Psychokinetic Eyeball Pulling

Chapter 38: Dungeon

Chapter 38: Dungeon

"I can't sense anything." Lisa shook her head.

"What, nothing at all?" Brett gawked.

"Nothing. It's like my entire sensory skill cuts off as soon as I direct it towards that doorway."

"Well, I'm in." Rachelle licked her lips. "Who knows what goodies are in there?"

"Yes, and who knows what damned monsters lay there?" Lisa said. "If we can't detect anything, it means nothing good. I don't like it, Daniel."

"I know what you mean. But have you forgotten why we became wayfarers in the first place?" Daniel said, his hand firmly grasped around his curved blade.

The others grimly nodded.

"I need to enter my System before we enter, just in case something nasty jumps out at us." Brett said.

"I'm the same." Losef added.

"Alright, you guys go first," Daniel said, "we'll enter it after you."

“Okay, I’m ready.” Astrid said after finishing with her System.

"Alright Rob lad, ready to face the music?" Daniel said.

"Mmm," Rob grinned as he slapped his shield.

Astrid levitated down into the crater in the middle of the formation. Approaching, there was no draft coming from the doorway. As they got closer, the abyss like darkness turned into a wall of shadows.

"What the hell Daniel. There's nothing beyond it." Brett peered at the darkness.

"I heard one of Fionn's party members rambling on about how they entered a door of darkness within the city." Rachelle frowned.

"You think what he said is true? Everyone thought him a lunatic. Returned with only half his brain intact. Kept going on about another world or something." Brett said.

"Daniel. Do you think?--"

"I don't know." Daniel's knuckles turned pale white. "We'll find out soon." Biting his keep, he motioned toward Rob.

With a heavy nod, Rob stepped Infront of the wall. His hand reached forward, and it disappeared. With a deep breath, he walked forward until his entire body and existence vanished.

Then it was Daniel, then soon it was Astrid's turn. With her hand sifting through the wall of black. There was no feeling. It was as if she had lost her hand entirely. With a panic, she lurched it back. Looking at her hand, there was no difference, and all the feeling came back to her.

A prick of pain in her eye urged her forward. With a deep breath, she walked through. The first half of her party greeted her, and so did a large corridor filled with flickering lanterns.

You have entered the dungeon of the Eternal Jailer.

"A dungeon?" Astrid was stunned. "What the hell's a dungeon?"

Daniel and the first half of the team shook their heads at the question. Astrid's attention moved to the surrounding area.

Lanterns of magic flickered within. The bricks of the corridor were ancient and straight. It was as if they had been created from a builder Class. Or from a machine. Astrid could only wonder. Her hand brushed up against the wall. It was smooth to the touch. She couldn't make out the usual grain that bricks should have.

"Alright, let's move forward." Daniel continued. "We've entered unusual land, no pissing about. That goes to you Brett."

"Don't plan on it." Brett nodded as he peered down into the darkness.

Once everyone was ready, they cautiously and slowly made their way down the corridors. Then they approached a fork. The hallway had split off in five different directions. Despite the worry-inducing decision, Daniel and the others were at ease.

Daniel stepped forward as the lines Astrid had seen before appeared in his eyes once more. He looked at each path before his vision settled on the second last path.

“This way.” Daniel nodded.

“Is that a Skill?” Astrid asked.

“It’s a Legendary Skill.”

Astrid’s eyes widened.

“What, you thought only nobles had access to Legendary Skills and Classes?”

“No, I know everyone can have them, just that the possibility is extremely rare.” Astrid continued. “Is it a good idea to tell me?”

“Of course, you’re one of us now, Astrid.” Daniel said. “My team ain’t just some random people picked up from the Humanity board like the rest of them. We are family.”

Astrid looked at the others as they smiled back at her. She felt something well up inside her. Leena seemed to notice as she rested her armoured hand on Astrid’s shoulder.

Your Friendship has reached 80/100

Nodding to Leena, she gazed at the sudden message. I wonder what bonuses Happiness would give me? The strength from Killing Intent was still fresh on her mind. Killing the orc despite its human-like face brought her unfathomable pleasure. It was an uncomfortable feeling, letting go of her emotions entirely. Was that my real unsuppressed emotion, or was it just the skill?

“Still nothing?” Daniel looked at Astrid and Lisa as they shook their heads.

“I can’t scan anything in here. It’s as if something is suppressing me.” Lisa frowned. But she didn’t give up. She kept her hand on the walls.

”Trap!”

Daniel suddenly grabbed the back of Rob’s chest plate and yanked him back. His muscles bulged, trying to stop the weight of Rob’s enormous body.

“Mmm?” Rob looked around.

Daniel squatted down. Astrid peered down at the floor. Focusing on the tile, she could see that it was slightly raised. If she didn't closely inspect it, she would have never known something like that was here.

