Chapter 79: Damned if you do, damned if you don't

Chapter 79: Damned if you do, damned if you don't

System: Congratulations! You have level up. You gained 3 base points and 1 skill point.

As soon as the Sorting Hat Spider fell, Ye Yan heard the system notification telling him that he had leveled up.

Ye Yan was really surprised by it because he had reached level 8 just yesterday and thought it would take at least until tomorrow for him to get one level.

The experience he got from the mausoleum was huge. Ye Yan was killing monster two levels higher than him alone and many were elite at the very minimum. And he even killed a Lord-level monster in the end.

Even if killing monster two levels higher than him didn't give a bonus in experience, the amount it gives is higher than level 8 monsters. And the amount of experience he got from the elite monster and bosses was too huge. The last boss alone gave 1,200 experience points.

However now, Ye Yan didn't have time to be happy with his level up or get his loot. The only thing he has in mind now is how he can get out of the room as fast as possible. If he stays in the room a little more time, he will die for sure because of mercury poisoning.

The problem is that he is on a small isle now and his vision is very bad. Now, he only depends on his memory to get out of there. Luckily, he has been paying attention to his surroundings all the time while he was fighting the boss, so he has a notion about where he is now.

When the boss was almost dead, he had jumped to the area near the entrance of the chamber, thus he must be near the doors. The problem is how he will get there.

If he steps on the mercury river, he will die on the spot, and if he doesn't move, he will die after a few more minutes. Now, he can perfectly understand the phrase 'Damned if you do, damned if you don't'.

He needs to jump to get out of there but not only he has no idea where he will land, but also he almost can feel his legs to do so.

[A blind jump with numb legs. It's just too great!] Ye Yan wanted to be positive but even his thoughts have gained a sarcasm intonation.

When Ye Yan was going to fall in despair, he remembers something and looked up.

The artificial sky on the cellar was made in a way that the stars can shine like the real sky and each of the four sides has the representation of one of the legendary beasts painted on it, decorated with many precious gems.

Ye Yan cannot see the paintings and the stars are so blurred that the stars of the constellations turned into a single thing in his eyes. However, he can identify the color of the blurs.

Except for the white blur from the stars, Ye Yan can see two colored blurs, blue and red, representing the Dragon and Phoenix. The gems in the black tortoise are black and can't be seen shining and the gems on the White Tiger are of the same color as the stars, thus can't be identified by Ye Yan's eyes.

From what he remembers, the Azure Dragon was painted above the double doors of the chamber's entrance. Thus, he has to go in the blue blur direction. Now, the question is how he will do it.

Ye Yan wants to hit his head on something to see if he can get the answer. But he will only get a concussion with he does it.

He starts getting impatient because he doesn't know how to get out of his predicament and starts to tap his close fan on his left hand. If he could see things around him, he would be walking from one side to the other now.

Suddenly, an idea comes to his mind and he taps the fan on his head thinking about how stupid he is that he hadn't thought of it before.

He first hit the ground with his fan while listening to identify the sound, and after that, he threw it not far from him, where he is sure that there is liquid mercury for him to find out how is the sound of the fan hitting it.

Ye Yan concentrates to use what's left of his senses to the max and threw his fan to the east, the side representing by the Azure Dragon.

The first time he threw the fan to help find his way out, he could hear a very light sound. This means that the fan has reached the liquid mercury. He pulled the fan back and thanked the auto-clean function of the weapon, or it would be completely contained by the mercury.

He threw it again and this time there was a different sound. It was very low because Ye Yan can hear almost nothing but he could differentiate it from the sound before. This sound was very similar to when he hit the ground.

He pulled the fan back and measured the wire to know the distance he has to jump. It would be so simple if there was something that he could wrap the silver wire to get to the other side.

Ye Yan took a deep breath and took a leap of faith. If he gets it right, he will land on another isle, if not, he will be fucked, having to do start from the very beginning again.

It's a pity that there is no haystack for him to land after his leap of faith like in other games.

The leap took only three seconds, but during this short time many things passed through Ye Yan's mind, most of them being words not good for children to hear, and he felt imaginary cold sweat running down his back.

When he landed safely, He smiled and sighing with relief. He looked in the dragon's direction and finally saw the double doors. it was very blurry but he could identify it. Thankfully, he will need only one more jump to get there.

Ye Yan gave another leap and landed on the marble floor. he looked around a found out that he almost died because he landed only two feet away from the border.

After landing, Ye Yan didn't waste time and walked out of the room, trying to get as far as possible from there.

When he got out of the chamber, he heard a system notification saying he was in a safe place and that the mercury poisoning level would start to decrease now.

After he heard it, Ye Yan threw himself on the floor, feeling nothing while doing so because his entire body is numb. He has lost almost all sense of touch.

The last few minutes were very exhausting for him and he just wants to rest a little. He doesn't even want to move a finger now.

He just hopes that no one will appear here to stole his loot because he had to leave everything there.

While he was resting, the astronomer ghost appeared in front of him. He was so happy that he started to laugh and if he wasn't a ghost, Ye Yan suspected that he would try to kiss himself.

The ghost looked at Ye Yan and noticed that he would move soon, and even wanting to confront the emperor's ghost now, he decided to wait because it wouldn't be fun to tramp over the emperor if he can't show it to anyone. Thus, he started pacing in the room.

After a few minutes, Ye Yan was cured and could enter the chamber again. He was not only anxious to get his rewards but he can't stand the astronomer ghost anymore.

The ghost was so excited and anxious that he couldn't stop walking and say how anxious and excited he was as if it wasn't obvious. Not only it, but he was pacing in circles around Ye Yan.

If the astronomer wasn't a ghost, Ye Yan would make him into one without a doubt.

The first thing he did when he entered the chamber was going straight to the spider's corpse.

Ye Yan was pleasantly surprised when he saw all the loot he got. For the first time in the game, Ye Yan felt that he got lucky with something. He has to always work hard to get things in the game, and he often got almost nothing in return.

Even when the chances are high of getting an item, he sometimes gets nothing or is suited to someone else. If people don't prioritize the tank in dungeons, he wouldn't be wearing a complete equipment set right now.

He looked at the items that dropped from the boss satisfied. First, he stored the Witch's powder in his space bag. it is an essential item for making the Wonder potion, and the only way for him to get it now is by killing the Sorting hat Spider.

After he put the item in a safe place, he looked at the other goods.
