Winter Swan

Chapter 39:

Chapter 39:

After the gym class ended, the kids went to their respective classes.

But for Silje, she was dragged away by Brigit’s friends to the storage building located behind the gym. When she saw the familiar sports equipment Silje smiled bitterly. This was where Kail’s gang had dragged her here last time.

And just like then, she was being assaulted, but this time, it was Brigit’s posse.

“Why do you think Kail was interested in this Asian monkey?”

“Because he was bored? Haha, this bitch must’ve thought she was so great just because Kail showed a little interest in her.”

The girls laughed and kicked Silje’s stomach.

Silje grabbed her body in pain and bit her lips not to cry out. Brigit glared at her with her cold violet eyes and grabbed Silje’s hair.

“Bitch! I can’t stand you. How dare you get close to Kail?”

Brigit slapped her face, making Silje’s eyes blur in pain. Brigit continued, “I told Kail to come here. I am furious! I am going to ask him if the rumor is really true. Kids are saying that you and Kail are together, and I will get the truth out of him, got it?”

Silje’s cheek burned. She gritted her teeth in pain and anger. Even her eyes hurt.

One downside of being alone was encountering situations like this. She couldn’t expect anyone to help her. Silje glared back at the group of girls who were surrounding her.

They were all cowards. They knew they wouldn’t be able to win against her one on one, and that was why they were ganging up on her like this.

Kail...

So was he really coming here now?

...No... She didn’t want him here...

She just didn’t. Silje didn’t want Kail to see her like this getting beat up so pathetically.

Silje chewed her lips at her stupid thoughts. The truth was, Kail’s own gang beat her up in the past too, so it wasn’t like this was the first time Kail would see her in such an embarrassing state.

So why did she care?

She hated this situation. If he came here now, he might see a piece of the truth she had been trying her best to hide.

She didn’t want to even think about it.

Shaking her head, she tried to forget about it. The stinging on her cheek was getting worse, and she reminded herself to put some antibacterial ointment on it when she got back home.

Or perhaps she needed to ice it. If that didn’t work, should she go to the clinic? Unfortunately, she couldn’t burden her adoptive parents with the cost, so she thought she should just get some medication from the pharmacy and take care of it herself.

While Silje was keeping her mind busy with mundane thoughts, a cold voice suddenly filled the room.

“What do you think you’re doing?”

It was a low controlled voice.

Brigit’s expression changed immediately. Recognizing the voice, Brigit quickly dropped her hand and stepped back. The other girls also flinched as he walked into the room.

Kail.

Silje turned around to look at him silently. He was like a mirage to her as he walked toward them slowly.

Snow-white jumper and black jeans. He was frowning unhappily at them.

It was clear that he was annoyed at being asked to come here.

“...”

He seemed unusually quiet and dark today. Dangerous eyes, sharp nose, and his firmly closed lips gave off a treacherous aura.

Looking at him like this, Silje suddenly wondered.

Could it be...? Was he this unhappy because of her?

He looked ominous, like the calm before the storm. It couldn’t be because of her. Silje tried to convince herself of it until she saw that Kail’s hand was bandaged. It made her flinch. Her heart fell.

Kail still had a blank face. Only his eyes told of his misery.

“Kail!”

Brigit greeted him with excitement. Kail turned to her sharply and glared. He looked truly angry at being bothered and Brigit flinched when she saw his face.

Kail slowly looked around the room, and finally landed his eyes on Silje on the floor. Kail asked coldly, “Brigit, did you do this?”

“This Asian bitch has been going around all high and mighty so I thought I should teach her a lesson. Why? Shouldn’t I have done it?”

Brigit seemed scared, but she refused to back down.

“Kail, are you seriously interested in this girl? Why? All the kids at school are talking about you and her. Why do you hang out with her? How can you embarrass me in front of everyone?”

Brigit pleaded with him with tears in her eyes, but Kail looked down at her with an icy, ugly smile.

“Why should I care about you, Brigit? Don’t you get it? You don’t matter to me.”

“Kail!”

He didn’t react to Brigit’s emotional outburst. Instead, he said to her quietly, “Get lost, Brigit. I don’t want to see your face.”

Even Silje was shocked by his cruel words.

Brigit’s friends looked at her nervously. She was the school queen, and now she was terribly embarrassed in front of her friends. The cruel king had damaged her pride.

“Kail, how dare you do this to me! How dare you...”

Brigit trembled. When Kail didn’t respond, she became hysterical and attacked him.

Kail looked at her as if he was bored and raised his hand. Before she could slap him, he moved faster and he smacked her lips.

“Gyyyaaa!”

Brigit screamed in pain.

Her lips were bleeding profusely. With her hair a mess, Brigit looked like a madwoman and no longer the elegant queen.

Kail still looked annoyed as he announced coldly, “Everyone get lost now!”

Silence.

He was like a venomous snake poisoning the entire room. Brigit and her friends looked scared and confused as they watched him.

Suddenly, Kail turned to Silje and asked angrily, “And why are YOU here?”

Silje couldn’t believe what she was hearing. Brigit’s girls were also shocked.

Why was she here? Was he mocking her for the fact that she was dragged in here to be beaten? He definitely meant something by it, and Silje looked at him sharply.

His eyes narrowed and after only a few seconds, he seemed to become even angrier. He turned around and started to walk away.

Brigit couldn’t seem to let go. When she saw him about to leave, she screamed through her bleeding lips.

“How can you embarrass me like this because of this stupid bitch? Are you listening to me? Answer me, Kail! Kail!”

Her shriek was deafening, but Kail continued to ignore her and walked towards the door. He didn’t look back and Brigit cried out his name over and over again.

A few of her friends hesitantly tried to stop Kail to help Brigit, but when Kail raised his eyebrow, they stopped in their tracks. His furious eyes looked like those of a predator and they were no match for him.

When they backed away, Kail’s lips twisted into an ugly smirk.

He continued to walk towards the door, and Silje considered what she should do. The first thing she knew she had to do was leave this place as well, so she followed him.

Suddenly, Kail looked back at her with a glare. He spat, “So, are you happy now that things turned out like this?”

Silje stopped and stared. When she didn’t reply, Kail continued to push on with obvious rage.

“Is this really what you want?”