“The trap hasn’t been set off.” Brett said.

“The others must have taken one of the other passages.” Leena said. She stood right behind Astrid.

“I can activate it.” Astrid said.

Daniel nodded as they all retreated. Astrid’s mind latched onto the tile’s mana and pushed down. With a groan that resembled two rocks sliding against each other. Tiny holes within the brick gaps of the wall opened up, then spouted thousands of needles. They travelled like a blur as they embedded themselves into the solid wall.

Astrid pressed back down on the trap tile, but nothing happened. They walked closer. Astrid peered at the needles that would have killed them all in seconds.

Level ?? - Obsidian Needle: Made from incredibly hard obsidian rock, they have slight armour piercing capabilities.

Oh, so they’re not poisoned. She wasn’t sure why, but she felt minor disappointment. She expected a mysterious maze that no one had been to be filled with poisonous traps and snakes. I don’t mind snakes, just please don’t let there be spiders.

Her hands clenched together as she prayed to the Goddess Iara.

Now knowing that they weren’t poisoned, she had an idea. Her mind connected to the needle and attempted to pull. But it looked like they made the brick of a mysterious material as the obsidian needles were lodged inside.

“Rob, can you help me?” Astrid asked.

“Mmm.” With a smile, his enormous hands pinched the needle and pulled. It wouldn't budge. He looked at Astrid as his shoulders slumped.

“You can do it!” Astrid placed her fist in front.

“Mmm!” He yanked the needle with newfound vigour. With a little wiggle, it broke free from the bricks. He repeated it many times until it filled his large hands with small, black needles. Rob handed them over.

“Thank you!” Astrid smiled as Rob scratched his head.

Walking back down the corridor, past the used trap, Astrid hoped that the system counted the newly gained needles as a blade for her Title.

They passed two other traps. One was a large log that was basically a hulking spear. Tipped with a sharp blade. It almost got them as instead of a raised tile, it was a line of invisible light. Lisa couldn’t sense it, but Astrid did. Light was also matter, so to her, it just looked like a piece of string on either side of the wall.

The other was a pitfall trap. Strangely, Astrid was happy to find that it was a pit of venomous snakes. She had read about fantasy treasure books when she was a child, and now she was living in it!

Finally, after having walked for forty minutes with no monster in sight, the slender corridors opened up into a large, sprawling room. Much like the corridors, the room was bland. Four large pillars looked to keep the ceiling from caving in, and it was lined with the same flickering lanterns that lit up the entire dull room.

“Going into a large room, that can’t mean anything good.” Brett said.

Just as Brett had finished talking, the back wall opened with three different tunnels. Suddenly, Astrid’s Psych Domain was going crazy. Hearts of red made their appearance, and they were huge. An aura began emitting from the passageways as it sent a shiver coursing up Astrid’s spine.

“Back in the corridor!” Daniel shouted.

As they turned, the corridor snapped shut. Rob blasted forward as his tower shield slammed into the wall, however it was like an unshakable mountain. The wall didn’t budge. Not a scratch was visible. Without Daniel saying anything, Rob dashed back to the front of the group now that the plan had failed.

“Should we use the pillars for cover?” Astrid asked.

“No, we don’t know what enemies we’ll be facing. They could work against us.” Daniel warned.

Leena took a glance around her, noticing nothing at their flank as she walked in front of Astrid. Her Umbrella popped open as it surrounded them both like a steel shield.

“Are you ready, my lady?” Leena said with a vicious grin appeared on her face. Astrid could see Leena’s mana container swirl.

“What kind of nonsense is that? Of course I am.” Astrid said. She could feel her psychic mana jump within her mana container in exuberance.

Astrid peered closely to the three passageways. Her eyes were locked onto the middle passage. The air being emitted from it was frightening. She could feel the perspiration drip down the side of her forehead. Each step, whatever it took, sent a thrum into her mind. The matter was screaming. It was like a water vapour that was billowing upward.

Her heartbeat quickened, sending fiery blood surging through her body. The toes of the monster appeared, the rest of its body shrouded in the abyss-like shadows. Human fee–

It vanished, reappearing in front of Rob with a ghastly grin. It happened too fast. Rob's eyes widened as the monster–no, the human's fist clattered against his tower shield. With a resounding bang, it lifted Rob off of his feet as he shot backwards like a cannonball being fired from its barrel.

He stood there, at the same height as Rob. Long, cascading hair trailed down his shoulders and back. His broad chest was marred with scars and a thick metallic chain hung around his neck.

"Who are you?" Astrid called out.

Level ??? - Eternal Demon: Bound to a life of imprisonment by the Eternal Jailer.

His lips curled, he moved once more.
