Vol. 2 - Chapter 7.1 - Instructor Leos' Lesson (1)
(Suzuki, please stay safe! I'll also do my best!)
Nephira continued to fold bats in the imperial castle. While shaking off the doubts that sometimes would emerge, such as, "I wonder if this is a waste of time," or "What am I even doing?"
When she realized it, there was already a mountain of folded origami bats standing tall.
A skeleton soldier walked up to Nephira, who was absorbed in her origami folding, stepped, and bowed to her.
"Lady Nephira! Lady Kiru and three hundred elite soldiers from the Thunder-Lance Charge have arrived at the demon capital!"
"Ah– is that so!? Shut up!"
"Eh–, ah–? M-My apologies!!"
Seemingly sad with slumped shoulders, the skeleton soldier stepped back. While physically exhausted and mentally fatigued, Nephira nevertheless picked up another piece of black parchment and continued to fold absent-mindedly.
And then soon...
"I-I did it!! It's done!! DONE–!!"
Finally, Nephira had done it. She had folded and folded once again until 666 bats were done. With perfect timing, Kiru appeared in front of Nephira.
"Sorry to keep you waiting—! …I mean, what in hell are you doing, Lady Nephira?"
"It's 666 black bats. I had just, completed them!!"
"Is this a prayer for success in this war? But that is FAKE news!"
Kiru said with a smile on her face.
(Seriously! Both Serphiano and Kiru are non-believers! Aren't they?)
However, satisfied with her accomplishment, Nephira never lost her smug face.
"I don't mind if you are a believer or a non-believer. However, this is an ancient spell passed from generation to generation. It always works without exception."

"No, like I said, it's a complete sham. It was me and Meru who spread the rumor about the 666 bats."
"…Eh?"
"About 20 years ago, in our spare time, Meru and I came up with the idea together, you know?! A bullshit story that if you folded 666 bats of origami, your wish would come true! Then everyone really started folding origami bats! I had a great laugh with Meru!"
"Y-Yo-You–…"
A thunderous aura of lightning, "baribari," surged out from Nephira's body.
"You came up with iii————————itt!!"
The surging lightning set the mountain of bats ablaze. Nephira grabbed Kiru by the chest.
"I-I'm sorry–! I didn't think even Lady Nephira would fall for it!"
"Shut up! Give me back the time I spent folding bats!"
"Yaah–!? Please stop pulling my clothes off!!"
Nephira tugged at Kiru's clothing without hesitation. Kiru apologized to Nephira, trying to prevent her bosom from showing, but Nephira's anger did not abate.
"Give me back my time! Give me back Suzuki too–!"
"S-Suzuki!? What did you do to Suzuki!?"
"He was snatched up by Duma, and he hasn't returned yet! UHWhaa aa aa aa aa aa a–!!"
"Eeh–!? But if that is the case, isn't Suzuki right over there!!?"
"Eh…"
Nephira's eyes rolled into the back of her head when she saw what was at the end of the tip of Kiru's finger. In front of the door, Suzuki stood together with Serphiano with an apologetic look on his face. Excella was also next to him.
"UHWhaa aa aa aa aa aa!? Suzukiiiiiiiiii!?"
"Nephira. I'm back."
Was it a dream? Or an illusion? As soon as she had completed the 666 bats, Suzuki had returned.
Nephira turned excited and hit "banban" on Kiru's shoulder.
"See? See! It was successful! Hey– hey–!"
"N-No—. I think it was just a coincidence."
(What are you saying by just a coincidence!!? My love got across! I'm sure that's what happened!!)
Then, as if flood gates had been opened, Nephira dashed forward and embraced Suzuki.
"Are you hurt!? Did you eat!? Did you poop properly!?"
"…I did..."
Suzuki said this with a sad smile on his face.
(Ah, huh? Normally, if I hugged him, he would get embarrassed?)
Her love got across… does not appear to be the reason. Suzuki simply was not in good spirits. If you looked closely, you could notice that his right hand was bandaged.
"H-Hey. What happened to your finger?"
"Nothing at all"
Then, Suzuki hung his head down. Serphiano showed a troubled look on her face.
"I'm sure he has been through a lot. Let him comfortably rest for now."
"T-That's right, isn't it?"
"Nevertheless, Suzuki. Please tell us just one thing. What happened to Duma after departing?"
When asked by Serphiano, Suzuki told the story of how Duma had fallen into the ocean. Nephira listened with a look as if she was biting down on a bitter bug.
"Fuun! That Duma bastard! She got what she deserved!"
"Eh, uhm. So, does that mean that the Immortal Fleet has been lost?"
Instead of Nephira, who was furious, Kiru asked Serphiano.
"No. Even if her body were to be chopped into a hundred pieces, given enough time, Duma will be able to pull her parts together and bring herself back to life."
"She can restore herself after all that!? Insane—! As expected, from a deathless!"
(That means, she might try to mess with Suzuki again, right?)
Nephira tried to reassure Suzuki with a few words.
"Suzuki. From now on, I will strengthen your protection. If necessary, I'll attach a few demons as guards."
"I'll be fine. You don't need to worry!"
As expected, Suzuki said in a dark tone of voice.
"No, but…"
Nephira stopped as she was about to say something.
(T-That's right, isn't it? Something strange happened. He must be exhausted, right? Serphiano is correct. Let's leave him alone for now.)
"I understand. At any rate, you and Excella should go back to Leirune first and recover. We will now suppress the humans' rebellion."
"Meru will be waiting for you in Leirune! Wa-Please, wait there for a bit!"
After Nephira, Kiru gave Suzuki a smiling face.
