Chapter 53: Ch.52 Static Electricity
Chapter 53: Ch.52 Static Electricity
As they advanced, wave after wave of men in black fell before the duo. Vick was quite satisfied with this. If possible, she wanted to turn this news coverage into a documentary.
She had even thought of the title: "Deathstroke on the Edge of the Blade."
With the stunning visuals in front of her, combined with her professional commentary, she was sure it would become a hit. She had already thought of the lines, such as:
"When the first rays of spring moonlight cast over Gotham's ground, the person in black and yellow armor set out with her sharpened long blade. She crossed streets littered with corpses, entering another world soaked in blood to play. This is an ancient assassin's ritual and Deathstroke's usual way of entertaining herself."
"Corpses, undoubtedly, are the common ground between biology and a great assassin. The coordination between flesh and blade allows the warm and passionate innards to burst out instantly and then shatter, leaving only a simple fragrance and an empty shell."
"Spring has come, and Deathstroke has already slain hundreds in Gotham; the Black Arrow in the south prefers bows and arrows, while the Deadshot nearby favors sniper rifles; in the east, Lady Shiva uses only her bare hands. Each assassin from different regions has their own preferences..."
Watching Su Ming and Cindy move fluidly through the crowd, executing their lethal techniques, she came to deeply appreciate the aesthetics of blood and violence. The blood splatters on the walls, in her eyes, slowly transformed into paintings with a will of their own.
Each bloodline, each patch of red moisture, each piece of visceral debris, seemed to be expressing something—something from a higher level of spirit and intent.
If Su Ming knew what she was thinking, he would definitely give her a white dove and encourage her to become a film director.
The enemies were running out of reinforcements. Two Deathstrokes had completely shattered their will to fight.
For Su Ming, it didn't matter if hundreds of them charged all at once or if they trickled in tens and twenties. The number of ordinary people was just a negligible factor.
Even in the calculations in his mind, the number of these gang members wasn't significant enough to be a variable. The only constant in his mind was "the rate of advance against a group of ordinary enemies."

No matter how many there were or what weapons they held, Deathstroke's forward momentum remained unstoppable.
Finally, after eliminating the last group of enemies, they arrived in front of two massive doors. These doors were exquisitely crafted, clearly taken from a high-end hotel. Pushing them open, they entered what looked like a large study. The fireplace was still roaring, but there was no one inside.
The room was filled with the scent of cigars and alcohol, indicating that Falcone had entertained Gordon here, but who knows what they discussed?
"There were three people in this room and a cat," Cindy said, lifting a long black hair from the sofa with the tip of her knife. Blood dripped into the cracks of the sofa's armrest, mingling with some white fur.
"Why a cat?" Vick questioned, wanting to delve deeper into the story of the next victim.
Su Ming paused slightly, despite his headache. He still noticed something was off when they first entered the room.
He smiled, sat down on the sofa, took off his helmet, and found two teacups, pouring some tea from the teapot and tasting it. His conclusion was that it was mediocre. Westerners just didn't brew tea the right way. The tea leaves were likely from South Asia, with a hint of curry flavor.
The tea was still warm, indicating they hadn't left long ago. He didn't rush to chase them but calmly responded to Vick:
"Because cats are predators. Even after thousands of years as human pets, they still retain traits of observation, striking decisively, and silent killing—all characteristics that align with how gangsters view themselves."
Cindy agreed, sitting beside Su Ming and sipping the tea. Unlike him, she seemed quite pleased with it. "Dogs don't work. Dogs are chasers. They're violent, ferocious, noisy, and crazy, always acting in packs. Only biker gangs would use them to show off their might. But at Falcone's level, he needs to project a sense of gentleness."
Su Ming glanced at Cindy with disdain. How could she drink such awful tea with pleasure? He looked away, no longer watching her savor the tea. "So, we deduce that it's a cat. You wouldn't expect a mob boss like Falcone to be cuddling a rabbit or a goat every day, right?"
Even in a world that promotes gender equality, mob bosses wouldn't be holding onto such animals. Herbivores just didn't fit with the image of gangsters.
Vick noted this down, gaining a new perspective on gangster psychology. However, she still didn't understand why the two suddenly stopped to have tea on the sofa.
"Why did you suddenly stop? Shouldn't we be looking for a secret passage or something in this room?"
She asked the two, and Su Ming pushed the teapot toward Cindy, then picked up a bottle of alcohol himself, filled a different cup, and downed it in one go.
"You only noticed that we found hair and cat fur. Did you pay attention to how we found them?"
"Huh?"
"Because when we came in, the hair and fur were swaying on the sofa like seaweed. Our armor wouldn't cause such a reaction, and neither would the equipment you're carrying. We usually call this phenomenon... Cindy?"
Su Ming drew the sword from his back and laid it on the table.
"Large-scale static electricity," Cindy echoed his action, placing her knife on her leg.
Su Ming nodded, smiling as he scanned the room. The fireplace only lit up a small area, while most of the room was in darkness.
"Typically, static electricity is caused by friction. But if you're fast enough, the human magnetic field interacting with the Earth's magnetic field can produce a similar effect."
"Yes." Cindy raised her gun, aiming at a corner of the room, where there was nothing but darkness. "I've been wondering why she disappeared because Batgirl never runs away. When she knows there's danger, she wouldn't hide. Like a true obsessive, she would face her enemies head-on."
Su Ming glanced at her but made no move to ready himself. "If someone passes through, they will inevitably leave traces, yet Batgirl left none. This made me suspect... Given the information I have, I had many theories. But now, seeing the static, I understand how Batgirl can avoid detection without actually hiding."
Before entering the research facility, he and Cindy had discussed the multiverse issue in a small store. She suggested that if Su Ming could travel from a parallel world to Earth Negative 11, others could too.
That statement reminded him that the multiverse is a whole. What he had inadvertently done, others could do intentionally.
The room was quiet, as if he were talking to the air. The camera scanned every corner but found no trace of Batgirl, not even where Cindy aimed her gun.
"Using high-speed movement to avoid being seen is a neat ability. But Barry, with the world on the brink of destruction, do you really want to pick a fight with two Deathstrokes now?" Su Ming sighed, signaling Cindy to lower her gun. He poured another glass of alcohol and placed it on the table. "We have plenty of explosives. In this confined space, your available routes are limited, and my blade will be waiting along your path."
He stood up, tore open the pillow he had taken earlier, and scattered the feathers in the air. Although it was subtle, you could see the feathers spinning faster as they fell, as if being pulled by something.
"Since you've followed me just as I expected and didn't attack first, I'll assume you have good intentions. So, will you join me for a drink, or do you want to get stabbed like your nephew?"
