Chapter 8: Hunters test Part - 1
Chapter 8: Hunters test Part - 1
"I'm Elio, and this is my co-worker, Aella. We will be the ones in charge of supervising this test."
The two people on the podium introduced themselves, the man looking gruff as Elio, and the woman looking at everyone seriously as Aella.
"As you all know, in this place the test to obtain your hunter's license will be held. However, before starting, you must go to that table to sign the authorization document, in case any of you pass away," Elio indicated, pointing to a booth located next to him.
Everyone present began to walk towards the stand that Elio had indicated and formed a long line to sign the document to participate in the test.
Once everyone had finished signing the document, they lined up again in front of the two people in charge of supervising the test.
"Before the test begins, this forest is divided into four zones, each occupied by different monsters. Goblins are found in the north; black-toothed wolves are found; in the south. In the east, in a desolate area, are the undead skeletons, while in the west, by a lake, reside the lizard men."
Elio explained, pointing to each of the locations of each monster.
They all tensed and swallowed saliva nervously as they heard the names of the monsters, none of them having experience in killing monsters.
Erik was just as nervous because, like them, he had never faced a monster head-on. So it is normal for him to be nervous.
'So, first I'll go south of the forest, then west, and finally north.'
Erik devised a plan to complete the mission, even though he was nervous and a little afraid of facing the monsters, he had to do it so he wouldn't suffer the same as the night before again.
He chose this sequence because he is currently in the southern part of the forest. After all, the smartest thing to do would be to start at this place nearby.
"This...Supervisor, Elio."
A woman wearing a bow and leather chest armor spoke, and everyone present turned their gaze toward her.
"Tell me" Elio focusing his attention on her.
"Can we form groups to perform the test?" Asked the woman.
"Of course, you can form groups" Elio replied and added. "But before we form groups. The test will be to survive in this forest for 24 hours"
"But, what if we die in the forest?"
Now asked a burly man, with a large shield in his hand. A question that everyone had at the moment.

"Nothing will happen, we will simply warn your relatives. And if you don't have relatives, we won't warn anyone," replied Elio in a serious tone.
"Wait, no, you will save us if we are on the verge of death?" asked the man puzzled by the answer.
"You seem to be misunderstanding something. The two of us are just supervising this test, we won't save you if you're about to die," Elio replied just as seriously.
"Why, no, they'll save us if they're the supervisors!"
"I will report this to the main office!"
"You have to secure our lives since you are the ones responsible for the test!"
"It's unfair!"
They all started yelling, complaining about everything, and protesting about how unreasonable the test was. None of them had any experience in hunting monsters thought they would at least be given some basic guidance. But...
They are being sent into a forest full of monsters, without any preparation!
It's almost impossible for them to survive twenty-four hours in the forest.
"Silence!"
A deep, icy voice echoed throughout the room, forcing the protesting and conversing people to shut up immediately. Then an immense pressure descended on the examinees, bringing them to their knees and making it difficult for them to breathe.
"Heuk!"
"Ugh!"
"Huak..."
"Kuh-guhk..."
'Huh?'
Erik, who was absorbed in his thoughts, snapped out of them as he felt the pressure. He looked around bewildered, perplexed by what was happening. He saw everyone kneeling, struggling for breath.
'What's going on, why are you all kneeling?'
Erik looked at this in confusion, feeling an intense pressure on his body, though not strong enough to bring him to his knees.
The supervisors raised an eyebrow, surprised to see that Erik was the only one standing and appeared to be in perfect condition, in stark contrast to the others.
'Oh, interesting... he seems to be able to withstand a little of my pressure.'
Aella took a little interest in the one person standing there feeling her pressure, but to the rest, she gave them a look of sense.
In her eyes the others were nothing more than trash, besides, she noticed that the big guilds didn't send anyone this time.
After a few seconds, Aella began to take the pressure off, allowing the people to regain normal breathing.
"Listen to me! We are not here to listen to your annoying complaints. We are here simply to supervise the test. Anyone who doesn't want to participate can leave; no one is forcing them to do so."
Aella said with a cold expression looking at everyone with since. making them all tremble under her gaze.
"If that's the way it is, I'm out of this shit!"
"I'm leaving too, I don't want to lose my life."
"Fuck you and your stupid exam."
The people who were about to perform the test began to leave the place.
This is due to the fear of losing their lives or simply the fear of dying at the hands of another person, a sad reality that is quite common among hunters.
In short, the world of the hunters remains a crude representation of the law of the jungle, where power dictates the truth and the weakest are forced to accept this crude reality.
This brutal dynamic has not changed since time immemorial; the law of the jungle has always existed.
Both in the society of common citizens and in the high society. The rich or powerful always tend to rule all, and the same in this case with hunters.
In fact, among hunters this problem is even stronger, because hunters are the spitting image of something that came to revive in times past, while normal people tend to fall back on their connections and resources, hunters opt for more savage methods, which can lead to deaths all over the place.
In an everyday life situation, this might be a little different.
For example, when a child, whom we will call A, confronts another child, whom we will call B, about the bullying that A is suffering from B, the differences become evident when trying to find a solution.
In this case, one might expect that the parents of A and B would be called in to intervene. However, herein lies the disparity. A's parents are ordinary citizens, while B's parents are politicians with great influence in the city.
So what do you think would happen in this situation? The answer is pretty clear: B's parents would use their connections and political power to harm Child A's family.
Child A's family, despite being the victims in this case, would be forced to accept everything quietly, as they lack connections or political power. Child B's family, on the other hand, has these advantages.
In short, Child B's family is strong, while Child A's family is weak. This is the harsh reality of the world we live in, whether you like it or not.
After most of the people left the place, of the initial 300, only 150 remained.
In short, half of the people left, leaving only those who were determined to take the test and obtain their hunter's license, thus allowing them to participate in dungeon expeditions.
"Garbages" Aella snorted.
"In five minutes the test will begin. Get ready!"
Elio announced stepping down from the podium.
People quickly organized themselves into groups.
"We need someone who can hold the front!"
"We don't need a healer, we need an archer."
"I'm an assassin."
"Oh, sorry, we're already full. Find another group."
"I'm a tank, someone needs a tank."
Erik, who was observing how people were grouping, moved away from the place and leaned against a tree to avoid being disturbed as he joined the group.
While everyone formed groups, he remained apart from the crowd preparing for the test. It was at that moment that the supervisors reappeared.
"Say the test again: survive for 24 hours in this monster zone. After that period, the clock we will give you will beep, and you must return here alive."
Elio said as Aella handed out the special watches to the participants who remained to take the test.
Once everyone had their watches, they started to go deeper into the forest.
Elio and Aella disappeared without a trace.
'Okay, let's get started'
Erik nervously walked into the forest as well and headed towards the black-fanged wolf area to begin the mission.
After walking for a few minutes, he decided to change course.
However, the instant he turned around, he found himself surrounded by five black-toothed wolf monsters, not realizing how they had stalked him since he had entered the forest.
"Grr!"
"Grr..."
"Grr!"
"Grr!"
Despite the danger that surrounded him, a small unconscious smile appeared on his face, and this was due to nerves.
"Well..."
He pulled the spear out of his inventory and took a rough stance, while a cold sweat ran down his forehead and a nervous expression.
