Chapter 35 35. Calm Before The Storm
“Hello brother,”
“What…” His words couldn’t leave his throat.
‘This is my brother?’ Michael thought.
He eyed the boy that was his brother up and down.
He noticed that Sam had the same black hair, which was quite rare in this time and age, as himself and his mother.
He had a pair of scarlet eyes, the kind of which can only be described with the word “demonic”. The kind which will get you addicted to it if you keep looking at them for too long.
He had a deep yet fresh voice, not the kind one would expect a singer to have but still, you couldn’t be bored listening to it all day.
His stance oozed off an aura of superiority. Like he viewed the whole world as something beneath him.
The Academy doesn’t have a uniform except for P.E. so the black-haired boy was wearing casual college clothing. Black tee and blue jeans.
Plain as they were, he was still looking like something out of the world.
“Are you my…brother?” Mustering up all the will he had, Micheal formed the words to frame a question.
“Half-brother, yes,” Sam replied. “But for what you did here today, you should be suspended.”
Just as Michael was about to retort in his defense, Sam turned around and faced the bald professor.
“And you professor Rick, you know very well that duels in the Academy are prohibited unless supervised by an A-rank hero. Now tell me, when did you become an A-rank?”
“I…” Sensing the authoritative tone, although Rick was a professor, he couldn’t help but stutter while forming a reply.
“Sam is right, professor,” walking to Sam’s side, Anthony spoke. “You dangered a student because your barrier wasn’t strong enough.”.
“Shall we take this to principal Helios?” Sam said in an obviously threatening tone.
“Mhmm, we should do just that. Let’s inform Lightbringer about what happened here.” Taking Sam’s cue, Anthony joined in.

“No no no no! I’m sorry, I’m really sorry! I thought my barrier would surely hold against a freshman, I never expected him to have a space-related ability!” Panicked, professor Rick practically started begging.
‘Space-related ability huh?’ Sam’s ears perked up hearing the type of ability his half-brother possessed.
(Interesting!) The voice in his head remarked.
“What should we do Sam?” Anthony glanced sideways at Sam and questioned with a grin.
‘Is this guy enjoying this?! Aren’t you supposed to be a hero!’ Sam thought internally before answering.
“Well since the professor here knows what he did wrong, I think we should accept his apology. Just don’t do it again professor.”
“I won’t! I won’t ever supervise a duel! Thank you for not telling Lightbringer!” Grabbing Sam and Anthony’s hands, professor Rick conveyed his thanks.
“Anyways, I should get going now, young ones. I have a class to teach!” As soon as he said his goodbyes, the bald professor disappeared like the wind.
“Pfft!” Anthony couldn’t help but let out a chain of giggles at that sight.
“If only Drake was here to see this,” Sam commented, making Anthony laugh harder.
“Anyways you all, go back to your classes or explore the campus, whatever you were doing before. The show’s over!” Sam announced dispersing the crowd that was gathered.
Monika looked like she wanted to approach Sam for something, but she could only hesitate before joining the crowd and leaving the scene.
“Umm…” Hearing a voice coming from behind, Sam turned to look at a black-haired boy still standing there.
“Why are you still here? One duel didn’t satisfy you?”
Sam asked, although they were standing at the same height, Michael could clearly feel him being looked down on.
“Uh no… I just… I wanted to talk to you… I’ve waited to meet you all my lif-“
Before Micheal could complete his sentence, Sam’s voice cut him off.
“Come Tony let’s go”
Without waiting for an answer or a reaction, Sam turned out and started walking out to leave the fields.
Anthony, clearly confused, looked at Sam’s fading back once, then eyed Micheal, who was trying his best to say something to his brother before he disappears.
Anthony heaved a sigh before following Sam out of the fields.
“Is it okay?” Anthony questioned as the duo walked towards their class. “To treat him like that I mean? Didn’t you call him brother?”
Sam mentally sighed in annoyance.
In truth, he didn’t want to spend a second alone with Anthony.
But the thing is, Rebekah is moving in with them to the dorm mansion, so Kiara volunteered to help, even though no one asked her.
Sam has long given up trying to figure out what’s been going on in her head. He’s trying to ignore her these days.
Drake and Robin went to take a detour on their way to the Academy.
That just left Sam alone with Anthony. Although the latter was enjoying the company so very much, Sam was not.
While making their way to their first class, they saw two boys running towards the training field while babbling something about a duel.
Thanks to that, the duo arrived at the right time at the scene before something bad could happen.
Although Sam was not so fond of playing hero, he still decided to help since Anthony could’ve handled it alone anyway.
So by deciding to help, he made yet another impression on Anthony.
“Meh, it’s okay,” Sam replied. “Besides, it’s not like I have a big brother role to play.”
“You’re the big one?” Anthony questioned.
(He’s irritating me with his constant questioning!)
“Yes, a year after having me, my mother left my father, you know, him being a villain and all, and had him with her second husband,” Sam replied casually while mentally agreeing to the voice in his head.
“I see, I still don’t understand why your mom didn’t take you with her.” Anthony frowned.
“She tried, but when her husband asked her to choose between me or him, she obviously chose him,” Sam cleared.
“Really? That’s sad” Anthony commented.
(Oh is this guy really giving us his pity?! The only sadness in our life is you and your family!)
“Yeah… Anyways, enough about me, tell me about yourself, Tony!” Said Sam while changing the topic with a curious smile.
“Me? My life is an open book with all those interviews and documentaries,” said Anthony with a dry laugh.
“You don’t like that? All that fame I mean?” Sam asked, stopping his feet and turning around to face the flaxen-haired boy.
“I… Don’t think I earned it, you know? Like it’s all inheritance from my father…” Anthony replied while rubbing the back of his head.
“Ahh, I see. I guess standing up to the expectations people have of you, as you are the son of Starsuper himself, is tough huh?”
“It is, I mean my father doesn’t force me, but still, to know that one day I have to stand in place of him, that’s kinda scary.”
“Wow, the guy who can literally endure the temperature of the sun’s core is finding something scary!” Sam joked.
“Ha ha ha! You are really funny sometimes, you know that?” Anthony remarked while letting out an honest laugh.
“No, but really, it gets scary sometimes. The pressure I mean.”
Sam nodded in reply, “Standing up to the expectations of your ancestors, you won’t believe me when I tell you, but I do know how that feels.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah… Anyways let’s get going for the class before it gets late”
“Yeah! Let’s go!”
Anthony said before the duo started walking for the class again.
What Anthony didn’t notice however was a grin that appeared on Sam’s face for a moment.
His plan was working.
He is getting through Anthony.
Sam knew that sooner or later he will be able to break through Anthony and will unravel the mystery behind the origin of Willburns.
What Sam didn’t know however was the fact that Anthony was thinking about investigating the murder case of Rose.
Anthony, just like every other hero in the Academy city was puzzled by the fact that a woman who can phase through things was killed by the physical damage.
He asked Starsuper for permission to look into the case and Arthur allowed him.
What no one knew back then was that it will a reason for a bloody battle that will soon be commencing.
A battle that will throw the world into something bigger and more chaotic than the Dark Ages.
But that still had some time.
There was a calming peace before the arrival of a deadly storm.
