Chapter 202
Chapter 202
Ren Nanying’s arm was pressed against Jun Zishu’s arm, the two of them sleeping in a very disciplined manner.
Ren Nanying felt that she must’ve slept too much during the day as she couldn’t fall asleep right now at all, her eyes remaining wide open as she stared at the ceiling.
The atmosphere in this dormitory was completely different from her own. Despite having arrived here not long ago, she could feel that this dormitory was very warm and harmonious.
The several girls living here probably paid a lot of attention to their nest. Each had their favorite wallpapers and photos posted on the walls beside their beds. In Jun Zishu’s case, she had a big poster of a European ballet dancer.
“Can’t sleep?” Jun Zishu asked when she noticed that Ren Nanying’s eyes remained open.
“I might have slept too much during the day.”
“Do you want to read a book?”
“No.”
Ren Nanying huffed. She had no interest in joining the lunatics in the study army.
“Play with your phone, then. Enjoy it while we still have electricity.”
Discussions were still going on online as people who were temporarily safe communicated.
By now, the country’s government had also issued a statement, saying that there was an unknown virus spreading worldwide and that all countries had entered a state of high alert. Meanwhile, the general public was advised to stay safe and avoid going out to get attacked by those infected.
Unfortunately, that was everything the government had to say…
Ren Nanying managed to contact her close friends, and she couldn’t help but feel relieved when she learned that they were safe.
Jun Zishu was calmly watching the movie she had downloaded earlier. When Ren Nanying saw the changing colors on Jun Zishu’s phone, she leaned over out of curiosity.
“What are you watching?”
“A zombie movie.”
You’re watching a zombie movie when there’s already a bunch of zombies outside?! Ren Nanying mentally retorted. At this point, she was certain that her cousin was the most abnormal person out of everyone in this room. At the same time, she couldn’t help but acknowledge that Jun Zishu had a strong mentality.
“Can’t you watch a different movie?”
“Know thy enemy and know yourself; in a hundred battles, you will never be defeated.”

Ren Nanying had no words to respond with.
After arriving in this dorm, Ren Nanying found that the number of times she had been rendered speechless had skyrocketed. She simply didn’t know what to say in regards to this dormitory’s residents. All four of them were crazy.
Subsequently, time passed little by little. Although the room was silent, the faint lights coming from all four beds showed that none of the room’s occupants were sleeping.
Suddenly, the lights coming from outside the balcony disappeared, and a deeper darkness enveloped the room.
This situation caught Liu Manman by surprise, and she couldn’t help but let out a startled cry.
“What’s going on?”
“Have you never seen a lights-out before? It’s eleven o’clock already,” Jun Zishu calmly said as she looked at the time.
“Huh? It’s already the end of the world, yet the school is still enforcing lights-out?”
“It’s automated. It’ll probably continue this way so long as the power doesn’t cut off,” Lin Su said softly.
Their university enforced a strict lights-up and lights-out policy at 6 AM and 11 PM, respectively, and neither rain nor shine would affect this policy in the slightest. In the case of electricity, though, it was available all day long.
The sudden darkness caused everyone to panic for a moment, and they couldn’t help but hug their blankets tightly.
Lin Su would turn on her desk lamp to light up the room whenever the lights outside went off in the past. However, she dared not do so today for fear of attracting the zombies outside. Even if the door was shut and the curtains were drawn, she still couldn’t help but feel scared.
This would be everyone’s first night in the apocalypse, so everyone more or less had trouble sleeping.
Of course, Jun Zishu was an exception.
When Ren Nanying heard the faint breathing sounds coming from the girl beside her, she had an urge to kneel and worship her. After all, wasn’t this girl a little too calm? Although Ren Nanying had always thought she had a strong mentality, she paled significantly compared to Jun Zishu.
Emotions were very contagious. If a person in a crowd was feeling afraid, this person would gradually affect others around them. This was also the case for positive emotions.
Jun Zishu’s abnormal calmness had caused the others in Room 412 to feel calm as well. When Ren Nanying stayed in this calm environment, she unexpectedly had the feeling that the zombie apocalypse wasn’t a big problem.
Meanwhile, seeing Jun Zishu sleeping so soundly, Ren Nanying also closed her eyes and fell asleep.
…
The next day, the lights outside came back on at six o’clock.
Everyone opened their eyes almost simultaneously, except for Jun Zishu. Other than Jun Zishu, everyone else didn’t get a good sleep the entire night.
When Ren Nanying woke up and found one of her arms wrapped around Jun Zishu’s waist, she couldn’t help but recall the dream she dreamt last night.
She dreamt of herself hugging a cloud. The cloud was moving around and trying to float out of her arms, so she kept chasing and holding it in her arms tightly.
Don’t tell me…
Ren Nanying covered her face and silently removed her arm. While doing so, her fingers slid across Jun Zishu’s bare skin.
It’s so soft and smooth… Ren Nanying thought to herself, feeling as if girls who danced possessed soft, slim waists that would break at the slightest touch. However, she quickly shook these nonsensical thoughts out of her head.
“My phone isn’t getting any signal…” Lin Su said as she raised her phone and wiggled it around.
“Me neither…”
“My calls aren’t getting out.”
“What should we do?”
They could stay calm yesterday because they could still contact their parents. However, now that they’ve lost their phone signal, their phones have suddenly turned into a cold little brick.
The sudden commotion woke Jun Zishu up, and she promptly opened her eyes.
Jun Zishu: What’s wrong?
Lin Su: There’s no signal.
Jun Zishu: Can you still listen to your English exercises?
Lin Su: Yes. I downloaded them yesterday.
