Chapter 23

C23 – First Time to Hunt

The sounds of footsteps dwindled in the distance, soon replaced by a series of resigned sighs.

“Third Miss, the hunters have departed. What’s our next move?” The gruff voice of the man echoed once more.

A brief silence hung in the air before a crystalline, melodious female voice responded, “If fear grips you, feel free to depart with them now.”

Her voice held the enchantment of a fairy’s speech, stirring excitement and an irresistible urge in the listener.

For Lee Tian, this was particularly true.

He recognized the voice as belonging to the ethereal beauty known as Zhou Yuyan, and he was eager to scramble out of the pit for another glimpse of her stunning visage.

As Zhou Yuyan’s voice trailed off, the man’s rough tone resurfaced, “Third Miss, you underestimate me. Moreover, the master has entrusted me with your constant protection. I am duty-bound to ensure your safety!”

“You needn’t be glued to my side. Just keep a watchful eye from a distance,” Zhou Yuyan instructed.

Her tone was icy, maintaining a deliberate distance from all things and people, which only served to underscore her unique presence.

Zhang Shan’s anxiety spiked upon hearing her words, and he pleaded, “Third Miss, the Swordtooth Tigers are formidable adversaries. Please, allow me to stay by your side!”

“There’s no need! If I require assistance on my first hunt, wouldn’t that set a precedent for reliance on others?” Zhou Yuyan retorted with a light huff. “When the time comes for the Taixuan Sect’s Winter Hunt Trial, will you be able to stay by my side then?”

At a loss for words, Zhang Shan conceded, “Then I’ll keep watch from nearby. Should danger befall you, I’ll intervene.”

“Very well,” Zhou Yuyan acquiesced softly, followed by the crisp sound of a sword being drawn from its sheath.

The resonating hum of the blade was lyrical, echoing through the open fields like a flute serenading the wilderness without end.

Meanwhile, Lee Tian had climbed out of the pit and caught sight of Zhou Yuyan in her flowing green robe, her black hair billowing, sword in hand, the very picture of valor.

He was momentarily transfixed.

Zhou Yuyan’s skin was porcelain-smooth, her figure willowy, and she appeared to be in her late teens.

To Lee Tian, she was the epitome of beauty, surpassing any girl he had ever laid eyes on.

The popular actresses he had admired on TV in his past life paled in comparison to Zhou Yuyan, not even coming close to a tenth of her allure.

“I want to make her my girlfriend!” he firmly resolved within himself.

Standing guard behind Zhou Yuyan was the rugged figure of Zhang Shan.

Dressed as if he had stepped out of ancient times, Zhang Shan’s long hair was neatly coiled atop his head, his attire sharp and tidy. A black-sheathed long saber hung at his waist. His complexion was a bit dark, his eyes piercing like those of a hawk, vigilantly monitoring Zhou Yuyan’s every move.

His presence was as formidable as the unsheathed saber at his side, poised for action.

With her sword in hand, Zhou Yuyan advanced towards the Swordtooth Tigers, her expression a mix of nervousness and irrepressible excitement.

It was her inaugural hunt, her first real battle with a sword.

After three years of training in swordsmanship, she was eager to test the might of her skills. Little did she expect her first combat would be against a pack of Swordtooth Tigers!

Watching her wield her sword, Lee Tian was struck by a term that had haunted him for days: Human Cultivator.

In awe, he whispered to himself, “Could she be the legendary cultivator?”

The Swordtooth Tiger, while not a Spirit Beast, was a dominant force among Mortal Beasts, incredibly powerful.

Zhang Shan’s concern for Zhou Yuyan was a testament to the creature’s strength.

And Lee Tian shared that concern.

He was deeply worried that she might carelessly fall prey to those fearsome Swordtooth Tigers.
