Chapter 17
C17 – Apologize
Ye Lin was frantically searching her memory when suddenly, a lightbulb went off in her head.
She began to recite the content intermittently, but as she neared the last few words, she came to a halt.
Try as she might, she just couldn’t recall those final few words.
Qi Ning, after observing her for a few minutes, began to recite the passage himself.
He flawlessly recited the entire page without a single pause.
The entire class watched Qi Ning in amazement.
None of them had managed to memorize the page’s content.
“Do you concede?” Qi Ning inquired of Ye Lin.
Ye Lin gave Qi Ning a frosty stare, biting her lip, at a loss for words.
“You’re being too harsh! Do you really expect a girl to kneel and apologize to you?”
“Qi Ning, you’re a man. Men are supposed to be courteous to women! Haven’t you heard?”
“What? You really want to start a revolt?”

Qi Ning realized just how despicable these people were.
With a cool gaze, he retorted, “What’s the matter? Are you volunteering to kneel and apologize on her behalf?”
“Cut her some slack,” Wen Shangwei muttered to Qi Ning.
Qi Ning glanced at Wen Shangwei and responded softly, “Do you think if I let her off now, I’ll have peace in the future?”
“Why should I let her off then?”
Qi Ning spoke softly, but Class 6 was so quiet that his words seemed intended for the whole room rather than just Wen Shangwei.
Ye Lin, standing at a distance, looked visibly shaken.
She had never expected the person she once scorned as worthless to show such improvement.
“Did you do this on purpose?” Ye Lin challenged Qi Ning.
He regarded her calmly, “You truly don’t recognize your own flaws.”
“Why would I do it on purpose? Moreover, I simply discovered that I possess this skill.”
The classroom descended into silence once more.
A few boys who either fancied or wanted to woo Ye Lin were passing notes under the radar.
“Follow him to the restroom after class; we need to teach him a lesson!”
“I’m really angry, you know.”
“Today, I’m definitely going to give him a thrashing!”
The emergence of Qi Ning led to the formation of a fleeting and modest alliance.
“You’d better leave some room for yourself!” Ye Lin approached Qi Ning and said.
Her words made it clear to everyone that Ye Lin was conceding. For some, this was considered a rather diplomatic form of apology.
Qi Ning, however, remained unimpressed: “I don’t want to get a bad reputation for bullying girls, but I’m not going to let this slide easily.”
“There’s no need to kneel. But surely a bow and an apology wouldn’t be too much to ask?”
Qi Ning realized that being overly confrontational could potentially alienate the entire class.
He wasn’t intimidated by the challenges from the students in Class 6; it was their parents he was wary of.
Sigu No. 1 Middle School was an extraordinary institution. It gathered nearly all the children of the affluent from Sigu City.
If he pushed too hard, Qi Ning feared the repercussions might extend to his own parents.
