Chapter 24 - The Council's Purpose
"Impossible. How can that be! That was not supposed to be until a few millennia later. Why is it coming much earlier?", Eva asked.
"This is not a determined event. It is simply a matter of circumstance. The gods knew that this day would come sooner or later, but they just kept delaying the inevitable, in hope that maybe it wouldn't arrive. But, all of us know that that is just wishful thinking. Why else would we be appointed in a council to govern matters of the mortal realm?", Praneeth said.
"Govern the matter of the mortal realm? That is what we are appointed for? I distinctively remember hearing God say that we were made to ensure that the supernatural creatures did not go out of hand.", Arthur countered.
"And it never occurred to you that all the major problems happened because of these supernatural creatures? Not coincidence. Circumstance.. Power begets horrible things, and that is what we were made to stop. The gods were busy in engagements elsewhere."
"So then, what are we going to do? We can't possibly hope to contain Fenrir without a host. We will have to put him to sleep somehow.", Angela said.

"Put him to sleep? Do you think that a wide-awake Fenrir would allow us to do something to Lucas' body? Keep dreaming. I thought that I was going to walk into a nightmare. Who would have thought it was going to turn into something much worse.", Mu Feng slumped back in his chair.
"Ok, let's not lose hope before we even know the situation properly. Praneeth, you said that Ouroborous was breaking from his shackles. What do you mean? His chains are made from Bone steel, and shackles of adamantium. No god can break from that. How can Loki's offspring do something like that?", Raphael calmed himself and asked Praneeth.
"The world is not a kind place. Do you really think that everyone wants to subvert Ragnarok? There are more than enough people who wish for it to happen immediately, that they would be willing to sacrifice their lives for their cause. They are willing to do anything. A few dwarves Svartalfheim a couple of months ago. They must be focused on taking care of Ourobourous' release."
"So then. What are we going to do? Wait here like sitting ducks? We are just mortals. No matter how much power the gods have given us, how can we go against powers that even gods fear?", Arthur sat, dejected.
"How are relations between Fenrir and Ouroborous? Last I remember, they did not go down well last time they met.", Michael suddenly said.
"What are you implying, Michael? I know that you are a Lucas fan boy, but trusting the red wolf is a no go from me. I will never use the power of an entity born solely for destruction.", Arthur scoffed.
"Why?", Praneeth suddenly asked.
"Why? What do you mean why? Fenrir is literally the God Devouring Wolf. He goes against everything that we stand for.", Arthur shouted.
"What do we stand for? Your stubborn righteousness might be well minded, but it will not do any good when we go against our enemies. Who knows how many followers of the destruction path will try to destroy the only remaining order in the world, and get total control of Midgard? Fenrir could be a proper solution to all this.", Praneeth nodded at Michael.
"What the hell is wrong with the both of you? You are talking about using Fenrir, a beast that is at the center piece of Ragnarok according to all the books, and pit it against it's very nature? This is not a play we are talking about. There is no second chance if your gamble goes wrong. This is ragnarok! One wrong step, and kaboom. Not you and me, the whole world ends.", Arthur raised his voice.
Splatter! A cup fell on the ground. Everyone looked at the door, and their faces changed. Blood ran out of Michael's face as he muttered, "Lucas."
