Chapter 18: 18: Meeting Su Wan Again
Chapter Eighteen
As the attacker moved suddenly, and from behind in a stealthy assault, even Qin You, whose martial skills were quite formidable, failed to react in time.
Seeing that the assailant was wielding a dagger ready to stab into Qin You's body from behind,
Long Xiaoshan hurriedly tackled her to the ground.
He pressed her down hard, and for a moment, he was enveloped in her soft and warm embrace.
Qin You grimaced in pain, her face turning deathly pale, as though Long Xiaoshan had hurt her somehow, leaving her barely able to speak.
The assailant was clearly professional, and not hitting his mark on the first try, he quickly lunged for another stab. Now Qin You was lying on her back, seeing the knife descending towards her, she swiftly lifted her leg and kicked, knocking the dagger from the attacker's hand.
By this time, the other policemen had reacted and rushed over.
Seeing the attack had failed, the perpetrator quickly ran outside, and the policemen hurriedly gave chase. After Long Xiaoshan got up, Qin You was still lying on the ground, clutching her chest with a pallor on her face.
"What's wrong with you?" Long Xiaoshan asked, noticing her odd expression.
He had only tackled her and couldn't have possibly injured her that badly.
"It's nothing," Qin You bit her teeth and struggled to get up from the ground. When Long Xiaoshan reached out to help her, she slapped his hand away and mumbled, "Don't touch me."
Long Xiaoshan felt rather annoyed, thinking if he hadn't tackled her just now, she would have been either dead or severely injured.
A while later, the policemen who had chased the attacker returned, but their expressions were dejected as they said, "Captain, we lost him."
Qin You's face was cold as she replied, "I know. That person is probably a professional killer and might have specifically targeted me."
"Let's go. Send people to the station now, and leave a few here to wait for the ambulance to take those upstairs to the hospital."
Having said that, Qin You walked out with a pallid face.
The other policemen escorted out the people who were kneeling on the ground, including Long Xiaoshan and his sister Long Xiaoling.

Sitting in the police car, Long Xiaoshan was somewhat surprised to find silver specks floating before his eyes, like fireflies. He quickly looked at the others, but no one else seemed to react.
Long Xiaoshan asked his sister, "Little Ling, do you see anything?"
"See what, brother?" Long Xiaoling looked at him confused.
Only then did Long Xiaoshan confirm that he was the only one who could see those specks, which continuously floated toward him and settled between his eyebrows.
Long Xiaoshan used his special ability of clairvoyance.
He saw that all those specks fell into the Virtuous Jade Spiritual Purification Bottle between his brows, the bottle emitting a faint halo.
Unsure why the bottle was undergoing such a change, Long Xiaoshan couldn't take it out to examine at that moment.
At the police station, two policemen were taking a statement from Long Xiaoshan and Long Xiaoling.
In another office, Qin You sat in her own office, unbuttoning her shirt and reaching inside to rub her chest. It was fortunate that no one saw this scene, or it would surely have caused a nosebleed.
However, Qin You's expression was not one of enjoyment, but rather she was grimacing as if in extreme pain.
A little while later,
There was a knock on the door, and a voice from outside said, "Captain Qin."
Qin You hurriedly withdrew her hand and straightened her clothes, her pained expression turning back to her usual cold demeanor, as she said, "Come in."
A policeman walked in and reported, "Captain Qin, we've checked Long Xiaoshan's household registration. He and Long Xiaoling are indeed siblings and residents of Lotus Township, but..."
"But what?" Qin You said impatiently, her chest pain severe, "Speak up."
"Long Xiaoshan was a student at Shuimu University. He was convicted of rape and has just been released from prison," the policeman revealed.
"Shuimu University, a rapist!"
Qin You was somewhat shocked. Shuimu University was considered the top university in Huaxia, where those who were admitted were truly the best of the best, the pillars of the nation. To say they were one in ten thousand was no exaggeration. In a small county like Niu Y County, it was rare for even one student to be admitted to Shuimu University in several years.
The fact that Long Xiaoshan could be admitted to Shuimu University was astonishing enough, but even more preposterous was that such a prominent student, with a limitless future, would commit a crime like rape.
"Captain Qin, what should we do? That guy was pretty ruthless. The hospital says there are at least a dozen with minor injuries, and one with severe injuries, a broken lumbar spine that might lead to paralysis. What's more troublesome is what he did to Ma Liu and Hao Yunpeng," the policeman said.
Remembering the scene of Niu Y County's prominent young Ma Liu and Hao Yunpeng biting each other, the policeman felt a wave of nausea.
After a moment of silence, Qin You waved her hand and ordered, "Let them go."
"Captain Qin, are you really letting them go?" the police officer asked.
"Let them go," Captain Qin replied.
