Chapter 20 20 - First Day Of Class II
After introducing himself he went on to say that along with homeroom he would also be teaching the practical elemental class. He then made a showing of his ability by pulling water out of a nearby vase of flowers, and announced that he had the water ability. After his introductions he went on to talk a bit about his past as a gatecrasher and proceeded to show why he was teaching at such a young age. One raid he went on, a monster caught his squad by surprise and he unfortunately lost a leg. Because of this he now wore a high tech prosthetic but it prevented him from continuing his career anymore and was dropped from the guild he was signed to.
After talking a bit about his past he began to go over Gatecrashing 101, "As you know, us being awakened makes us the first defense against the dimensional doors. Can someone tell me the three different kinds of dimensional doors?"

A girl towards the back of the class raised her hand and answered, "Gates, Rifts, and Dungeons."
"Correct," Mr. Kruz responded, "the three types of dimensional doors all come with their own dangers. Rifts are considered the least dangerous for awakened humans but those that have not awoken an ability they are considered the most dangerous due to them trapping those without abilities behind the dimensional wall. Gates, like the first dimensional door that appeared, are portals that lead to other worlds in a sense, some are more dangerous than others, but they only allow awakened people to enter, if they aren't cleared by gatecrashers in time, then they will open releasing the creatures contained within to our world, like what was seen in Manila in 2097. These gates also contain valuable resources within them, such as monster corpses that can be broke down and used for making magical weapons and tools, as well as magical stones which are a key energy source in today's society. And the third type dungeons…"
Hearing the word dungeon gave Milo a painful memory of the time he found out about his parent's disappearance. He was 13 and had come home to a strange man in a suit sitting on the couch of his home talking to his cousin who was bawling her eyes out. After informing his cousin, the man walked over to Milo and handed him the two medals he now kept with him at home. He had no idea how to react at first but being given the opportunity to become stronger had given him a new drive to close the dimensional doors and try to find out more about his parent's disappearance.
"Dungeons are the strangest and most dangerous of any dimensional doors, contained within them are labyrinths that are filled with monsters, traps and puzzles. If one is able to reach the end they are able to find strong magical artifacts that can be used to improve their ability, fight monsters or be sold for unfathomable amounts of money. There have also been cases of dungeon's collapsing with gatecrashers still inside, no one knows the causes of these collapses but countless gatecrashers have been lost due to this."
This included Milo's parents. After seeing a somber expression on Milo's face Mr. Kruz grew curious about how such a young kid could make a face only experienced gatecrashers would normally make.
After finishing up homeroom Milo was grabbing his stuff to move to his next class, when he was approached by Mr. Kruz.
"I couldn't help but notice the face you made during my section on the different types of dimensional doors, did something happen in your past that would make you feel upset?"
Seeing that Mr. Kruz was trying to be a good teacher and make sure he was okay, he went on to explain about the disappearance of his parents in a collapsing dungeon, and even went into detail about his close encounter with death himself within a rift.
Hearing about everything Milo had been through so far at his young age astonished him, at Milo's age he himself was just goofing off, playing video games and doing normal high schooler things but Milo had already been through more than most rookie gatecrashers.
Pondering what he should say to the young student, he decided on a line that would become a mantra for Milo.
"Nothing can change the past. But, what will you do to change the future?"
