Chapter 11: Office Attributes

Barrett was cleaning the streets. After receiving the notice from Eve, he rushed over to the construction area to ask for information immediately.
Barrett thought to himself, “I’m such an outstanding person, an elite investigator. However, I’ve been given the job of a handyman.”
Yet, he was very motivated. He felt like it was simply too much.
Barrett’s heart was completely broken. After leaving the office, he realized he was indeed working as a real handyman and was even passionate about the job. The company was simply toxic!
When he arrived at the construction area, Barrett looked for the boss and took out his investigator’s notebook.
“Please give me a copy of the engineering information of all the talents here. I will bring it along with me later.”
Barrett was a completely different person in front of the bosses.
“Okay, leader. Please wait for a moment,” said the boss of the construction area respectfully.
Although the boss of the construction area had a higher position compared to Barrett, their statuses were still the same. Barrett could easily do something to him if he used his privilege as an elite investigator.
Therefore, Barrett acted like an arrogant boss in front of him. He sat in the boss’s office and played games using the boss’s computer.
The boss of the construction area organized all the information that Barrett needed in a hurry. He could not ask anyone else to assist him with the matter. This was because Barrett had specifically instructed him to do it personally as the matter was confidential.
Half an hour later, the boss returned to the office with a stack of papers containing the relevant information. He was sweating profusely.

“Leader, this is the engineering information that our company is currently working on. What do you think?” said the boss to Barrett. He gave Barrett a smile.
“Thank you for your hard work,” said Barrett.
Barrett took the information and nodded.
“Remember, I didn’t come here today, and you’ve never seen me before. In the future, even if you see me, no matter what my identity is, you have to treat me as if you don’t know me. Do you understand?”
“I understand, I understand,” said the boss whilst nodding repeatedly.
Barrett took the documents and returned to the company. It took him less than an hour and a half to go back and forth.
When Smith received and saw the documents handed over by Eve, he was very satisfied with Barrett’s efficiency.
The document was very good and comprehensive.
“Boss, do you drink coffee or tea?”
Eve saw that Smith was preparing to work and asked him quickly.
“Do I even have these things in my office?” asked Smith. Smith was stunned for a moment.
“Boss, these have all been bought by the front desk earlier,” Eve explained.
“Oh, then make me a cup of tea,” said Smith whilst nodding.
Smith felt like a businessman when he drank tea and read the information of the engineering talents in the construction area.
As predicted, it was indeed the right decision to develop the company after obtaining the system.
However, Smith still preferred playing games compared to working.
After a long thought, Smith put down the documents on his table.
He then said to Eve, “Take this engineering information and calculate the cost. After calculating everything, please report back to me.”
“Boss, we don’t have an actuary?” Eve asked. She was confused.
Smith was stunned after hearing her question. Her question made sense. His company did not hire an actuary. They also did not recruit construction professionals.
The main thing was recruitment. The current people in personnel, administration, front desk and finance could not do the job.
Therefore, it seemed like they had missed a person. Barrett used to be a finance director and even knew how to cook accounts. He should be able to do the job of an actuary, right?
Why not just let him do the calculations?
“There’s no need to look for an actuary. Give it to Barrett. He will definitely do it,” said Smith indifferently.
Running errands and doing work of these sorts were too easy for a person who had worked as a finance director before.
Since he came with bad intentions, he had to find some work for him. He could not let him be idle. After all, he had spent money hiring him.
“Okay, boss,” said Eve.
After receiving all the information, Barrett reacted in the way that Smith had expected. He was very happy because he finally had something to do.
The others were not in the mood to care about Barrett at all. They were busy with their own things.
Even Eve kept busy. When she returned to Smith’s office after handing over the documents to Barrett, she began to clean up and wipe the table. For some reason, she could not stay idle. She felt like she had to work hard.
Although Smith was not working, he was not idle either. He was busy playing games.
After all, he was the boss, and the boss could do anything he wants. He went to work and played games.
For some reason, Smith felt like he was in a very good place on that day. The fact that he could play games whilst working was a victory, so he played with great enthusiasm.
Soon, the day passed.
When it was time to get off work, Smith turned off his computer and walked out of the office.
However, what he saw outside shocked him.
The office looked completely different from what it was in the morning.
Although the office had been renovated, there were still many things missing around the office.
For example, the office did not have printers, water fountains, A4 paper, company rules and regulations, and other necessities.
However, in the evening, the office looked different. There were several company rules and regulations, performance attendance forms, employee salary levels, and benefits system on the office wall.
There was also a current work schedule and general schedule.
In the corner of the office, there was also a water dispenser and a few pots of flowers.
There were also printers, filing cabinets, and other office supplies on the desk.
“Alright, everyone, please stop working. It’s time to go home,” Smith said to the people who were still working.
“Ah? You’re off work already? I haven’t even finished the employee training and assessment module yet.”
“Yeah, I’ve only finished half of the office procedures.”
“Me too. I’ve only finished one-third of the construction cost calculation.”
A group of employees said that they did not want to leave as they have not finished their work.
“There’s no need to rush. If you have work, you can do it tomorrow. That’s all for today. Go home,” said Smith.
Smith was very satisfied with the performance of the employees.