Although Captain Qin held disdain for Long Xiaoshan, a talented student from Shuimu University who had fallen so low as to be accused of rape, after what had been said at the Grand Tycoon Hotel to protect him, and considering that Long Xiaoshan committed the assault to save his sister, Captain Qin quickly decided.
For Qin You, who detested evil, the ones who got hurt were all scum.
So she made her decision swiftly.
The police officer left, feeling somewhat helpless, thinking to himself that ever since that incident, Captain Qin had become far too aggressive in her actions, even to the point of being extreme. This wasn't good for a career in officialdom; moreover, with the Grand Tycoon Hotel's complex backing, Captain Qin's sudden strike at the hotel could stir up who knows what kind of storm.
When they stepped out of the police station, the sky was already pitch black.
The streetlights were just beginning to illuminate.
Long Xiaoshan and his sister, Long Xiaoling, stood at the street corner, watching the stream of traffic. In Longyang Village at this hour, except for the occasional bark of a dog, there would already be no sound, while in the county town, it was a bustling time.
"Brother, what should we do? It looks like we can't get back," Long Xiaoling said.
Long Xiaoshan was also feeling quite depressed. They'd gone out for the day and not only failed to find any jobs but ended up in a police station.
Though they were safely released without incident.
But now it was already past eight o'clock in the evening. There were no buses back to Lotus Township, and chartering a ride was even more impossible. He and little Ling had only brought enough money for the round-trip fare, and they had even brought their meals from home, corn cakes.
Walking back was clearly unrealistic. While he himself might manage, Long Xiaoling had been frightened today and was frail. She definitely couldn't endure the dozens of miles.
"If it really comes down to it, we'll have to make do in a park for the night, and then head home in the morning. Little Ling, I'm sorry for the hardship," he said. A single coin can defeat a hero, and despite his former glory, even in prison, he, Long Xiaoshan, was now unable to afford a room for his sister for a single night.
Long Xiaoshan felt very ashamed.
"Brother, as long as I'm with you, I'm not afraid of any hardship," Long Xiaoling said as she hugged Long Xiaoshan's arm, not minding the idea of spending the night in a park.
Long Xiaoshan rubbed Long Xiaoling's head. For his sister, he had decided to swallow his pride.
He didn't want her to nearly sell herself for a mere thirty thousand yuan ever again.
That was something he would never allow!
He would call Lao Xu and the others tomorrow.
The two walked for over half an hour before they finally arrived at the county town's Pagoda Mountain Park, famous for its Eight Treasured Elephant Dragon Pagoda, a Qing dynasty structure. It was a popular local spot for recreation and to escape the heat.
However, by the time they got there, it was already nine o'clock. The people in the park were gradually disappearing.
But the row of bars near the park was still bustling with lights twinkling and lively with activity.
Long Xiaoshan and Long Xiaoling sat on a bench in the park. Little Ling was very tired and leaned on Long Xiaoshan, who listened to her soft snores soon after.
Long Xiaoshan, however, wasn't sleepy. With little Ling by his side, he couldn't practice his cultivation, so he used his clairvoyance ability to look at the bottle, wondering about the specks of light from earlier that day. Now, looking at the bottle, it seemed the same as before, and he couldn't see inside it.
"If only I could take it out and have a look," Long Xiaoshan mused, genuinely curious about the bottle.
Just as this thought occurred to him, the bottle actually moved. It flew out from the center of his forehead, and Long Xiaoshan quickly caught it. He looked around nervously, thankful that it was late at night and no one noticed him in the corner of the park.
Holding the small bottle, Long Xiaoshan examined it from every angle and shook it vigorously. It sounded as if there were some liquid sloshing inside, but when he peered into the bottle, it was pitch black and he couldn't see anything.
As Long Xiaoshan hesitated over whether or not to pour something out of the bottle.
"Get lost!" a voice came faintly from somewhere. It was late and quiet all around, but Long Xiaoshan's hearing was quite sharp so he could make it out.
Glancing in the direction of the sound, although it was dim, his vision was good enough to see a white-collar beauty walking from the direction of the bar street. She wore a goose-yellow strapless dress and white high heels, showing off her shapely figure and long, straight, incredibly white legs that were dazzling even in the dark night.
She seemed unsteady on her feet, probably having just left the bar, drunk.
Behind her followed three or four men, grinning and with a sleazy look, clearly local delinquents.
"Beautiful, why leave so soon? Come hang out with us," one of the delinquents with a nose ring reached out and grabbed the beauty's arm.
"What are you doing? Let me go, I'll call the police," the woman screamed, struggling fiercely.
Another delinquent quickly covered her mouth.
The group of ruffians seemed experienced in such acts as they coordinated to drag her into a nearby alleyway.
Intoxicated and already restrained by several men, the white-collar beauty was unable to break free, her eyes filled with despair.
"Why is it her?" Long Xiaoshan recognized the white-collar beauty as Su Wan, the HR manager from the Lily Hotel he had encountered earlier that day.
