Pause System: Harem In The Apocalypse

Chapter 66

In the darkness of night once everyone was asleep, Gray could be seen packing his bags in preparation for the labyrinth. He had packed food, spare changes of clothes, blankets, the water bottle with a sterilizer and a med-kit.

That was all he would need, anymore and it would be a hindrance to carry around.

"First labyrinth, then zombies and now an alien invasion to top things off… This world really is fucked." He muttered. "But even if that's the case…"

Once he was ready packing everything, he put the bag on his back and tied his shoes.

"As long as I'm still standing… I'll keep everyone safe." He uttered with determined eyes.

As he said those words, he noticed his reflection on the mirror ahead of him. It was a mirror which had been here in the toilet of this underground shelter and it was useful so they kept it there.

When he saw his reflection in it, his eyes widened. Not because there was something unusual about the mirror, but because of his own self.

Giggling, he slowly covered his face with his palm before letting out a sigh.

"Since when have my eyes been like that…?" He questioned as the edge of his lips curled up.

'All this talk about protecting everyone when just two weeks ago I was trying to kill myself… How ironic…'

After realizing such, he got up before making his way towards the entrance of the underground shelter. He made sure to pause the air in between his feet and the floor just before they would make contact so that the sound of his foo steps wouldn't wake them up.

Without saying a word, he continued with this process as he walked up the staircase which led to outside the shelter. He glanced back as the thought that this could be the last time he would see them flashed by his mind.

The whole group was asleep. Gray had purposely told them to rest as they would be leaving early in the morning with him to help him out. They doubted him at first but after some convicting he was able to get them to trust him.

He felt bad for betraying their trust, but the labyrinth was no joke. Just the first floor took everything. There was a large possibility that they were all different and this one would make it impossible for him to climb out unlike before.

"Besides, it's my problem not theirs… Making them risk their life for it is…"

Gray glanced back once more before moving on. Once he reached the top of the staircase, he tried pushing open the double framed reinforced door. To his surprise however, it wouldn't budge. It wasn't locked and usually it wouldn't take any effort at all to open it.

But it seemed to be stuck on something.

"Hey, Lady's first." A familiar voice echoed from behind.

Gray turned back only to find Violet standing there with her arms crossed and an annoyed look on her face. A large bag rested on her back. The door not closing was due to her telekinesis.

"You won't listen even if I try stopping you, will you?" Gray asked.

"Nope." Aurora replied as she emerged form the shadows. She too carried a bag and seemed annoyed at Gray.

Gray faced the entrance once more before letting out a sigh. "Suit yourselves…". Following that, he turned to the door and watched as it was pushed open by Violet's telekinetic force.

"We don't have time to waste. Try to keep up. If you get left behind, that's on you." Those were his final words, before leaping out. Although he tried hiding it, mid-leap, the smile on his face was visible as the moonlight shone upon him.

"Wha- Did he just…? Aurora, let's go!" Said Violet before chasing after.

Aurora quickly nodded as she followed behind.

"Goddamn zombies and horned ones' Gray muttered as he stood at the top of a retail store.

Aurora and Violet could be seen panting heavily behind him as they tried catching their breaths.

He had been going east and ending up finding two in the direction Lita had pointed. One was the one he was in and the other was the one he was ahead of, the one his sister was in.

On the way he ended up encountering a different type of a mutated zombie. This one could fly and shoot out shards of it's bones. It was a real pain in the neck to deal with.

And that wasn't even the worst of it. There were other mutated zombies going around. One which he had seen had merged with a bomb and blown itself up inside of a building causing It to collapse. Others had even started to use abilities somehow.

Then there was the fact that they were at a battlefield, just staying out of the sight of the incredibly perceptive race along with the government when he was traveling with another two people took everything he had.

Fortunately, all went well and without suffering any losses. They had finally made it. Ahead of the retail store which he stood on top of was a large hole which stretched much further than he had expected.

The roads, buildings and houses which were in the area must have all fallen in.

"We've made it… The dungeon."

Out of the corner of his eyes, he was able to catch figures moving.

'But it looks like we're not the only ones…' He thought to himself.

*Drip* *Drip*

The sound of water droplets hitting a puddle echoed throughout the giant room. Shortly after, It was overlapped but by the sound of large footsteps which shook it.

Hidden away a small crack in on the top corner of the room, a young girl could be seen. Her body trembled ever so slightly as the breeze sent ripples of cold passing through her.

She had long since reached the limits of her strength. Her body had given out from exhaustion. Even if she could muster enough energy to move, where would she go? There was no escape, the only option was to move forward.

Such was the thought of the group she was with. And such was the hope that kept her moving forward.

But where was that group now, you might ask? Dead. All of them had died.

And there was no doubt in her mind that she was next.

Her black hair swayed ever so slightly as her figure curled further up into a ball in an attempt to warm herself up. Her green and yellow irises almost seemed to dim down on their glow as memories of her life flashed by her mind.

"Brother…" She muttered as a tear streamed down her eye. "I-I wanted to see you just one last time… Sorry..." She added, her voice cracking in the process.
