Chapter 9: Report II
Chapter 9: Report II
We stopped halfway down the corridor and walked into a room. It was a room small enough to pass as a closet with no windows. The only thing inside was a device that almost resembled a computer. The walls also looked weird, almost like they were soundproofed.
“Okay so the way this works is you simply put your temporary card in that slot on the left and it will transfer all information to this card.” Hanna showed another card that she put in a slot on the right.
“Now you just channel mana into that orb over there and your status will come up on the display.”
Wait, wait, wait, WHAT? Show my status? I see a whole plethora of problems with that sentence. First problem is that I'm a dragon. The second problem is that a guild staff member is here with me. The third problem is that this will show on my guild card? What is this new magitech device they got? Guild cards never had any fancy stuff like this before. The last and quite frankly the biggest issue is that someone figured out a way to display someone's status. Something I haven’t been able to do. Sure since the one that wants to show their status have to actually channel mana I can’t call it perfect but if it shows everything it’s already better than my flawed [Inspect]. But wait, if this device exists, has someone succeeded in making a functional spell as well? I’m putting that on the list.
[Note] To-Do List:
- Register as an adventurer
- Push my rank to SSS
- Gather funds
- Buy maps over the continent
- Get information about any possible wars or political tensions between countries
- Information about the Beast Nation
- Information about status inspect spells
“I’m sorry, did you just say that my status will show?” I turned and looked at Hanna.
“Yes, but you don’t have to worry if you have something you want to hide. The fields that get inscribed on your card are name, race, title and class but they can be changed to a certain extent. Some nobles want to remove their last name and some don’t want to show any title they might have. Class can also be changed with some restrictions. You can only show your own class or a class below in the same advancement tree. You can't be a knight and show yourself as a mage for example.”
Did I just hit a massive roadblock? Forget getting max rank, I won’t even be able to get G at this rate. Changing my name and title is one thing but my race is a problem. Also the fact that I don’t have a class. Maybe I can have a look and see if I can edit race and slap on a class or something? Maybe you can only choose classes you are eligible to have with your stats and skills? That would give me a good list.
“And do you need to be here for that?”
“Yes the guild requires one employee to be present. But you don’t have to worry about any information getting out. We had to sign a pretty rigid contract when we started working here.” She said in, what I can only assume, was her most assuring voice.
I squinted at Hanna. “So you are not just saying that because you wanted to see my skills?”
“No, we are actually required to be here! Also, your skills won’t show up on the display.”
“Does that mean that you would be okay with me asking for someone else to be here instead?”
“Eh, uhm, I guess if you want…” Hanna slumped down like her soul left her.
“I’m just kidding,” I said and looked back at the display, "But… hmm… okay, fine. But first come stand right here.” I motioned for her to stand in front of the display.
“...” She gave me a confused look.

“Just a precaution, come now… And don’t freak out.”
I grabbed her hand and guided her to the front of the display. I stood behind her slightly to the left and reached forward with my left hand and touched the orb.

“WHAAmh mf hmf mfhg!” Hanna tried to scream out in pure shock but her mouth was instantly covered by my right hand.
“Yes, yes, let it all out of your system.” I moved my left hand from the orb and grabbed her around her waist instead.
There we go, one pinned down guild staff. Can't scream, can't run away. She will probably calm down soon, right?
After a few seconds she seemed to calm down so I leaned forward over her shoulder. “You calmed down now?” Hanna gave me a nod. “Okay then.” I slowly removed my right hand from her mouth.
“Y-You’re a dragon?”
“That’s what it says.”
“And a queen…”
“Only on a technicality.”
“What does that mean?”
“You see a lot of dragons around to rule over?”
“Are there other dragons?”
“I have no idea.” I said and looked at the display. "But enough about that, can you do something about this?”
“Yeah I, hmm… Well… I don’t know if I’m qualified for this.” Hanna said while looking at the display over and over.
