Chapter 21: Chapter 21 Shock
The softness that Xia Liu had been resting his head on brought a surge of energy to him in an instant, not to mention the faint fragrance in his nostrils.
"I'm really sorry, Sister Fang. I was a bit tired just now, but I'm fine now." Xia Liu quickly moved his head away, not daring to imagine how embarrassing it would be if he continued to rest on that softness.
Fang Fei flashed a sly smile, "Hehe, why so formal with me? By the way, is it all good for my godmother like this?"
Looking into Fang Fei's big, puzzled eyes, Xia Liu nodded, "Just wait a few more minutes, and after we go out, I'll write you a prescription. Collect the herbs, prepare the concoction, and half a month later, her body will return to the level of a normal person."
"Wow! Really? Xia Liu, I just love you to death!" Hearing these excited words, Fang Fei impulsively gave Xia Liu a peck on the cheek.
Realizing her behavior was somewhat rude, Fang Fei blushed and turned her gaze away.
"Fang Fei, oh Fang Fei, behave a little, will you? You're almost thirty and still acting like a little girl!" Fang Fei scolded herself silently, gritting her teeth.
Touching the still damp lip print on his face, Xia Liu let out a wry smile, and the room suddenly fell into an extremely awkward silence.
Fortunately, it was about time to act, so Xia Liu slowly started to remove the silver needles from the woman's body.
Apart from the gold and red-colored needles that looked normal, the rest that were pulled out had turned black — these were the last toxins being expelled from the woman's body.
As soon as he removed the needle from the top of her head, the woman suddenly opened her eyes, and the quick-reacting Xia Liu placed a basin in front of her mouth.
After a gusty bout of retching, the woman once again fell into a deep sleep.
Looking at the black and white contents in the basin, Fang Fei nearly vomited, but Xia Liu managed the situation in time.
"Brother Liu, Sister Fang, how is everything?" Li Zhong, who had been anxiously listening at the door, called out with concern.

He had never been as anxious as he was now, and even though he didn't fully trust Xia Liu, he also didn't want an accident to occur during the treatment that would worsen his wife's condition.
Xia Liu and Fang Fei quickly stepped out of the room, and Li Zhong immediately grabbed Xia Liu's hand, "Brother Liu, how is it?"
"A complete success. With another half a month of rest, her body will be just like that of a healthy person," Xia Liu said with a slight smile.
"Really?" Li Zhong and Lin Hongsheng exclaimed in surprise in unison. The illness had bothered them for too long, and Xia Liu had cured it in just half an hour, which was incredibly shocking to anyone.
Lin Hongsheng clearly didn't believe it and went straight into the room. A few minutes later, he came out with a stiff expression on his face.
"Hongsheng, how's your sister-in-law?"
"Brother Li, Brother Liu is truly miraculous. My sister-in-law, her breath is smooth, and her complexion is rosy — a clear sign that she is recovering from a serious illness! However, I'll be certain only after seeing the test results." In fact, Lin Hongsheng wasn't entirely sure, but from his many years of medical experience, he sensed his sister-in-law's illness was gone — completely cured!
"Fang Fei, cook up a feast tonight; I need to properly thank Brother Liu!" Li Zhong didn't know how else to express his excitement. Spinning around on the spot, he instructed Fang Fei to cook while he pulled Xia Liu over to the sofa for tea.
Before dinner was served, Xia Liu wrote a prescription, with Lin Hongsheng watching beside him; although he didn't quite understand traditional Chinese medicine, he recognized some of the herbal ingredients.
"The prescription is roughly effective for maintaining the body's health."
"Director Lin's right," Xia Liu nodded, "the patient is still pretty weak right now. This prescription needs to be taken continuously for half a month, and then they should be able to be like a normal person." Xia Liu nodded his head in approval. Lin Hongsheng had indeed some skill to become the head of the County Hospital.
Li Zhong kept nodding his head and praised Xia Liu. His wife's illness had turned his hair white, and now she was finally able to recover to normal.
On the table, Li Zhong brought out his treasured homemade liquor and began to drink heavily with Xia Liu. If it weren't for Fang Fei stopping them, he would have sworn brotherhood with Xia Liu right there.
"By the way, Xia Liu, could you do me another favor? Whatever you ask for, I'll give it to you," Fang Fei suddenly interjected while Xia Liu, Li Zhong, and Lin Hongsheng were drinking and having a good time.
"Sister Fang, you're too kind," Xia Liu replied eagerly, "Just tell me, even if it seems impossible, I'll do my best to make it happen." Xia Liu was easy to talk to, and how could he refuse to help a beautiful woman in need?
"My sister Qinqin also suffers from asthma, so..."
At this, Li Zhong and Lin Hongsheng also realized what was being asked and quickly said,
"Look at me, forgetting about my own head," Li Zhong said, "my daughter has inherited this illness from birth, and I hope you can help her to be like a normal person as well."
"Brother Xia Liu, you'll be my lifesaver, Lin Hongsheng, forever. Anything you need, just come to the County Hospital, I will not refuse, even unto death!" Lin Hongsheng vowed.
With a knowing smile, Xia Liu said, "Sister Fang, Director Lin, Mayor Li, you don't have to be like this. As soon as Qinqin comes back from her business trip, I'll treat her. It's just a matter of a few minutes."
Lin Hongsheng was slightly embarrassed; after all, what even the medical community was helpless against was merely a few minutes' work for Xia Liu.
Li Zhong and Fang Fei were overjoyed and kept thanking Xia Liu at the table. They almost put him on a pedestal.
Just before the meal concluded, Xia Liu candidly expressed the reason for his visit that day.
After hearing it, Li Zhong was momentarily stunned. He wasn't troubled by it, but rather, he was so shocked that he was at a loss for words.
"You're not scaring me, Xia Liu. You want to fund the digging of a road yourself?" Fang Fei was also shocked. Back in Pinglan Town, Xia Liu had mentioned he was just a farmer, and even if they knew today about his identity as a village doctor, he couldn't possibly afford to fund a road construction.
"Brother Xia Liu, don't force yourself," Li Zhong said, most shocked by Xia Liu's background. "I'm somewhat aware of Osmanthus Village's situation. I submitted the application forms earlier this year, and if my estimations are correct, in another month or so, we should have the official green light to open a new road."
Osmanthus Village was the poorest in the county, yet it was this very village, seemingly out of place, that had a miraculous doctor like Xia Liu. And now, he was talking about digging a road himself to help the villagers leave the mountains.
In truth, Xia Liu hadn't disclosed all his plans; if Li Zhong knew he intended to split open a mountain, his jaw would certainly drop.
Xia Liu gently declined Li Zhong's suggestion, knowing well that the development of the village was accelerating by the day, and not having a road was absolutely unacceptable. Waiting a month was a delay that couldn't be afforded.
If the official approval didn't come through by then, it would all be for naught, so self-reliance was the best policy.
"Good, good, good! Truly a promising young man," Li Zhong promised Xia Liu without hesitation. "With a young person like you in Osmanthus Village, how can it not develop? I'll come with you first thing tomorrow morning. Anyone maliciously hindering the village's development, I'll deal with them fairly and justly!"
