Chapter 24
Chapter 24: Tunnel Breach
In the blink of an eye, half a month had gone by.
The first phase of the new Limi district had been completed and the construction of the first transfer housing estate had begun.
Only the transfer housing estate?
This was mainly because Smith did not have the money to buy land.
No matter how much support he received from George, he simply could not give the land to himself for free.
Therefore, Smith needed to develop a transfer housing estate first.
He needed to get construction funds from the government.
Once he received the funds, he can then use the money to buy the land and use the land to apply for loans.
After all that, he would then proceed to develop commercial housing.
Smith had no problem with the arrangement. Plus, it was just a transfer housing estate.
It would be done in a month and a half.
By then, he would have money.
Smith was not harassed at all during this time.
He thought that there would be some discussions on the internet regarding the collusion between officials and businessmen.

However, the internet was calm.
In actual fact, Smith did not know that the leaders of the development and construction companies had already been warned by the investigators the month before to not start a public uproar.
The investigators told them explicitly that they should stop and avoid causing any trouble because this particular matter involved state secrets.
Therefore, the people who usually caused trouble chose to keep quiet during this time.
It was usually fine when they stirred up some issues. However, as this matter involved the state and government, they would be courting death if they continued with their usual routine.
As a result, Smith did not receive any big shots, and the project was carried out peacefully.
On that night, Smith was sleeping when he suddenly heard a loud bang.
“What’s that sound?”
Smith opened his eyes in a daze and turned on the lights. He suddenly realized that his entire room was shaking.
An earthquake?
Smith saw the broken glass and chandelier on the ground. He got up immediately.
Smith was about to run out of his house when the shaking suddenly stopped.
At the same time, there was a lot of noise coming from outside.
Many people ran out of their houses.
“No. We must build mobile houses for ourselves in this new urban area. These broken houses were simply unsafe,” Smith said unhappily.
The next day, Smith got up to watch the news.
It turned out that an earthquake had occurred by the seaside.
At 2:15 this morning, there was a 9.2 magnitude earthquake.
More than half of the city felt an obvious tremor.
Smith was very unhappy.
However, the earthquakes were not something that could be controlled.
After dinner, Smith drove to the company.
Before he arrived at the company, he received a message from George.
“The subway tunnel is leaking water. Can your company fix the leak?”
George did not waste any time and asked Smith directly.
“Has the tunnel collapsed?” asked Smith.
“No, but there is some potential that it may collapse at any time, which is very dangerous,” George replied.
“As long as the tunnel doesn’t collapse, there should be no problem,” answered Smith.
Although he did not know how George would have knowledge of such a matter, he was willing to help. After all, Smith did have the ability to fix it.
George had no other way.
He had contacted many companies.
However, after the companies heard the situation, they told George that they had no emergency remedy.
If they had the equipment, they could fix it, but the timing was too tight. They could not bring their equipment there in time.
George had no other choice. He then finally decided to call Smith.
He did not expect Smith to come up with a solution for him.
Smith later arrived at the entrance of the subway tunnel.
It was quite big.
At the tunnel entrance, there were dozens of construction vehicles and water pumps. There were dozens of pipes pumping water outside.
The people in the crowd were all anxious.
“George, what’s the situation?” asked Smith when he found George.
“Tell me about the situation inside the tunnel. Is there any way to get inside as soon as possible?”
George then led Smith to another person.
He said to that person.
“What can you do? There’s now an eight-meter-long crack at the top of the tunnel. The widest crack is 15 centimeters, and the shortest crack is three centimeters.”
“That is indeed very serious.”
“The water is seeping down. It’s very easy to repair the crack, but the riverbed is broken.”
“That is a big problem.”
“If you don’t think of a way to solve this problem, even if you fix the crack, it’s useless. The tunnel can collapse at any time. How are you going to repair it?” the other party asked in a serious tone.
“Is that the only question?” asked Smith. Smith did not answer his question.
“Is that not enough?” said the foreman unhappily.
“Okay, I got it.”
Smith turned around and left.
He brought the construction robots along and was stopped by the police at the periphery.
“Mr. Smith, can you really fix it?” asked George in a serious tone.
This was not a small matter after all. It was fine if Smith was unable to help. Even if the tunnel collapsed, it would not have anything to do with him.
However, if Smith tried to fix it, any problems would be Smith’s responsibility.
“George, don’t worry. This is a small problem. It’s nothing,” said Smith like it did not matter.
Soon, Smith led two teams of construction robots and they entered the tunnel using canoes.
There was no one inside the tunnel during this time.
The power supply had been shut off, and it was pitch black.
It was very scary.
Smith dared to enter the tunnel because the system had done a scan of the tunnel and confirmed that it will not collapse anytime soon.
After a while, they finally reached the water-seeping crack.
Smith opened the system and started working.
It was easy to fix the crack. It took less than ten seconds.
However, suddenly, there was another violent tremor.
Another earthquake!
