Chapter 11 - Mum, Did You Make A Mistake?
"So what if he is good cultured, it is a well-known fact that he is still mourning his late fiancee even though it had been a year since she died. I will only be a neglected housewife if I marry him since he won't be able to perform his duty as a husband. I am not the one he loves so I will only wither away year after year. Being married to a man who still loves a dead person is the cruellest thing any parents will ever wish for her daughter," Jasmine said in a serious tone.
"I can't believe my beloved mum wants me to lead this kind of life," Jasmine said making a pained expression.
"You know that is not true," Mrs Avans quickly defended herself. "You know very well that I want you to live a happy life. A life where you will never have to suffer...,"

"Then why did you show me his picture if that wasn't your intention?" Jasmine said trying to make her mum feels guilty so she won't keep on showing her the pictures of her prospective husbands.
"Jasmine...," Mrs Avans said sternly just to call her to order.
"Ok mum, you can go ahead," Jasmine reluctantly gives her mum the go-ahead.
"This is the CEO of S&U company. His company is the number one textile company in the country. His wealth is immersed and his prestige is far greater. Although he is a little older than you that is not a problem," Mrs Avans replied. She stares at her beautiful daughters frowning face. She could not understand why she was frowning.
"Mum, let's leave the fact that his face has a bit of a problem because looks aren't that important to me," Jasmine said as she adjusted well on the couch. Mere thinking about marrying this man in the picture made her very uncomfortable.
"Mum, if I marry him I will not be his legal wife but the third. The third wife, that is more like being his concubine," Jasmine said in pure contempt.
"Mum, how could you be so cruel to make me a man's third wife? If I marry into such a household the two wives will be envious of me because of my beauty. They will both gang up and poison me to death. Mum is this what you want for your beloved that you have always said, you love?" Jasmine asked sounding hurt.
Why is Jasmine making a big deal about marrying into a household that has two wives already? With her personality, I am sure the other wives will end up suffering instead of her.
Mrs Avans thought staring at Jasmine's exaggerated expression.
"It's Ok if you don't like him but you didn't have to make it sound like I was sending you to the slaughterhouse. I only want the best for you that is why I had the matchmaker make a list of all the eligible men in the City and beyond," Mrs Avans said as she picked another picture.
For the next thirty minutes, Mrs Avans use it to show each of her suitors.
"This is the last one," Mrs Avans said staring at Jasmine's carefree expression. She extended her hands for Jasmine to get a closer view of the guy's face. Everything the guy in the picture was wearing was flashy. Some ladies would have found it catchy but too bad this lady's name is Jasmine Avans and not some ladies.
At first glance, Jasmine recognised him as the rumoured number one playboy in the City.
"He is the only son of Mrs Williams and the only heir of Williams Food Company. Just from mere staring at him, you can tell that he has been pampered all his life. He is single, handsome and rich. I am sure you find him more appealing right?" Mrs Avans said. She silently prayed that Jasmine will choose him and not criticise him as she did to the others. She has run out of patience she won't be able to stay so calm if Jasmine rejects him too.
"Mum, did you make a mistake? How could you choose a good for nothing man as my prospective suitor, ?" Jasmine asked. Her mums once hopeful expression fell immediately. "If he was only a good for nothing I would have managed him but his womanizing habits is something I would never condone," Jasmine said In a calm tone.
