Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Hey everyone~ its Kiriko! This is a new project that I just happened to come across on the NU forums and it seemed pretty interesting so I decided to give it a try! The RAW is only 6 chapters in, so when I catch up to them itll have to be the waiting game, but until then I plan on releasing once a week on Mondays until I catch up to the RAWs. I hope everyone enjoys the story! The first chapter has been translated already as a teaser by Rosies Translations, so you can read it here. Enjoy!

I do not have a PhD in the history of the Earth, but I know of the rough course of events.

The moon should have been created not long after the Earth was born.

In other words, there was still about 4.6 billion years until the human race is born.

I shuddered.

This was bad.

Though my soul had changed since I became a mountain, I did not think I could withstand 4.6 billion years of solitude.

My mind will collapse if I dont have anyone to talk to.

Thus, I tried to create a conversational partner.

I sucked up the heat from the magma and stored the excess energy within the crystal while maintaining its original nature.

Here, for several hundreds or thousands of years, Earth was transformed into a scorching hot hell, and I was attacked countless times by magma tsunamis, while receiving direct hits from small meteorites.

The abnormally vast heat energy rapidly changed, and the crystal grew to the size of a gymnasium.

If I use this mysterious energy, then I should be able to create life. After all, its the energy from the collision of the giant meteorite that created the moon. It was absorbed and purified by the mountain, and holds a paranormal power. Itll be easy to create one or two lives from this.

At first, I was thinking about creating humans, but I soon changed my mind.

Right now Earth was a world of scorching heat. Your lungs will get roasted just from breathing, and your entire body will be covered in flames in no time at all. Theyd probably go extinct three seconds after being created. Itll need to be a creature that can withstand super high temperatures.

Their bodies have to be incredibly sturdy. There are still a lot of small meteorites raining down. Even if they arent hit directly by them, there is still a danger of being blown away by the aftershocks, or falling into the fissures of the unstable ground.

They have to be able to survive even without food. If they continue to live on my mountainside, then Ill be able to keep them full with the crystals energy, but itll probably feel too constrained for them if they cant leave the mountain at all.

They have to live for a long time. Since theyll be my conversational partners for the next billion years or so, if they die after a few decades and are succeeded by their children, then those that know me will continually disappear. If a continuous barrage of cycles of meetings and partings occurs over and over again, then my heart will break.

On that note, after considering all those trivialities, I made a dragon.

Its fine even with this burning atmosphere, it has scales and a skeleton capable of withstanding the impact of small meteorites, and like me it grows from absorbing the energy from the magma, so it has an infinite lifespan. It also has the intelligence to be able to converse.

Since it was the first creature I created, there was a bit of trial and error involved, but it went pretty well.

The husband and wife dragon pair that I created sucked up the heat from the scorching world and grew. They were born about the size of a puppy, but in the blink of an eye became the size of a horse, then an elephant, then exceeded that of a whale, growing big enough that I had to look up at them. Without paying any heed to the meteorites or the splashing magma, the dragons danced powerfully in the red sky, allowing me to feel a definite sense of life from this hell-like world.

As a conversational partner, they were okay.

Likely, because I felt bad about tying them to the mountain (me) and turning them into subordinates, I tried to make them as free as possible. In addition to that, because I just distributed my knowledge, I failed in giving them the ability to learn. When breeding, they definitely will return to the mountain and I was able to talk to them about various things at those times, but normally they would be flying freely around all of Earth.

Since they lacked the ability to learn, the contents of their conversation was pretty much the same no matter how many hundreds or thousands of years passed, but well, it couldnt really be helped. Compared to the years of loneliness when I didnt have anyone to talk with, it was much better.

I cheered on the dragons way of life, and the dragons took me as their Creator, depending on my land to build their nests.

However, the peace did not last for long.

The dragons ability to suck up heat and store it to grow was a disposition markedly inherited from me. I similarly could store energy within the crystal in my body. However, while my crystal was transparent, the dragons crystal was crimson. It was probably because they were an existence that specializes in heat.

Because they had no natural enemies, the dragons prospered greatly. While there were some dragons that died after being hit by a large enough meteorite than they could handle, that was a very rare event, so they basically did not die at all.

They went from two to four, then four to eight. From eight their numbers went to sixteentheir numbers were exponentially increasing like rats. While they were set to breed about once every thousand years, by the time a few ten thousands of years passed, it got to the point where Earths skies were completely filled up. There was no longer any skies without dragons.

I made it so that the dragons would not breed any further. The dragons will definitely build their nests on my mountainside. Because while they were able to [grow] autonomously, in order to [breed], they absolutely needed the energy from my crystal. It was clear that if this creature that was incredibly hard to kill with an infinite lifespan continued to multiply, the Earth would be buried in them, so I absolutely had to put countermeasures to control their propagation.

The dragons expressed displeasure at this. They thought that their freedom to love had been stolen away.

Their displeasure became anger in the blink of an eye, and then that turned into a revolt. The dragons attacked me, and in order to thrive further, they tried to steal my crystal that was buried deep underground.

I am a mountain. My body is made of rock. The dragons claws merely grazed me, and even if they blew fire at me, it merely caused some fusion of my rockface.

However, being attacked by all the dragons on Earth without having any rest at all wasnt easy.

I did nothing but absorb the enormous heat within the scorching world and grew until my height went up to tens of thousands of metres above sea level.

That height was visibly whittled down and melted until I became smaller and smaller. The dragons were also a mighty existence that absorbed the enormous heat of the scorching world to grow. I was at a disadvantage. In reality, since the dragons appeared, the cooling of the Earth had accelerated.

I repeatedly tried to talk with the dragons, but they did not accept. They took advantage of the fact that I did not counterattack at all, and all of them started to compete in whittling me down to see who would obtain the mountains crystal first.

The mountains crystal was my core. While it was still safe if I distributed parts of it around, if the entire crystal was stolen away, then I would die.

I weakened and said that Id give them a portion of it if theyd stop attacking, but they just sneered at me.

The dragons were greedy. Several tens of thousands of years passed, and I did not get angry even once. The dragons grew arrogant, and started to underestimate me. It was my mistake in giving them such a large power that it wasnt strange even if they became arrogant.

I warned them. Even I dont want to die. If they did not stop attacking, then I would fight back, is what I said.

The dragons did not even lend an ear to my words.

I decided to counterattack. My mountain was whittled down and melted by the swarm of dragons until my height reached five thousand metres above sea level.

Because I am a mountain, I do not have the ability to fight. If we were to discuss my methods of attack, then itd probably be causing earthquakes or erupting, but against the sturdy, flying dragons with a high heat resistance, then neither earthquakes nor eruptions would work.

I instead needed someone who would become my defender, an existence that could fight against the dragons.

I created a creature whose body imitated those of humans.

It resembled a human, but-

It was sturdier than a human,

Stronger against heat than a human,

Had a long life,

Was free, but-

Loved the mountain,

It was such a being.

I gave her a powerful weapon made of majority of the mountains crystal.

It will absolutely not melt,

It will absolutely not break,

It will absolutely not be stolen,

And it will definitely be able to strike down the dragons that danced in the sky.

I gave her such a weapon.

I named her the first human, [Sahela], and named the weapon [Mjlnir].

She let out her first cries inside the mountain, and then stood and soon took the weapon in hand, her crimson hair fluttering as she rushed outside.

Sahela had a small enough frame that she was able to run through the narrow tunnels that the dragons could not invade within the mountain.

And then, a one-sided battle against the dragons began.
