge of the battlefield.

Lida gave him a nearly crazy task: assassinate the leader of the mad dogs!

The commander promised that if he could complete this mission, he would receive 500 contribution points.

Tianyang agreed, driven by the nature of a soldier, and he also wanted to test his own level abilities.

When acting alone, he could be more unrestrained and his actions could be more precise.

Moreover, despite the mission sounded crazy, Lida had made thorough preparations for him.

One of them was spraying Tianyang with a refinement mist extracted from the bodily fluids of several dark creatures.

The smell of it was suffocating with just one whiff.

However, the spray had a clear effect—it deceived the heightened sense of smell of the mad dogs. Several times, those monsters passed by not far from Tianyang, mistaking him for one of their kind or some other dark creature.

In this way, Tianyang moved forward silently, almost instinctively, allowing himself to blend with the surrounding environment when in motion.

After a moment, he saw the lead dog. Despite the commander's description, Tianyang still had the urge to vomit when he actually saw this evil creature. The Inverse Universe is truly a terrifying place. Tianyang reaffirmed this in his heart once again.

The young man didn't act hastily. Around the lead dog, there were more than a dozen mad dogs moving about. Acting recklessly could result in a failed mission and even cost him his life.

Moreover, the cages of the other mad dogs were located beneath their skull. But Tianyang couldn't be certain if the lead dog was the same.

As he stared at the evil figure, Tianyang observed it, hoping to find its weakness.

When his gaze fell upon the abdomen protected by rib bones, the young man had a sudden realization. The rib bones and belly of the lead dog faded in his eyes, revealing an organ resembling a placenta that emitted a faint yellow light.

The Will Cage!

Tianyang snapped back to reality, and what he saw in his line of sight were still rib bones and belly.

But he was certain that the lead dog's Will Cage was inside its stomach!

The young man made an effort to recall the scene from earlier, calculating the location of the cage and deducing the process of his attack in his mind.

Time passed gradually.

At this moment, the lead dog looked towards the direction of the defensive line and let out a long howl. Upon hearing the call, all the surrounding mad dogs dashed forward.

It was the signal for a full-scale attack. Under the relentless waves of the canine horde, the defense line of the convoy was nearing its limit.

Naturally, the lead dog wouldn't miss this opportunity and sent out all the mad dogs it could spare into the battlefield.

As for itself, it cunningly stayed in the rear.

However, it didn't anticipate that the rear might not be safe.

After the guards left, Tianyang knew his chance had come.

The young man held nothing back as the activity of his star energy instantly peaked. Faint light floated spontaneously, and his silver-gray hair slightly levitated as Tianyang disappeared from his original position.

The lead dog seemed to sense something and didn't waste any time looking back. It suddenly curled up its body, while the ribs on both sides of its abdomen spread open, seemingly trying to protect its entire body from the incoming attack.

However, this tactic only emerged in its mind when a pitch-black battle knife pierced out from the void, precisely piercing through two ribs and penetrating the tough belly. It delved deep into its body, piercing through the placenta-like organ.

The belly of the lead dog suddenly lit up with a bright yellow light, which quickly faded away. It remained motionless, curled up in its position.

Subsequently, the flesh rapidly decayed, leaving only the intact ribs and two preserved eyeballs.

Everything else, including the Will Cage, turned into a pool of black mud.

It was only at this moment that Tianyang's figure appeared in the air like a phantom, transitioning from ethereal to solid.
