Chapter 31: Wild Technique (1)
Chapter 31: Wild Technique (1)
Amanda and Celia joined the fray and fired ice arrows toward the beast. Still, before the projectiles could land, the monster’s fur stood up and then emitted a burst of wind that stopped them. The girls frowned in shock… against an enemy like that. Their attacks were essentially useless.
“Don’t stop!” Luthi said. “A monster like that can block long-ranged attacks for long!”
While they were preparing to attack again, Luke was clenching his teeth since he was being overwhelmed by the massive beast, and he couldn’t retreat and use Stinger. Without any other choice, he bent his right knee a little bit and then kicked the beast’s chin with his left leg. He felt like he had hit concrete… but it seemed that the attack worked since he saw the red and angry eyes of the starving wolf glaring at him viciously.
The monster suddenly raised its head and began to raise Luke’s sword. He tried to fight back and avoided being raised by the beast was stronger. Without any other choice, Luke used Stinger in that position and made the beast’s fangs crack a little bit. That caused some damage since the starving wolf stopped its attempt to raise him in the air. In the next moment, a barrage of ice arrows fell on the creature. While the beast tried to repel with some weird wind magic, it didn’t do it for long. Eventually, several arrows landed on the monster and made it feel the power of ice. The grip of the beast on the sword weakened, and Luke used that chance to retreat. He didn’t do so for long, though. He soon charged back at the enemy again with Stinger. The attack shattered the monster’s fangs making it grunt in agony. Luke’s sword eventually pierced the interior of the monster’s mouth and made it spat a lot of blood, but it wasn’t enough to kill it. What did the trick be some ice arrows that landed on the monster’s head?

Luke sighed in relief… while that was another battle that didn’t last long, the enemy was only finished soon because he wasn’t alone. In any case, when Luke used Appraisal on Celia and Amanda, he noticed that their mana was almost empty. That opponent had been troublesome in many ways, not to mention, other zombies were approaching to make things more complicated. Fortunately, the boss dropped something… a wand.

A light and red wand enchanted with the power of the fire spirits. It grants the user the chance to use Fireball Lv 01.
INT + 05, FOC + 3
Durability: 10/10
It was a fucking rare weapon! That was completely useless to Luke since he focused on increasing his physical strength… not his magical powers. In the end, he tossed it toward Celia to make her more useful.
“You owe me one,” Luke said and then prepared to face the approaching zombies.
It didn’t take long for Luke to confirm that he did the right thing. One of the monsters that approached was a fat zombie that had even more health than him. However, once she recovered enough mana, Celia used Fireball on the monster, and the creature began to melt after a couple of seconds… The zombie died without being able to do anything.
“Power… I need more power!” Luke muttered as he put all his stats points into strength.
One might think that focusing solely on strength like that seemed like a bad idea. Most rational people would think that, but Luke wasn’t exactly a brainiac. The idea of facing a monster that could stop his attacks even when Rina buffed his strength annoyed the heck out of him… Still, while Luke might have made a mistake, he needed a lot less stamina to destroy the zombies’ heads now.
“Nice, Luke,” Shalia said while smiling viciously. “Let your spirit run wild and show them who is the strongest!”
“You know… there is no point in having absurdly high strength if you find an enemy that is twice as fast,” Rina said.
Luke realized that Rina had a point. Still, he couldn’t let a brain-dead monster overpower him again. In any case, when some Fire Zombies appeared, Luke confirmed that he did the right thing at the moment when he used Stinger and destroyed their heads before they could do anything. At least against that type of enemy, he could fight well.

…
“I need a physical strength that will grant me the chance to attack more than one zombie at a time…” Luke thought as he watched continuous waves of zombies approaching the group.
“We need to retreat…” Amanda said. “We are out of mana.”
“That is why you shouldn’t rely on magic alone…” Luke furrowed his eyebrows.
After killing a few dozen zombies, Luke looked around and didn’t find any drop, so the group retreated. At that rate, they will never reach the airport. In that kind of situation, they had to use the environment and other tools in their favor… However, Luke didn’t have the chance to come up with anything since they only retreated five hundred meters, and the zombies still were moving toward them.
“If you guys want to keep fighting longer without using physical skills, you will have to increase your focus,” Jake said.
“There is no need for you to say that,” Luthi said, visibly displeased. “I already alerted them of that.”
“Speaking of which, you can buff her, right?” Luke asked. “Are you already doing that?”
“It isn’t the time…” Luthi said.
Those ordinary elves were really a bunch of worrywarts. As if humans had time to waste thinking about the means to increase their power… they had to use all of them.
