Chapter 76: Little Bit
Seeing that the MCOMs were working, the others also took their own out. Opening the map, they found their location. There was a very big red name on it, as well as various warnings of danger.
"The Magic Decay Valley..." Claus felt a chill on his back when he read the name.
Magic Energy could be used in many forms. For Maguses and Familiars, you had natural Magic Energy with various levels for their training. For big vehicles like aircraft, ships, etc, everyone would use Magic Fusion Fuel Rods, which are great for big bursts of power but terrible and potentially harmful for any Magus or Familiar to use in their leveling process.
Then, you had what people considered waste: Magic Energy used in various types of processes that became too contaminated and lost all their power for further use. If that was all, it wouldn't be a problem, though. The issue was that this kind of magic energy waste was also a poison.
Even in an advanced society like the one on this planet, there was only so much that could be done to deal with this kind of waste. Decayed Magic Energy was a fitting name, as any living thing that relied on Magic Energy would soon or later wither and die if in contact with this type of energy. Those who survived would often mutate and turn dangerous themselves.
Plants, humans, magic beasts, it mattered not.
One must not misunderstand. It was not the same as the impurities that Linfel removed from both the Magic Stones and the Magic Energy in the surroundings. Even though impure, the Magic Energy that Linfel got rid of could still be used to power devices, for example. It still had its powering properties and wouldn't really kill anything.
For example, Linfel could totally use the impure Magic Energy to power his MCOM... and he did exactly that all the time.
Now, their group arrived in the Magic Decay Valley, a place reserved for dumping this kind of magic energy waste. This is a place that Heffal, Volztain, and Xanzion agreed to be the best location to let go of this Magic Energy. It was at the intersection of all three countries' borders. It was the one place no one would even think about using to launch an attack.
The chances of having more losses than gains were definitely many times higher.

"Look!" Julius pointed at the entrance in the distance, scared.
There, Linfel and the others saw some kind of gray and slightly purple mist in the air, slightly above the ground.
*Cough, cough...*
Milia couldn't help but cough a little. They were already quite close to it, and even though not dangerous yet, her throat was already complaining. The others didn't take long to begin to feel the side effects either. Even the Familiars would be at risk. They don't breathe, but they do absorb the surrounding Magic Energy to sustain themselves, so it wasn't much different.
"I vote to go back and try to find another place to go," Julius quickly gave up going out of that tunnel.
However, Vera immediately cut him off. "Terrible idea. We seemed to be quite deep into the valley, which stretches for over a hundred kilometers. Still, I didn't expect we had moved so far from the point where we first entered the tunnels."
Linfel agreed. "Indeed. We walked most of the way, so even though we kept moving for almost ten hours, I thought we would still be somewhere around 100 or so kilometers from the place we first went underground. Unfortunately, it seems like our sense of direction didn't work very well down there. We have definitely gone much further."
Alvin approached Linfel and asked through a magic energy-guided whisper. 'Can you deal with that like you do with the impurities of Magic Energy?'
Linfel narrowed his ethereal eyes. He only heard about this Magic Energy back in the Vaxwell Research Facility. Their work there obviously generated quite some of this Decayed Magic Energy. Yet, he never had to go and deal with this Decayed Magic Energy himself. There were others paid for this kind of job. 'I don't know.
I would need to try.'
"Hey, don't we have a signal in our MCOMs? Let's just stay far away from the entrance and call for help. Sure the army will send someone to rescue us here," Falagita suggested.
Unfortunately, Vera instantly rejected the idea. "Out of the question. We are too close to the border between the three countries. Chances are that Xanzion would be the first one to catch our signal once we send it out. Besides, do you really think the army has the time to dispatch a rescue team in the middle of this war?"
Falagita sighed. "No, they don't. If I were the one in charge, I wouldn't send anyone either."
Vera nodded. "It's good that you understand."
Nori was also looking in the same direction when he noticed something. "What are those purple rocks there?"
"Purple Rocks?" They all turned their attention to the left side of the cave, not too far away from where they were. They were only half to the exit. The rocks were completely different from the rest of the cave, which made them quite conspicuous.
"Fuck!" Claus began to take a few steps back. "They aren't rocks, they are eggs!"
One thing was certain about places with Decayed Magic Energy. Anything that could survive inside such a place was definitely not easy to deal with.
"Ahem... I wouldn't go back into the cave if I were you," Linfel spoke to Claus.
"What? Do you want to stay here and wait for Mama and Papa to come back? I've never heard about any Magic Beast that isn't at least Level Three in strength living in these places," Claus warned Linfel and finally turned around. The choice was now obvious. It was better to go deeper into the caves again and look for another exit. They might be able to avoid the Decayed Magic Energy as well.
However, Claus's steps froze when he heard Linfel's next words. "Well, I highly doubt our big friend over there will let you go back underground to look for other exits."
Those words instantly made everyone turn around. Right after, they saw a pair of vertical slit eyes approaching silently. Even with little light, its giant purple body extended further down the tunnel, making it impossible to see the end.
Claus's legs began to walk back to the exit slowly. "Now that I think about it, I believe a little bit of Decayed Magic Energy isn't that bad."
Surprisingly, or perhaps not, everyone seemed to be of the same mind at that moment.
