Yugioh Card Summoner

CH.49 Heading to Town with Alice

CH.49 Heading to Town with Alice

“You seem happy.” Christina commented when I walked into the dining room. Well, after pulls like that, who wouldn’t be?

“Yeah, I got some good cards from my daily packs.” I answered.

“Some strong monster?” Alice asked.

“No, well I did, but that’s not why I’m so happy. It’s more of a utility card.” I told them.

“Your cards can do so many mysterious things.” Christina commented.

“Well, that’s true.” I answered.

As Brandon walked into the room he noticed that we were waiting for him and he said to begin breakfast. I’m, of course, still keeping up my false prayer. Is it even a false prayer if I mean it? Even if I’m not exactly a believer. How do you classify a believer in the first place?

“Brian, did you have plans for today?” Christina asked me after breakfast.

“Yes, I was going to head to the adventurer’s guild and register.” I told her.

“Oh. Then I’ll write you a letter so you can register at a higher rank.” Christina said.

“You can do that?” I asked.

“Yes. It’s a guarantee of skill written by a noble. They should give you a D-rank with it.” She told me. “It’s useless to have someone of your caliber being an F-rank after all. And I think that Zayaan would make you D-rank anyway. He knows of your skill better than I do.”

“Can the guild master do something like that?”

“Guild masters are responsible for all rank ups, up to C-rank. After that they need to go through a process to get rank approved by the organization.” Christina informed me. “Please wait a while, I’ll go write the letter now.”

“Sure.” I told her. “I’ll be waiting in the front garden, if that is fine.”

“That’s fine.” She told me. “I’ll bring it over once I’m done.”

“Brian.” I heard someone call out to me. “What are you doing here?” Alice asked me.

“Oh, hi Alice. I’m waiting on a letter from your mother before heading to the adventurer’s guild.” I answered.

“Letter? Why would she give you something like that? Henry, or someone else, could deliver it.”

“It’s for me. A recommendation letter. It should allow me to register at a higher rank.” I told Alice.

“Are you not registered with the guild?” She asked.

“Don’t you remember. I told you I lived with grandpa in the woods. I never really went into town, so I’ve never registered with the guild.” I answered her.

“Oh,” Alice seemed to remember our conversation from two days ago. “Then, could I come with you?”

“I don’t mind, but don’t you have magic lessons in the morning?” I asked her.

“I canceled them.” She told me. She can do that? “I told my teacher I was going to practice with Mana today. But if you are heading into town, I want to come with you.”

“That’s fine.” I answered. “I could also leave Mana with you here if you prefer that.”

“No!” She cried out. “You are the one who told me I should no longer hide, so I’m coming.”

“Good answer.” I responded. “But you might want to change to different shoes. I don’t think those are going to be that comfortable out on the town’s streets.”

Alice was just wearing simple shoes that you would normally wear only inside or on concrete floors. While the main street has cobblestone most of the side streets are just dirt.

“I'll switch then.” She answered and was about to run off.

“You might want to dress differently as well.” I called out to her. “The outfit you wore to the dungeon might be the best.”

While the dress she was wearing wasn’t terrible, it wasn’t great either. She had on nice set of pants and a decent jacket when we went to the dungeon, so that would be a lot better.

“Sure!” She called out before disappearing into the manor.

“Brian, did you wait for long?” Christina asked as she brought over the letter for me.

“Not really.” I answered. “Do you mind if I take Alice with me?”

“Are you asking for permission or informing me that you are going to do it?” She asked.

“Yes.”

“That’s not an answer.”

“Yes, I’m asking for permission. And yes, I’ll do it anyway even if you don’t give it.” I told her.

“Just make sure she stays safe.” Christina answered.

“I’ll make sure no one can harass her. And she won’t get any wounds. I’m not planning on taking her outside of town. Just a casual walk around town is what I’m aiming for. And visiting the guild.” I promised her.

“Thank you, Brian. Alice has never really had a casual scroll in town. Her father would always use some excuse to prevent them. I try to have her grow up like a normal girl, but I can only threaten him with my father’s power for so long. I had to save it so I could use it on the more important things.” Christina told me.

“More important being?”

“Making sure Alice doesn’t have to practice magic for 12 hours a day.”

“Holy, what the fuck is Brandon smoking?” I let out. “Actually, don’t answer. I know it myself. He is smoking that prophecy weed.”

“I suppose he is.” Christina answered.

“Brian!” Alice came outside and called out to me. “Are you ready to go?” After asking that, she noticed her mother. “You… are you going to stop me?” She asked carefully.

“No.” With the one word answer you could see color returning to Alice’s face. Christina made her way over to her daughter and hugged her. “Just please be careful.”

“I. I will.” Alice promised. “And Brian will take care of me.”

“I’ll want to hear all about it in the evening.” Christina told her daughter. “You better commit everything to memory.”

“I will.” Alice answered excitedly.

“Are you ready to go Alice?” I asked her.

“Yes,” She answered. “I changed my clothes and everything.”

That’s true. She was wearing what I think are the same pants and shoes she wore to the dungeon, and the hoodie I gave her. Now we are the hoodie gang. Hopefully some no good noble won’t walk up to us and try to steal them. Wait, Alice’s family is the only noble family in town, right? So it would have to be a no good merchant. Bakula company, please don’t try anything. I have a Dark Magician ready to strike you down. And a Red-Eyes. Actually, I made a few extra sleeves and haven't used them yet, right? I should probably use one on Red-Eyes, so if I feel like I want to summon him, I can.

(Laura.)

(Already done, Master.)

(You overachiever. I love you.)

(Thank you, Master.)

I guess I could also do the spare Dark Magician, but for now let’s not. I can just do it, or have Laura do it, while I have the first one summoned.

“Good.” I answered Alice. “Then let’s head out.”
