Chapter 35
C35 – We also Have Alchemists
Yun Haoyan couldn’t help but smile as he called out loudly:
“Master, please come out now!”
“What is it, Yun Haoyan?” Miao Hujin entered with a hearty laugh.
The elders and Yun Haoyan’s father turned their attention to the venerable figure before them.
Yun Hai quickly approached the elder and offered a respectful bow.
“Excuse me, sir, are you the master Yun Haoyan spoke of?”
Miao Hujin, stroking his beard, gave a confirming nod.
“Indeed, I am Yun Haoyan’s master. My name is Miao Hujin.”
All eyes were on Miao Hujin, whose presence exuded an air of distinction. It was clear at a glance that he was a genuine powerhouse, a true authority, far beyond the Alchemist from the Bian family.
Naturally, Miao Hujin was a Pill King with strength that had reached the Martial King realm, a renowned figure across the entire Sunbaked Land.
He was simply being himself.
“May I inquire about your level of strength…” an elder asked, his curiosity piqued.

Miao Hujin smiled and replied, “Which strength are you referring to—my alchemical prowess or my martial cultivation?”
“Both,” the elder admitted, somewhat sheepishly. It was quite impolite to ask about someone’s strength so directly.
Miao Hujin let out a hearty laugh before responding, “As a Martial Cultivator, I am at the Grand Martial Master level, and in the realm of alchemy, I hold the title of Grand Alchemist.”
This was the story agreed upon by Yun Haoyan and Miao Hujin, as Miao Hujin’s current injuries prevented him from revealing the full extent of his abilities.
“Grand Martial Master!” The elders gasped in astonishment. The Yun family had gained the allegiance of a Grand Martial Master.
“What exactly does the Grand Alchemist level entail?” asked an elder timidly.
In Silkbarrow, Alchemists were few and far between, and with no prior exposure to them, the elders were clueless about the significance of the Grand Alchemist level.
Just then, a maid brought a chair and placed it behind Miao Hujin.
Seizing the moment, Miao Hujin sat down, but upon noticing that Yun Haoyan and his father remained standing, he quickly rose to his feet again.
“Let me explain the different levels of Pill Masters to you,” I began.
“Essentially, an Alchemist’s rank corresponds with that of Martial Cultivators. The rank of the pills you craft determines your own rank as an Alchemist. If the pills you produce are suitable for individuals of a certain level, then you are considered an Alchemist of that level.
Take myself, for instance. As a Grand Alchemist, I’m capable of concocting Qi Gathering Pills that enhance the power of a Grand Martial Master.
In contrast, the Alchemist from the Bian family can only produce Qi Increasing Pills that boost the strength of a Martial Master, which makes him simply an Alchemist.”
Understanding dawned on the elders as they nodded in agreement.
“Above the rank of Grand Alchemist, there are Pill Grandmasters, Pill Spiritual Masters, and Pill Kings. As for the realms beyond that, there’s no point in knowing about them now.
This hierarchy is similar to that of Martial Cultivators: Martial Spirit, Martial King.”
“I see. Thank you for clearing up our confusion,” they responded.
The elders and my father all offered their respects to Miao Hujin.
Miao Hujin quickly lifted them to their feet, chuckling, “I am Yun Haoyan’s master, and since you are all his seniors, we should consider ourselves peers.”
“But that’s not acceptable,” they protested. “You’re a Grand Martial Master and a Grand Alchemist. Your status far exceeds ours; we must show you the respect you deserve.”
The elders spoke as one.
“Let it go,” Yun Haoyan said with a grin. “My master is quite laid-back. There’s no need for excessive modesty—it only invites ridicule.”
“That’s not how it works,” they insisted. “The strong must abide by certain codes. We can’t disregard these and become the subject of mockery.”
“How about we compromise? We’ll address you as Elder Miao. Would that be acceptable?” Yun Hai suggested.
“Fine, let’s settle on that,” Miao Hujin agreed, smiling.
Pretending to be Yun Haoyan’s master had already been a source of anxiety for him; he certainly wasn’t about to let them elevate him any further.
