Chapter 288 The Vault's Secret [1]
As Ren's hand made contact with the back wall of the vault, Ren suddenly felt an immense energy surround him.
Feeling the energy enter his body, Ren immediately controlled the pitch-black substance in his body to make a barrier to prevent the unknown substance from moving forward.
Limited to Ren's hand, the unknown substance rapidly swirled around, causing Ren's right hand to start shaking rapidly.
However, as Ren gazed at his trembling hand, he suddenly noticed something.,
"I-it's shining blue?"
Indeed, his entire right hand was shining an ocean blue.
Immediately, Ren sighed before de-manifesting the barrier and allowing the mana to enter his body and flow around.
Within a few seconds, all the mana that Ren had used to sneak into the vault and more was recovered.
Normally, this process of recovering maximum mana would take up to three days, but Ren had just done it in a minute.
Unfortunately, Ren couldn't gain any more mana as his mana capacity stat was already maxed out for his rank.
Taking his hand off the wall, Ren stayed silent for a second before turning to Lily and saying,
"The mana...it's all here. The mana from all those items from earlier...it's over here."
Not showing any surprise at Ren's revelation, Lily simply nodded her head in agreement before saying.
"All the mana from all the objects on the shelves in this room are here."
Confused, Ren shook his head, glancing around at the countless shelves in the room.

There were at least twenty items on each shelve in the room, and there were around twenty-five shelves in the room.
Unable to fathom the amount of mana gathered here, Ren shook his head before cautiously asking.
"But what would need so much mana."
Smiling upon hearing Ren ask the question she had wanted to answer from the very start, Lily eagerly replied.
"A seal. All this mana is required for one single seal."
Tilting his head to the right, Ren confusedly repeated.
"A Seal...?"
Pointing at the wall, Lily hesitated before saying.
"Did you just turn your ears off when I speak? I already told you that this entire room is a prison cell, didn't I?"
Nodding his head, Ren answered.
"Yeah, basically."
Ignoring Ren's jab, Lily put her hand down before stepping back from the wall, which Ren now knew was actually a magic seal.
Pointing at the plugged-up gap that led to the outside of the vault, Lily sighed before asking.
"Is that enough for you? There's nothing here worth of value that you can take."
Staying by the wall and carefully examining it, Ren replied.
"You do know what I'm going to ask you, right?"
"What my favorite color is?"
"..."
"..."
Regaining her composure, Lily stood side-by-side with Ren before looking at the wall and saying.
"A mythical beast. That's all I know."
"..."
Intrigued, Ren continued studying the wall while also placing one of his hands in his hoodie where his cat was sleeping.
Maybe he could finally figure out the true identity of his time-traveling cat!?
Was it a mythical beast as well?
Mythical beasts, or S-rank creatures, hadn't been spotted for over a hundred years now, although their impacts had been visible.
Over half of the water ecosystem had been wiped out during the fight between the two kings of the sea, Leviathan and Kraken.
The effect of that fight, despite having happened hundreds of years ago, on the sea could still be seen today as the ocean was vastly underpopulated by fish and other water animals.
"You're probably thinking that something this important should have been mentioned in the book, aren't you?"
Indeed, you don't just come across a mythical beast, especially when one hasn't been spotted in hundreds of years.
Even if this was THE principal's vault, a mythical beast still far surpassed Ren's expectations.
Not just because of the pure rarity of the beast but also because of the safety concerns that would be caused.
This Mythical Beast could wipe out the entire capital city and the academy within a single minute if it wanted to.
And the principal, or for that matter anyone else in the world currently, couldn't even stop it.
In history, only one mythical beast had been slain, and not by a human, but by another mystical beast.
That was what separated the brawl between the fight of the giant serpent, Leviathan, and the purple squid, Kraken, from others in history.
For there to be a mystical beast in this vault, that would have to have meant that someone in this world had managed to defeat it.
Not only that, but the person had also managed to, instead of killing it and being the first human to slay a beast, lock it up in a cell.
Looking around at the countless shelves filled with items, Ren just couldn't believe that this seal would be strong enough to contain mythical beats.
Seemingly reading Ren's thoughts, Lily said.
"Based on what I've learned, it's been severely weakened... however, it seems it cannot be killed by anyone yet."
Nodding his head, Ren sighed at the failure of his mission before turning back.
Although he didn't completely believe what Lily was telling him, the risks were far too high.
If Lily was telling the truth and Ren broke the seal to look for magical artifacts, the entire world, alongside him, would be exposed to a mystical beast.
Walking away was the only option here.
Seeing this, a smile appeared on Lily's face as she followed Ren towards the gap in the wall.
Stopping for a moment, Ren decided to throw a question.
"Just curious, how does one come across this knowledge?"
Lily's familiar connections and noble background couldn't entirely explain how she knew about this vault.
She had known every single detail about the vault before even entering, from the tools being used for a magical seal to the sealing of the mystical beast.
If people knew that there was a mystical beast sealed below the academy and still alive, chaos would ensue.
