Chapter 281 Protect Or Rob? [6]
Tilting his head to the side confusedly, Ren stared at the djinn in silence for a couple of seconds before curiously asking.
"What is it you want, then?"
Avoiding eye contact with Ren, the djinn looked down at the floor for some time until he finally opened his mouth.
"I-i want to be a human again."
"..."
Ren, even more confused than ever, stared at the djinn's ashamed figure, which was crumbling to the floor.
Contracts between demons and djinns can't be signed forcefully, so the djinn had to have chosen to become one out of his own voalition
Yet...it seems he regrets that choice.
Unfortunately, in this world, there are no do-overs or restarts.
Unless... you're Ren, who basically got a do-ever after he died on Earth and transmigrated to this world.
Realizing something, Ren completely forgot about the djinn in front of him before staring up at the ceiling.
Ren knew how he got here.
How could he not know?
He had been mercilessly run over by some drunk fifty-year-old in the car...truly an unforgettable experience.
Then, the next second, he woke up in the body of Ren, who was about to be expelled from the academy for attacking Liam on the first day of classes.
But what about Lily?
Had she, similar to Ren, also died in a tragic accident and been transmigrated to this world?
Or were her circumstances different?
"Well... I don't think I'm close enough to her to just flat-out ask, 'How did you die in your past life!? Or did you even die?' "
Dismissing all his useless thoughts for now, Ren sighed before looking at the djinn in front of him with concern.
According to Ren's knowledge, which was gained from reading the book, there were no djinn-reversing rituals or potions in this world.

Once you became a djinn, you could never go back.
Though Ren felt some pity for the djinn in front of me, pity wouldn't do anything.
Pointing down into the underground space where the main cast, Kazuki and Kaneki, were still fighting, Ren looked down at the ground.
He knew he was sending the djinn to his death.
Down there, the djinn would surely die at the hands of the humans down there, and there was no escaping that.
Barely opening his mouth, Ren managed to mutter out to the djinn.
"T-there's free djinn to human transformation machines down there..."
Raising his head up, the djinn stared at Ren, his eyes sparkling, before frantically asking.
"Really...is that true? Please tell me it's true."
Ren felt sympathy for the djinn; he really did... but at the same time, the djinn had brought upon himself.
Even after becoming a djinn, the figure willingly joined an evil organization despite knowing the pain and damage they caused to other people.
He had a choice to become someone like Zeng, yet he didn't.
Instead of trying to blend in with humans and make the best of his situation, the djinn joined an evil criminal organization.
And Ren could tell, based on the look in the djinn's eyes as he stared downward, that the djinn had killed before.
Staring at the djinn, Ren nodded his head carefully before muttering out.
"Perhaps...he'll be transmigrated to another world and given a second chance just like when he dies."
As the djinn eagerly jumped from the crater of the ceiling, landing and rejoining the crowd of djinns surrounding the main cast, Ren stepped forward.
He had to get something out of this whole situation now.
There was no way he just sent someone off to their death. Just to get nothing.
Raising his hand, Ren stared at the ceiling before quietly saying.
"This is for you, my djinn friend."
Walking to the edge of the crater in the ceiling, Ren crouched down before manifesting a corrupted bow.
Staring at the top portion of the obsidian door, which was guarded by a watchful recruiter with a spear, Ren slid a corrupted arrow into the strings of the bow.
Aiming at the exact top left of the obsidian door, Ren waited until the recruiter was mid-fight with a djinn before drawing back his bow.
Letting the smooth string go, Ren watched as the corrupted arrow glided by through the air, heading straight at its target.
Distracted by the djinns surrounding him, Kazuki only realized the existence of the arrow as it passed him, as a breeze rushed into his face.
However, it seemed like the recruiter had come prepared, as without a second of hesitation, he cocked back his hand.
Then, in the next second, his hand surged forward, releasing his ice-blue spear right at the pitch-black arrow.
Surprised, Ren blankly stared at the now disarmed recruiter, who was still being surrounded by djinns.
Staring at the spear, Ren calculated its projected trajectory with his eyes before it to the path of his arrow.
Realizing that the spear was going to intercept the arrow before it hit the door, Ren turned around and raised his hand.
As Ren's hand was raised, the corrupted arrow suddenly disintegrated before disappearing a second later.

Feeling the corruption return to his boy, Ren paced around, trying to come up with a new plan on the spot.
Back down below, Kazuki used his legs to kick down the incoming djinns as he was left without his spear.
Glancing to his right, Kazuki attempted to discern whether his spear had knocked the arrow the yet.
However, upon seeing no sign of the arrow anywhere, Kazuki rapidly looked around, trying to find where it had gone.
Raising his hand, Kazuki recalled his spear while headbutting a djinn that had managed to get close enough.
Suddenly, Kazuki's spear switched directions as it stopped flying at the obsidian wall and turned around.
Flying right at Kazuki's hand, the spear somehow impaled a djinn mid-air on its way there.
Seeming to have a light-bulb moment, Ren halted mid-pace before suddenly turning around.
Smiling, Ren focused on the corruption in his body before allowing it to flow outwards through his hand.
As Ren's hand began to shine a pitch-black and more corruption began acculumate, Ren suddenly waved his his hand.
Following Ren's internal instruction, the corrupt surged away from Ren's hand and onto his shoulder.
Slowly covering Ren's entire body, the corrupt worked its way down from Ren's shoulder until finally, the entirety of Ren's body except his head was covered.
Since he had a corrupted mask on his head already, there was no need to protect that portion.
Covered in the pitch-black substance, Ren's body couldn't be seen, making it seem as if Ren were a zombie.
Breathing in and out, Ren calmed himself down for a second before stepping back.
Slowly placing his left forward, Ren broke out into a mad sprint as he rushed towards the hole in the crater.
Then, without any hesitation, Ren jumped down into the underground space, his entire body covered in corruption.
Forcing himself forward, Ren landed on an ice pillar that was opposite Kazuki before rushing forward.
Aiming himself right at the obsidian wall, Ren ignored the ice-blue spearheading right at his body.
Like a bull charging forward, Ren did not stop, trying his best to slip as he jumped from ice pillar to ice pillar.
Reaching the last ice pillar, Ren halted for a second, watching an ice-blue spear whizz right in front of him.
Looking to the right, Ren watched as the ice spear, as if it had a mind of its own, turned around and began heading right at Ren once again.
"Are you a damn guided missle or something!?"
As the spear surged towards him once again, Ren took a moment to manifest two corrupted daggers.
Getting one leg, Ren leaned to the right, barely managing to lose his balance and slip off the icy pillar.
Once again, the spare whizzed right by Ren, narrowly avoiding him; however, the wind generated by the spear's rush pushed Ren back even further off the ice pillar.
With one foot dangling mid-air and the other foot barely on the slippery ice surface of the pillar, Ren smiled.
Throwing his dangling foot forward, Ren propped himself off the ice pillar and jumped forward, heading straight for the obsidian door.
Raising his two corrupted daggers, Ren pointed their tips at the door as he got closer and closer to it with every second.
As Ren's daggers seamlessly sank through the bulky obsidian layer of the door, Ren sighed in relief.
Hanging mid-air while gripping onto his two daggers, which were embedded in the obsidian door, Ren immediately threw himself.
Since his entire body was covered in corruption, Ren didn't feel any pain as his corruption-covered legs rapidly kicked against the obsidian door.
As dents began to appear on the obsidian door as a result of its constant collisions with corruption, Ren suddenly turned around.
This time... there wasn't just a spear rushing toward him.
There was a spear... and a human writing the spear like some sort of horse heading right at him!
