Chapter 3
Why Shouldn’t I Eat an Extra Ham Sausage?
Lin Wan could smell the food next door. Her third stepson leaned against the door frame and looked at the courtyard.
Compared to his eldest brother, who rolled his eyes and didn’t say anything, and his second brother, who was sulking in protest, the youngest son, Li Zekai, was much more pleasing to the eye and had less of an attitude.
“Auntie, aren’t you going to cook? The live broadcast has already started. ”
Lin Wan had been sitting in the car for half a day. Now, she wanted to find someone to cook the food for her. ‘Was this a joke? She agreed to attend the show as a friend. Why were they pushing her so much?’
But she couldn’t reject him directly. Besides, he was the only one in the family who talked to her. Since he talked to her kindly, she decided to work hard. She tried to start the fire but even after half an hour, she didn’t succeed in lighting the clay stove.
“I’m done,” she finally said.
It was the first meal of ‘We Are Also Very Ordinary’ live broadcast. The other four families all had cooked a delicious meal. But Lin Wan took out a few compressed biscuits and two ham sausages.
“One piece of compressed biscuit each. Only Zekai and I will have ham sausages. I’m a woman, and Zekai is still growing, so he needs more nutrition.”
Lin Wan still felt like they had eaten too much. Now, she only had ten biscuits and four sausages left for the next meal.
The director’s team was stunned by this move. However, the live broadcast couldn’t be cut, and they had no choice but to show the whole thing. It should be made clear that many audiences were supportive towards Li Zexuan despite everything that had happened.
Li Zexuan turned his back to the camera and threw away the biscuit. Even if he starved to death, he wouldn’t eat the d*mn thing. However, he still acted like he didn’t care when facing the camera. Li Zexin knew when to fight and when to hold back. He had been eating this dry food for three days and three nights when he spent his time mostly online. Li Zekai purposely faced the camera, as if he wanted everyone to know he was eating a sausage.
The fans were furious:
[Xuanxuan, is this even edible? Throw it at her face. I’ll order takeaway for you]

[She’s indeed a vicious stepmother. She gave her child compressed biscuits while she ate a sausage. She must be doing this on purpose.]
[Only our Xuanxuan has a good temper. Who wouldn’t be angry at this?]
In sharp contrast was Wheatley’s family. Wheatley was a new child star. In fifth grade, she shot for milk advertisements and was recognized by director Emo. From then on, her path as a child star became brighter and brighter.
She had dark eyes, wore a white dress and tied up her hair in a simple ponytail. Although she was a year younger than Li Zexin, she looked more mature. Wheatley’s father was a fitness coach and ran many fitness centers in the county. Her stepmother was the children’s clothing streamer, Qianqian Nannan, who was considered a small internet celebrity. They were chosen by the program team this time. It was still unknown who was the one who had the advantage, but in order to attract fans, the two of them did their best to perform and played the role of a model mother and daughter who loved each other in the live broadcast.
In front of the camera, Wheatley’s speech and behavior were natural and unrestrained, and she got along well with her stepmother. Other than Li Zexuan’s family, Wheatley’s family was the second most popular in the live stream.
[We’re both stepmothers, but Wheatley’s house is much better. We have both fish and meat.]
[Wheatley’s mother’s eyes are so gentle. As expected of an owner of a children’s clothing store. She has natural patience for children. What’s the name of her store again? I want to lock it down.]
[Wheatley’s good behavior is also a plus point, okay? Who wouldn’t love a daughter like her? Speaking of which, Wheatley’s face is so meaty. I really want to pinch it. I love it to death; I love it to death.]
[I was worried that Wheatley’s stepmother married Wheatley’s father to make use of Wheatley’s popularity. Now, it seems that she’s really good to Wheatley. We’re relieved.]
Nannan glanced at the screen and put in more effort in her performance. She circled around Wheatley and called her ‘baby’ repeatedly, making Wheatley shiver.
[In comparison, our Xuanxuan is miserable. Even on live broadcast, she seems lawless. One can only imagine how she must usually abuse the children.]
[She’s so shameless. What right does she have to eat an extra ham?]
[Li Zekai, that idiot, he was bribed by a ham sausage. He’s so happy calling her ‘Auntie’. Doesn’t he know that his two brothers are hungry?]
[The cub is innocent. He’s just a little naive. Just diss Lin Wan, but don’t diss our Xuanxuan’s brother.]
[I suspect that this woman is trying to drive a wedge between them. She’s treating her third son differently because she wants them to turn against each other.]
[I’m afraid when I think about it.]
That night, Lin Wan was bashed for eating an extra sausage and became a hot topic for search.
Lin Wan glanced at the bullet screen and didn’t think much of it. In her original world, keyboard warriors were much more ruthless than this. Why was being selfish considered so bad? She took it as a compliment. Every man for himself.
...
Back in country H, it was already 10pm by the time Li Yanchen had finished his meeting. The man had bought a ticket back to Yun City overnight. He guessed that his son must be disappointed in him. He was late again. Even though he had promised to be there, he hadn’t shown up. No one had called him either.
In the departure hall, the man turned on the live broadcast. The screen was filled with curses, and his eyebrows twitched. He took a closer look and saw that Lin Wan had appeared in the live broadcast room. ‘Why is she there? She always avoids appearing in public.’.
Li Yanchen ‘s temples throbbed. Bidding documents worth hundreds of millions had never given him such a headache even after three days of war of words. After being stunned for a few seconds, he called Assistant Qin. “If I see those things on the hot search again after I land, you don’t have to come to the company tomorrow. I will give you two hours.”
After hanging up, the man raised his head slightly. His bright and clean face was cold and angular, and no emotion could be seen in his deep eyes.
Secretary Han, who stood at the side, felt the cold aura around his boss and did not dare to breathe. In the past, when Li Zexuan was on the hot search, the boss had never stepped in. He had always been disdainful and ignored it. But now, he was angry. He spoke calmly but his words were ruthless.
Secretary Han wondered if what the world said was true. That he had forgotten about his ex-wife and had his heart tainted by lust.
“Secretary Han, is there anything else you don’t know about the new project?” A hoarse, tired but unusually tough voice asked.
“No, no,” Secretary Han thought that his boss was in a very bad mood and was going to punish him, so he clenched his fingers.
“I’ll leave this project to you, then. I won’t be in the company for the next week. Don’t call me unless the sky is falling or somebody’s dying. The letter of authorization will be sent to the email of all department managers before dawn.” Li Yanchen ‘s eyes were fixed on Han Jiahe, his expression filled with seriousness and authority.
Han Jiahe froze. ‘What did the boss mean? Usually, he would return to the company immediately for a meeting to discuss new projects. Was he going to the festival group?’ When Li Yanchen ‘s name had appeared on the variety show’s name list, the entire company had been in an uproar. There had even been private bets placed on whether Li Yanchen would actually take part in it.
Based on Han Jiahe’s understanding of Li Yanchen, he had firmly bet that he would not ever take part in something like that. When the program started broadcasting today, he had even specially made his stance clear to his colleagues who were of differing opinions. He had done it with the intention of showing off. It had only been a few hours, and the tables had already turned.
“I...” Han Jiahe flinched a little. He couldn’t get his words when he saw his boss’ icy expression. “O-okay.”