“Hey now, you said you wanted to be here. I’m trusting you to figure this out.”
“I just didn’t think you would have something absurd like this to show.”
“Don’t you think the fact that I punched a hole in the barrier was some kind of hint?”
“Wait, that's how you went through the barrier?!” She looked back at the display, "I guess with stats like that the barrier might as well have been made of paper…”
“Right, so, can you change the name to Luna and remove my title please? What about race, can that be changed? And class? I don’t have one so it’s not like I can choose one in the same advancement tree.”
“Honestly I think it would be best if I went and got the guildmaster, she should be back now.” Hanna said and looked apologetic.
“Might as well get this over with. Should I wait here?”
“Yes please,” Said Hanna and pushed a button on the device, making the display go dark, "it will only take a moment.”
Hanna scuttled away towards the guildmaster’s office.
I guess it wouldn’t be the end of the world if a few people found out that I’m a dragon. I’m strong enough to end the world, I doubt there is anything any humans can do. Would be a problem if I was refused service or entry to towns though.
Hanna came back with a woman in tow after a minute.
By the looks of it she could be around thirty years old? Isn’t that young for a guildmaster? The waist long turquoise hair almost makes her look like an elf. Her ears are round though. Also never met an elf, do they even exist in this world? I thought it was only humans but with beastkin around elves should be possible, right?
“Nice to meet you, I’m the guildmaster of the Baruda branch. My name is Chloe.”
“I’m Luna, likewise.”
“Now Hanna said you had some… circumstances that you needed help with.”
“Circumstances, really?” I looked at Hanna. "Sigh, yeah I guess you could say that.” I turned towards the device and put my hand on the orb, "I hope I don’t have to pin you down as well.”
The display shone and displayed my status again.
“So… as you can see there are some slight issues here.”
Chloe looked at the display for a while before she finally spoke, "Yes, uhm, I can see a few issues.”
“So what do you suggest? I don’t think having that race on my guild card will be a good idea.”
“It shouldn’t be a big issue, probably. I have never encountered this particular problem before but,” She took out her own guild card and put it into a slot on the back of the device, "This should work.”
She chose the *Race* option and it gave her the option to type something else.
Admin override powers? Now that is handy!
“Okay let's start from the top. Are you happy with the name?
“Change it to Luna, please. You can also remove the title.”
She looked me up and down. “And race, I suppose human? That leaves the class option, any idea what you want to be?”
“Uhm, I don’t really know all the classes, is there some kind of list?”
Chloe pressed a few buttons and a new window popped up on the display, "These are all the classes.”
“Wow, uh, okay this is a very long list. Is there a sorting option, like only showing the highest tier or something?”
She pressed a few more buttons and the list got considerably shorter, "This should be all the highest tier classes in each tree.”
Hanna piped up from the sidelines. “Oh! Dragon Knight sounds cool!”
“Sounds like someone that made armor out of my scales to me.”
“What about Dragon Rider?” She followed up.
“I can’t ride myself you know…”
What happened to the levelheaded bubbly receptionist? Did I seriously break the poor girl?
I looked through the list of classes before noticing something that sounded interesting. “Lightning Evoker, what’s that?”
Chloe opened the description. “Tier 7 spellcaster, focuses on grand area lightning magic.”
“That sounds like something I could be.”
“It’s a class I have never seen before.”
“Then let’s go with that one please.”
Chloe operated the device and after about a minute she pulled out my card and gave it to me, "A tier 7 G rank card…”
“I completely forgot!” Hanna said and turned to Chloe. "Guildmaster, about the dungeon...”
“We are still waiting for a reply from the capital. We can’t do much until they can send at least three A ranks to investigate. Whatever broke the barrier is-”
“Ah, no… the thing is,” Hanna interrupted and glanced at me, "The barrier got destroyed because Luna, uhm, punched it…”
Chloe looked at me and I just gave her my best smile. “... Let's go to my office.”
