Little Miss Witch: Revenge of the Tainted Angel

Chapter 39 - Confession (1)

It wasn't until the next day when Li Xiuying phoned her twin sister who'd been worried about the lack of response on her calls and messages. After Shen Zichen dropped her home before dawn, Li Xiuying had slept the whole day and didn't leave for work. Song Zexi and Su Ling were relieved when they received a call from Shen Zichen informing that she was home, safe and unharmed.

"Miss, I've cooked some of your favorites. You must be hungry."

When Li Xiuying woke up from her long slumber, she found several dishes waiting for her at the dining table. Her stomach growled in response. She hadn't had a decent meal since yesterday and she was now starving. She thanked Song Zexi for her efforts, knowing that she was trying to cheer her up while Su Ling updated her with the progress of investigation within the company.

"How long will it take before they could get conclusive evidence to pin my traitorous husband for his crimes?" Li Xiuying asked Su Ling with interest.

"They said it would take some time but will assure that we'll be able to put him behind bars once they are done. The amount he embezzled from the company was quite huge. We believe he has a few accomplices within the company who's helping him cover his tracks." Su Ling didn't dare to sugarcoat his report.

Hadn't Mu Jianyu thought that the only person who could protect him from the Li family was Li Xiuying herself? If it wasn't for her, he would have already been kicked to the curb and he would find his sorry ass behind bars. He must be really dumb and idiotic to think that he could get away with his sins easily. Breaking their Miss's heart was one thing. Stealing from the company was shooting his own foot. He had no one to blame later but himself once the investigation was done.

"Miss, I think you need to call back Miss Chuntao…" Song Zexi reminded her. "Your phone was ringing nonstop since this morning."

They were her bodyguard, yes, but Song Zexi and Su Ling were forbidden to touch any personal things owned by their masters. The ringing only stopped when Su Ling messaged their Miss Chuntao to inform that Ying was sleeping and couldn't answer her phone.

"Ah!" Li Xiuying exclaimed. How come she had forgotten that she was supposed to talk with Chuntao last night?! Her twin sister must be worried to death by now.

She immediately finished her meal, thanked Song Zexi again, and ran back towards her room. She could hear the gasp from her bodyguard and the reminder for her not to run in her delicate condition.

Li Xiuying was glad that she was surrounded by people who really loved and cared for her.

She didn't waste time and dialed Chuntao's number on her phone and paced around her room nervously. She bit her nail, knowing that a round of chiding would be coming her way from her sister.

"Ying!" Chuntao answered her call at the third ring. Thank goodness, Song Zexi told her about Chuntao's call or she might've totally forgotten about it. "You dare to call me this time?! Didn't I tell you to wait for my call last night?!"

"Tutut… This isn't Li Xiuying. This is your bank credit card agent. We wish to inform you that you've exceeded your card's limit." Li Xiuying clicked her tongue, imagining how annoyed her twin sister looked at the moment.

"Limit my ass! My card has no spending limit!" Li Chuntao snorted unladylike at the other end of the line, hiding her concern over her sister's wellbeing.

"Ah, I forgot. Sorry. Sorry. I forgot that you've managed to convince Uncle Yuren to give you the most well-known 'black credit card' out there when he wouldn't allow me to get one."

The card itself was made of titanium that is was noticeably different from the plastic used in most credit cards. Only a few members of the high-class society were able to get it with perks that were far beyond the regular cardholders. A person with the legendary black card was capable of closing the whole store just so they can shop alone.

"Silly, CEO Li, That's because you don't need one." Li Chuntao said in defense. Kidding aside, it was time to talk about the issue that Li Xiuying had been avoiding to tell her for the past three months. "Anyway, would you mind telling me now what's going on, or do I have to book the earliest flight I could get so I can hear it from your own lips?"

"Well… I was about to tell you that but you beat me to it."

"How long do you plan to keep it from me anyway? Ying, I couldn't say I'm not disappointed with you. We're sisters. How could you keep me in the dark when something wrong is happening to you?"

They were identical twins and shared a particularly intense bond. They were as close as two people can be. If someone asked them what was the best part about being a twin? The answer that person would get, often said in unison, by them was "It's like having a built-in best friend for life."

They have an extreme level of closeness and understanding that some people may not be able to understand but that was alright. For Ying and Chuntao, it didn't matter as long as they had each other, they didn't need another person to understand them. A lot of what goes on between them was implicit and unspoken; often they do know what the twin was feeling without having to ask or explain.

"Alright," Li Xiuying conceded. She cannot really hide it from Chuntao for too long. It was either she tell her or Chuntao would terrorize another person to get what she wanted.. "…but promise me you will hear me out first and listen to what I'll say."