Jun Zishu: There’s no problem, then. I’m going back to sleep.
Lin Su: Huh? Hey! What’s the use of doing exercises now?!
Jun Zishu: They are your mental support. You must always remember all the effort you’ve put in for your Band 8. You still haven’t taken the test, so you cannot die.
Lin Su: ……
Liu Manman: It was a windy day that day. Lin Su left peacefully with her Band 8 test in hand.
Lin Su: Scram!!!
Jun Zishu lied back down and continued sleeping.
Seeing this, Ren Nanying felt that this was the peak performance of a laid-back person.
In reality, though, Jun Zishu wasn’t being laid back. Her mission was to ensure Ren Nanying’s safety. So long as Ren Nanying was by her side, there was nothing she needed to worry about.
When Jun Zishu woke up again later, she put on her clothes and got out of bed. Then, when she looked at the map in her mind, she noticed eight red dots in the corridor outside. These new additions were probably zombies that had come down from upstairs or zombies that had managed to break out of their rooms.
There was still a bit of water left in the basin, so Jun Zishu used it to wash up. Then, she hung the towel to dry and walked up to the dressing mirror to apply some moisturizer on her face.
Ren Nanying: What is she doing?
Lin Su: Applying moisturizer.
Liu Manman: Isn’t that obvious? Have you never used one before?
Ren Nanying: No, but…
Xu Qiu: But it’s the apocalypse right now? But the zombies haven’t broken in yet.
Ren Nanying: Why are you still in the mood to apply moisturizer at this time?! Do you want to put makeup on as well?!
Jun Zishu: I’ll pass on the makeup. Sorry, but we girls from the Dance Department are delicate, so we have to care for our skin.
If the situation allowed for it, Jun Zishu would try to make herself look as pristine as possible. This was because she had been taught from childhood that she needed to maintain her elegance no matter what.
After moisturizing her face, Jun Zishu turned her neck, bent and twisted her waist, and stretched her ligaments. Although Jun Zishu was no longer a young girl inside, her body was that of a young girl. So, she needed to make sure that her tall and well-proportioned body stayed that way.
Exasperated by her cousin’s actions, Ren Nanying walked up to the balcony and looked outside.
The sun had long risen and poured its light across the land. Unfortunately, Ren Nanying failed to feel any warmth from it when she looked at the zombies wandering around the eerily silent campus.
Turning to her side, Ren Nanying saw Jun Zishu pressing her legs against the shimmering light, the girl’s expression looking neither happy nor sad. When she saw how Jun Zishu stretched her legs using the balcony railing, Ren Nanying couldn’t help but think for a moment that she wasn’t in a dormitory but a dance studio with mirrors instead.
She must look like an angel when she dances, Ren Nanying thought to herself.
Everyone had a simple meal for breakfast. Lin Su shared her large cache of milk with everyone, each person receiving a small carton.
After breakfast, Lin Su put on her earphones and did her English exercises, Liu Manman read her novels, Xu Qiu watched a movie, and Jun Zishu stretched her body.
Ren Nanying, Room 412’s newest member, had no idea what she should do, so she simply sat on a chair. Then, she picked up a pencil and paper from Jun Zishu’s desk and started drawing. Meanwhile, the inspiration for her drawing was naturally the girl practicing dance moves in front of her.
After a few strokes of the pencil, Ren Nanying created a basic outline of a human figure. Then, she began drawing in earnest while lifting her head to look at Jun Zishu from time to time.
Everyone was doing their own thing. For a while, the atmosphere in the room was incredibly harmonious.
However, before noon had arrived, the sound of someone urgently knocking on the door startled everyone in Room 412.
“Save me! Please open up!” a voice followed the knocking sounds.
Jun Zishu checked her map and saw a blue dot outside the room.
The harsh cry for help caused everyone’s heart to seize up. Quickly, Jun Zishu opened the door, and a figure stumbled into the room. Then, Jun Zishu promptly closed the door and locked it.
The sound of excited zombies came from outside. They began banging on the door repeatedly, and the noise they made frightened the people in Room 412.
Jun Zishu leaned against the door to keep it steady. Ren Nanying followed suit and leaned against it as well.
There was more than one zombie outside, and they created ear-splitting and teeth-grinding sounds as they scratched the door with their nails.
Liu Manman had also gotten out of bed to join the resistance army, filling the last spot available at the door. Meanwhile, Lin Su and Xu Qiu emptied their respective desks and moved the desks to the door. Then, Jun Zishu and the others moved out of the way and used the desks to block the door.
The noise coming from outside continued. Out of fear, Xu Qiu held Lin Su’s hand, and the two close friends clasped hands to give each other strength.
Around ten minutes later, the zombies stopped banging on the door.
However, Jun Zishu noticed that there were still several red dots gathered outside the door, so she signaled for everyone to remain quiet.
Meanwhile, the girl who fled into the room was breathing harshly as she looked at the door nervously.
A few more minutes later, Jun Zishu gently walked up to the girl.
“Thank you for saving me,” the girl said with a pale complexion. “My name is Wu Zi. I’m from the Literature Department.”
“Oh, we’re from the same department. What class are you in? Are you a year-two?” Liu Manman asked in delight.
“Class 2. And yes, I’m in my second year.”
Although they had never met each other before, Liu Manman couldn’t help but feel close to this girl named Wu Zi since they were from the same department.
Afterward, Jun Zishu gave a simple introduction of herself and her roommates. Then, she asked Wu Zi how she reached their room.
“My room ran out of food. I was going to starve to death if I continued staying there, so I thought of leaving. But I didn’t know where to go. I’m from 417. You guys were the ones playing the national anthem last night, right?”
